The description below gives an estimate of the percentages of workload by area, however it will not be static.

Responsibilities:

Civic & Voter Engagement (50%)

  • Provide leadership for all SFR field campaigns, including volunteer and paid programs for phone banks, canvasses, and mobilizations
  • Design and implement civic engagement field programs in coordination with statewide coalitions, labor partners, or local partners
  • Supervise a Field Organizer and oversee hiring, supervision, and training of temporary election employees or campaign staff
  • Analyze data and field program results to track progress in voter contact universes, and evaluate effectiveness of scripts and field program methodology
  • Leverage innovative voter contact tools and integrate them into the field plan
  • Develop and manage campaign & program budgets
  • This may include candidate and ballot measure work related to SF Rising Action Fund, the sister 501c4 organization

Policy Advocacy & Organizing (30%)

  • Policy Research: Work with coalition, policy experts, and government partners to develop model policies and SFR governing agenda/policy platform / campaigns
  • Develop relationships with key government staff and electedsand create structures for institutionalizing these relationships, including organizing regular meetings between electeds and the Alliance
  • Track elected officials policy / issue agendas, and what policies are actually moving, and summarize to be able to share with the alliance. Track Board of Supervisors meeting agendas and timeframes for policy and budget priorities and brief Directors, staff, and Alliance partners accordingly.
  • Community education - Support political education & engagement of our affiliates, members, and broader SF community engagement. Develop presentations or educational materials about policy campaigns for staff, leaders, and members as needed
  • Integrate policy, budget, and governing priorities into SFR coalition partners communications strategies, e.g., community/political education opportunities and neighborhood activation
  • Monitor statewide policy efforts related to higher education, college affordability, and debt.

Base Building (10%)

  • Co-lead base-building efforts to grow and engage a multiracial student and adult membership, in alignment with SFRs strategic goals.
  • Help shape and implement organizing campaigns, training programs, and civic engagement strategies that strengthen member leadership.
  • Represent SFR in key coalition spaces to build alignment and advance collective power in civic and student organizing efforts.

Organizational Leadership (10%)

  • As a member of the Directors Team, help set the strategic direction for the organization
  • Support organization-wide activities as needed such as fundraising, events, etc.
  • Cultivate relationships with labor, community, and political allies
  • Support funder cultivation, proposal writing, and fundraising for the organization
  • Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor

Qualifications

  • Commitment to racial, gender, economic and environmental justice, grassroots organizing, and building social movements
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years supervision and management experience
  • Experience facilitating group spaces and leadership development
  • Experience leading electoral field campaigns and issue campaigns
  • Grassroots organizing or base building experience highly desired

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Director of Civic Engagement to lead initiatives that enhance the YMCA's role in community empowerment through civic participation. The role involves developing partnerships, organizing events across branches, and managing voter registration and education programs. Key Responsibilities:

    The right to vote is fundamental — it is the right that protects and expands all other rights. The Democratic Party is committed to expanding voting access and ensuring that every eligible voter can cast a ballot that counts. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is aggressively committed to these goals and seeks a Civic Engagement and Voter Protection (CEVP) Director to develop and execute a national civic engagement and voter protection strategy. This position is at the nexus of legal, political, organizing, data, and technology and requires a candidate proficient in all areas.

    The CEVP Director is an energetic and experienced election law professional who will work collaboratively with other DNC departments, DNC committees, and external partners to advance priorities. The CEVP Director will work closely with the DNC legal team on matters related to voting rights litigation; the Political, Coalitions, Organizing, and Coordinated Campaign Teams to develop and execute programmatic and campaign strategies and goals; and the DNC Data and Technology Team to develop metrics, data, and tools for success.

    The ideal candidate is a creative, versatile, and action-oriented problem solver with excellent attention to detail and a track record of managing staff, projects, and time to produce results.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a national resource on voting rights as well as triage and troubleshoot voting related issues across the country;


    Develop and implement a national voter protection strategy, which will include:

    • building a team tasked with maintaining existing programs and developing new programs to expand voting access;
    • working with state parties to develop and build voter protection programs;
    • collaborating with legal teams on state and federal voting rights litigation;
    • developing metrics and goals for voter protection programs;
    • utilizing data to develop best practices


    Utilize organizing techniques to accomplish voter protection goals, which will include:

    • recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers and staff;
    • developing voter education programs and resources
    • Manage the day-to-day operations of a national voter protection team and work collaboratively with other departments of the DNC;
    • Engage with stakeholders at the local, state, and national level on election administration matters;
    • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partner organizations;
    • Develop programs, produce reports, and translate research and data findings into products that are useful to state voter protection and organizing teams;
    • Identify opportunities for civic engagement activity that supports capacity building;
    • Represent the department and the DNC when necessary for programming and events; and
    • Perform other duties as assigned


    Required Qualifications

    • Juris Doctor strongly preferred. Exceptional candidates without a Juris Doctor, but with significant experience interpreting voting laws, policies, and procedures will be considered
    • Experience managing teams of both staff and volunteers
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience in public presentations
    • Proven ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with diverse groups and individuals
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization
    • Strong commitment and passion in advancing the Democratic agenda, strengthening the Democratic Party, and winning elections


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Multiple cycles of voter protection experience or at least 5 years of similar, relevant experience.
    • Knowledge of and experience working with national, state and/or local organizational players engaged in voting rights strategies and programs
    • Proficiency using LBJ (or similar election data collection tool), VAN/Votebuilder, Google Suite
    • Ability to understand and work with data
    • Willingness and ability to travel
