Construction Project Manager Responsibilities

  • Manage the construction process for multi-family residential and commercial builds from concept through completion
  • Responsible for completion of projects on time and on budget
  • Ensure total safety compliance for all aspects of project
  • Assists Procurement Department in the process of bidding, estimating and securing subcontractors for projects
  • Provides daily direction, support and supervision for field Superintendents and direct reports

Construction Project Manager Qualifications

  • PREFERRED; Bachelors degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • REQUIRED; Minimum of 5 years in Construction Management or Project Management
  • REQUIRED; 10 years in construction industry; specifically, residential and commercial style builds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional problem solving skills
  • Ability to operate a vehicle, climb ladders and stairs, use tools

The Construction Project Manager supports the Engineer Procure Construct (EPC) Project Manager or Program Manager to oversee day-to-day operations from pre-construction through project completion and warranty periods. + Responsible for the oversight of day-to-day construction activities and the successful execution of a single or multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Provide direction and participate in project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishing critical project objectives.
+ Develop new and manage existing client relationships while interfacing with the client for proposal and project related items.
+ Participate in internal and external project risk reviews and consult with Legal Department as required.

Project Manager Public Construction

Our client is a well-established general contracting and construction management firm based in Northern New Jersey, with over two decades of experience delivering complex public construction projects. Known for its commitment to quality, transparency, and community impact, the firm specializes in K-12 schools, higher education facilities, municipal buildings, and public safety infrastructure.

Job Description

Project Management: Lead and oversee public sector construction projects ranging from $5M to $0M+.

Schedule Management: Manage all phases of project lifecycle including bidding, scheduling, budgeting, subcontractor management, and close-out.

Quality Control: Ensure compliance with NJ public contracting laws, DCA codes, prevailing wage requirements, and relevant regulatory standards.

Team Leadership: Coordinate with architects, engineers, school boards, municipal officials, and owner representatives.

Safety Compliance: Monitor field activities to ensure timely execution, safety compliance, and quality control.

Documentation: Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.

The Successful Applicant

Minimum 7 years of experience in construction project management, with at least 3 years in public construction in New Jersey.

Proven track record delivering K-12 school, municipal, or other government-funded projects.

Strong understanding of New Jersey public procurement and DCA/DOL compliance.

Excellent communication, documentation, and team leadership skills.

Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam).

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites across Northern NJ.
