Overview:
The Consumer Insights Manager is a newly created, pivotal role within the Boar's Head marketing team. This individual contributor will be the voice of the consumer, responsible for building and leading the consumer insights function to support all facets of our marketing efforts. You will be a strategic partner, providing the "why" behind consumer behavior to inform everything from product innovation and brand strategy to shopper marketing and advertising effectiveness.
We are seeking a seasoned research professional with the confidence and expertise to not only execute best-in-class research but also to critically evaluate and elevate our current practices. This role requires a leader who has experience working with and challenging external research vendors, to ensure we are always getting the most accurate and actionable insights.
Job Description:
Essential Functions
- Holistic Research Leadership : Design, execute, and analyze a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research studies to address key business questions across the marketing spectrum. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Product Development : Conduct research on product appeal, sensory analysis, claims testing, and concept validation to guide the innovation pipeline.
- Shopper Marketing : Uncover insights into the shopper journey, in-store behavior, and the effectiveness of point-of-sale materials and promotions.
- Brand Communications and Media : Lead research on brand health tracking, advertising effectiveness (in-store and out-of-store), and messaging resonance to ensure our communications connect with consumers.
- Consumer Segmentation: You will develop and implement a robust consumer segmentation framework to identify key consumer groups, understand their unique needs and behaviors and inform targeted product development and marketing communications.
- Audit and Elevate Current Practices : Conduct a comprehensive audit of our existing research methodologies and vendor partnerships. Identify areas for improvement, introduce new and more effective research techniques, and establish a set of best practices for the organization.
- Vendor Management & Accountability : Oversee all relationships with external research suppliers. This includes vendor selection, project management, and a critical evaluation of their work. You will be empowered to hold our vendors accountable if their work is not up to our high standards and to find new partners when necessary.
- Storytelling with Data : Go beyond simply reporting data. You will be responsible for synthesizing information from multiple sources into a cohesive and compelling narrative that provides clear, actionable recommendations for the marketing team and senior leadership.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Serve as a key partner to the product marketing, shopper marketing, media, and brand communications teams. Proactively share insights and ensure the consumer's voice is integrated into all marketing strategies and plans.
- Synthesize Insights with Market Data: Partner closely with our internal analytics team to integrate syndicated market data (e.g., Circana)
- Be the Expert : Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, research methodologies (including AI), and consumer behaviors to keep Boar's Head at the forefront of consumer understanding.
- Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the annual consumer insights budget, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within financial scope. You will be responsible for prioritizing investments, tracking all research-related expenditures, and providing regular updates to marketing leadership on budget spend and ROI.

- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Statistics, Business, Psychology, or a related field.
- 5-7+ years of experience in a consumer insights or market research role, preferably within the consumer-packaged goods (CPG) or food and beverage industry.
- Proven experience in designing and leading a variety of research methodologies, including but not limited to focus groups, in-depth interviews, consumer surveys, sensory testing, and market segmentation.
- A deep knowledge of statistical methods and techniques used in consumer research
- A strong track record of translating research findings into actionable business insights that have driven growth and informed marketing strategy.
- Demonstrated experience in managing research vendors, including negotiating contracts and ensuring the quality and integrity of their work.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise stories.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Consulting:
- Brand Co-Pilot: Provide consumer perspective and solutions to brand management. Continuously represent the voice of the consumer with deep empathy and understanding, influencing decisions in their favor. Translate syndicated and custom data into meaningful and compelling insights, communicated with compelling storytelling.
- Strategic Perspective: Collaborate with business partners to understand drivers, challenges, and growth opportunities of business performance. Move beyond data to create actionable perspectives using a "what, so-what, now-what" narrative.
- Holistic Consumer View: Partner with insights functions across Consumer, Analytics, and Shopper, fostering a unified team perspective.
- Empathy Building: Communicate existing climate, identify behavior shifts, and bring to life trends and platforms to drive opportunities.
Brand Insights Development:
- High Value Portfolio Strategy: Focus on driving high value/high impact work and leverage insights to enhance the full brand portfolio.
- Connecting the Dots: Synthesize research (primary, secondary, market data) to build a comprehensive consumer story.
- Business-Appropriate Communication: Tailor research findings to support upcoming decisions and deliver in business-audience appropriate way that drives winning strategies.
Budget & Vendor Management:
- Strategic Planning: Develop annual plans and budgets aligned with commercial partners to deliver impactful insights.
- Supplier Relationships: Provide suppliers access to relevant information, fostering valuable partnerships.
Financial/Strategic Impact:
- Deliver Business Goals: Contribute to corporate objectives related to Market Share, Sales Volume Growth, Brand Health, Return on Investment, and Product Performance.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Economics, Psychology, Sociology or related field required; MBA preferred
- Minimum of 5+ years of marketing research/consumer insight experience with proven business impact.
- Strong drive for results with a passion for the consumer and Brand building.
- Business-owner vs. researcher mindset with advanced proficiency in syndicated and custom data knowledge (Nielsen, Circana)
-Be comfortable with ambiguity and needing to figure things out
- Experience in selecting appropriate, diverse research methodologies, designing research studies, and trying new methods when appropriate particularly as related to innovation
- Experience leading projects with ownership of budgets, suppliers, research, and schedule
- Strong sense of curiosity and desire to seek opportunities to self-educate on new methodologies and techniques, and general research and business news.
- Ability to influence across multiple levels in an organization
The approximate pay range for this position is $135,050-$170, 235. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location.
