How you will create an impact:
  • As a Director, you will be a vital member of our Consumer consulting team focused on Retail strategy, driving value-based outcomes while contributing to Simon-Kucher's culture and success.
  • Cultivate trusted-partner client relationships, source project opportunities, and develop project proposals that lead to revenue generation.
  • Bring knowledge across commercial and go-to-market topics within retail including but not limited to pricing strategy and setting, promotion effectiveness, markdowns and clearance optimization, assortment optimization and white space identification, merchandising and value proposition, consumer segmentation, loyalty program design, and omnichannel strategies.
  • Have deep expertise in sub-industries within Retail, such as specialty retail, apparel/fashion, footwear, retail services across brick-and-mortar stores and online channels.
  • Lead and guide a large and incredibly talented team of junior consultants to develop innovative and actionable insights and recommendations using data, analytics, and market research that deliver impactful recommendations for clients.
  • High-energy, hands-on, creative consulting leader who can work with clients, staff, and Partners in a non-hierarchical model.
  • Effectively develop project team members by providing coaching, training, and feedback. Demonstrate an elevated level of empathy and emotional intelligence when managing conflict and/or communicating change.
  • Owner of multiple client engagements and projects within Consumer sector, specifically Retail organizations. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, scale, and manage delivery which balances customer success, project profitability, and employee satisfaction.
  • Actively participate in proposal development and pre-sales meetings with potential new clients to address their needs, priorities, and challenges, while expanding SK's commercial growth strategy footprint, offerings, and client base.
  • Proactively steer the continued growth and development of Simon-Kucher's Consumer sector, specializing in Retail practice by contributing to priorities (e.g., developing new capabilities, supporting thought leadership articles/research relevant for clients), by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities (e.g., lead generation, new content creation, supporting end-to-end proposal development, and participating in client pitches), and proactively pursuing follow-on opportunities with existing clients.
  • Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to our clients' businesses.
  • Analyze existing processes and tools and recommend opportunities for continued improvement.


Your profile:
  • Outstanding drive, determination, and desire to be part of a growing, top-tier consulting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for the Consumer sector, with specific focus on the Retail industry.
  • An undergraduate degree is required; MS, MA, MBA, or other advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in a professional services environment, ideally in management consulting, serving the Consumer sector, specifically the Retail industry.
  • Proven business consulting expertise in commercial and go-to-market topics.
  • Access to an existing network within the Consumer Retail industry in North America, preferably with senior executives within Retail organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain deep relationships with senior clients.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in selling and managing new and follow-on engagements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to distill insights/takeaways from large sets of data.

The pay range for this position in New York is $215,000-$250,000/year. Compensation may vary depending on relevant experience, skills, geographic location, and business needs. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, 13 paid holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, basic life insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.

Responsibilities Client Delivery Execute transformational projects with a scope of services that includes diagnostics/business cases, channel strategy, sales strategy and effectiveness, sales model and go-to market (GTM) design, sales process optimization, sales performance measurement & rewards, sales tool and enablement, and sales organization and operating model Develop data driven, customer-centric segmentation strategies and creating innovative sales and marketing analytics Analyze each client's specific request and determine the underlying problem and recommend proper solutions Mentor and manage teams of Consultants People and Practice Development Be a leader in growing and developing the Sales Strategy team Identify strengths and issues; drive and develop better behavior to create strong Consultants Participate actively in the recruiting process for other Consultants Drive the development and enhancement of WMP’s methodologies and approaches to client delivery and provide thought leadership for internal practice development Coach and manage other consultants and participate actively in the performance expectation process Business Development Participate in business development with prospective clients including pre-sales, estimating, negotiating and project planning Create work plans, pricing estimates, and risk assessments for prospects Participate in key client relationships and growing those accounts within Customer Experience practice and cross selling to other areas within WMP Other Responsibilities Manage client relationships and meet with clients to determine business and functional requirements Strong analytical skills including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and the translation of those needs into operational requirements Facilitate effective change management programs within the client organization Qualifications 7+ years of experience working for a consulting firm or as a Sales Operations leader on the industry side Demonstrates proven extensive skills driving improvements in sales efficiency and productivity, including sales channel and organization design, partner management, coverage model design, go-to-market planning, sales operating model, sales compensation design, and sales methodology design/deployment Extensive industry sales and management consulting experience preferable with one or more industries: High Tech, Software, Insurance, Payer, and Industrial Products Functional experience in Sales Strategy with preferred experience in one or more of the following: Revenue Operations, Marketing, Customer Success Knowledge of sales operations technologies and how they impact the overall sales process Ability to work well with people including project stakeholders and project team members Ability to travel to client-site 30-50% (post-COVID) Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without limitation Based on pay transparency guidelines, the salary range for this role can vary based on your proximity to one of our West Monroe offices (see table below). They will have robust experience in sales or global strategy and translating product strategy into scalable sales plans in the SAAS B2B customer space. This includes creating and implementing segmentation and sales engagement models as well as developing annual strategic plans across sales and go to market (GTM) functions. Results include delivering annual segmentation as well as mapping sales plays to our customers and enabling the field to execute. Additional outcomes include owning critical initiatives through to execution, and packaging and delivering sound recommendations to the Field and Global Sales Strategy & Operations Leadership. The role requires partnering and influencing various areas of the organization, including GTM and sales leadership. What You’ll Do Determine sales coverage strategy, develop sales coverage models to drive account segmentation and ratios Create internal engagement model playbooks to create a world class experience for our customers Design global sales team operating cadence for the Corporate segment Develop the end-to-end Customer Journey and associated sales play criteria Create market analytics to inform strategies Develop OKRs with monthly reviews and quarterly checks to determine what evolution is needed Contribute to an environment where diverse perspectives are core to the team What You'll Need to Succeed Robust analytical skills including advanced excel modelling, SQL preferred Demonstrated ability in Sales, Sales Strategy and Sales Operations, consulting/software preferred Track record designing business processes, capacity modeling, sales productivity & territory planning Proactive & self-starter with experience driving critical initiatives Proven experience thriving in ambiguity and quick timeframes Experience building cross-functional partnerships Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets.
