+ Initiates, performs, and documents jobsite inspections and audits with special emphasis on hazard recognition and identifying unsafe behaviors in data centers and at construction sites with contractor's onsite safety team.
+ Schedules, coordinates, and conducts safety meetings and training programs to ensure the effective communication of company policy and safety standards. Maintains records of employee safety training through the company or a third party.
+ Facilitates safety committee meetings and related activities including the recording of minutes, corrective actions required, and action item documentation.
+ Assists in coordinating new hire safety orientation training, annual risk/safety training, remedial safety training, and First Aid/CPR and AED training.
+ Reviews job hazard assessments and recommend measures to control exposures, including substitution of less hazardous materials, use of PPE (personal protective equipment), work practice changes and engineering controls.
+ Ensures injury reports are completed promptly and accurately. Conduct injury prevention meetings, recommends appropriate corrective actions, etc. in response to significant injuries.
+ Assists personnel in the proper methods of incident investigation, safety inspections, incident reporting, and compliance with safety laws and regulations.
+ Coordinates with Human Resources, EHS Manager and the corporate insurance group as regards to high value insurance claims, to ensure that documentary information has been collected, secured, and preserved so that claims will be resolved in a timely manner as required at the local office.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**
+ Working knowledge of OSHA, CalOSHA, VOSH and other state and federal agency guidelines
+ Demonstrated competency as well as experience in EH&S compliance programs both as applicable to OSHA CFR29 1910 and 1926.
+ Experience working with environmental agencies.
+ Ability to lead contractors in pursuit of environmental permitting for construction projects and operational facilities.

We are seeking an **_Occupational Safety Officer_** who is primarily responsible for assisting the Associate Director of Occupational & Environmental Safety in the Department of Health, Safety, and Environment in the development and implementation of an occupational safety program for Johns Hopkins Institutions on the East Baltimore campus. This includes the Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH), School of Medicine (SOM), School of Nursing (SON), Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH), and portions of the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS).
**Essential Job Functions**
+ Under the direction of the Associate Director, implements programs which will assure compliance with all safety, health and fire regulations required by Federal, State and City laws. Makes recommendations which will ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
+ Investigates incidents involving fire, unsafe conditions and/or occupational injury. Communicates with staff, faculty and management to correct physical or procedural deficiencies that may be causing accidents, injuries or regulatory non-compliance. Promptly generates a written report of the findings. Interfaces with Facilities departments and effected staff to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
+ Participates in the development and implementation of training programs in the area of occupational safety, evacuation and fire prevention for employees in all areas.
+ Accompanies representatives of government, insurance companies, and accrediting officials making safety, risk and fire inspections. Assists in tracking of annual fire department permits.
+ Reviews plans for new construction, renovation of existing facilities and building system outages to ensure that they are in compliance with safety and fire codes. Engages with engineering staff and management to resolve any problems.
+ Participates in the Respiratory Protection Program, assisting with respirator fit-testing. Performs PAPR filter changes, maintenance and distribution as needed.
+ Participates in the development of emergency plans for all areas. Updates unit specific life safety plans.
+ Assists in the development of fire drills, fire prevention manuals and other instructional tools that will aid in the control of fire hazards.
+ Assists industrial hygienists with annual chemical fume hood certifications.
+ Establishes and maintains effective relationships with other departments. Communicates and builds strong relationships at all levels.
+ Working knowledge of Windows and/or Apple operating systems, Microsoft Office products including - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and other programs as needed to effectively track deficiencies, analyze data, write reports, send email, develop and produce training materials.
+ Recognizes unsafe work conditions or work practices, recommends abatement measures, and reports unabated conditions to management.

**Essential Job Functions**
+ Under the direction of the Associate Director, implements programs which will assure compliance with all safety, health and fire regulations required by Federal, State and City laws. Makes recommendations which will ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
+ Investigates incidents involving fire, unsafe conditions and/or occupational injury. Communicates with staff, faculty and management to correct physical or procedural deficiencies that may be causing accidents, injuries or regulatory non-compliance. Promptly generates a written report of the findings. Interfaces with Facilities departments and effected staff to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
+ Participates in the development and implementation of training programs in the area of occupational safety, evacuation and fire prevention for employees in all areas.
+ Accompanies representatives of government, insurance companies, and accrediting officials making safety, risk and fire inspections. Assists in tracking of annual fire department permits.
+ Reviews plans for new construction, renovation of existing facilities and building system outages to ensure that they are in compliance with safety and fire codes. Engages with engineering staff and management to resolve any problems.
+ Participates in the Respiratory Protection Program, assisting with respirator fit-testing. Performs PAPR filter changes, maintenance and distribution as needed.
+ Participates in the development of emergency plans for all areas. Updates unit specific life safety plans.
+ Assists in the development of fire drills, fire prevention manuals and other instructional tools that will aid in the control of fire hazards.
+ Assists industrial hygienists with annual chemical fume hood certifications.
+ Establishes and maintains effective relationships with other departments. Communicates and builds strong relationships at all levels.
+ Working knowledge of Windows and/or Apple operating systems, Microsoft Office products including - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and other programs as needed to effectively track deficiencies, analyze data, write reports, send email, develop and produce training materials.
+ Recognizes unsafe work conditions or work practices, recommends abatement measures, and reports unabated conditions to management.
+ Performs related duties as assigned.
Certification
+ CIH, CSP, RS and/or HEM a plus

+ Excellent communications skills are required for the ability to respectfully relate to all levels of personnel in a university, hospital, and academic research environment.
