Job Description
Amazon Ads operates at the intersection of eCommerce and advertising, offering a rich array of digital display advertising solutions with the goal of helping our customers find and discover anything they want to buy. We help advertisers reach Amazon customers on Amazon.com, across our other owned and operated sites, on other high-quality sites across the web, and on millions of Kindles, tablets, and mobile devices. We start with the customer and work backwards in everything we do, including advertising. If you're interested in joining a rapidly growing team working to build a unique, world-class advertising group with a relentless focus on the customer, you've come to the right place.
Amazon Ads is looking for a Senior Manager of Product Release Manager to lead release management globally for advertising products, tools and services that impact all Amazon advertisers and customers. As our ad products evolve, the Product Release Management (PRM) team's core function is to ensure all of Advertising Services are systematically equipped to support advertisers to be successful with our products. RM is an expert in Advertising Services and our ad products. This team is crucial for a successful product launch, acting as owners of our service models including required features for each product launch, the advertiser experience based on expert knowledge, and the publisher protections necessary to protect the viewing/shopping customer experience. The RM works closely with ad product owners across the full Amazon Ads portfolio. They establish and simplify processes to meet internal service team and advertiser needs (e.g. roadmap prioritization, Ad Services lifecycle) and audit mechanisms. They leverage their expertise of operational processes and their deep understanding of product architecture to influence prioritization of product requirements. By doing so, the RM mitigations risks to product and service launches.
The candidate will have high standards for themselves and their team, and will be constantly looking around corners to prevent short-sighted decisions. This role requires a strong ability to find creative solutions to challenging problems, excellent communication skills, ability to easily navigate ambiguity and define a path forward. You must know how to influence and motivate to get the right things done.
Key job responsibilities
As owners of our primary service models, they drive product discussions (e.g. vision, goals, tenets, roadmap, narratives, MBR/QBRs) with executive representatives. They work cross org with leaders to create product material, service team training, and operational readiness. The RM actively drives discussions cross org for CX/service team usability, feature design trade-offs, product gap prioritization, and org-level business goals. Lastly, RMs are excellent at driving results, able to coordinate large, multi-functional projects on-time, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, make trade-offs, and balance business needs versus technical constraints. They are involved in reviewing product workflow design and balance near term business need with longer term implications for Amazon. They rationalize business priorities and technical requirements with cross-functional teams, effectively managing cross-functional communication to ensure all business and technical stakeholder's needs are aligned.
A day in the life
Release Managers lead product releases that are large in scope and impact to customers and to the advertising business. They are expected to influence product development strategy to launch the right advertising solutions for advertisers. They enable optimal business and investments decisions for upstream and downstream executing teams through providing data and insights that help identify opportunities for product automation and improved CX. Beyond RM responsibilities, they autonomously gain partner buy-in and implement mechanisms that raise the release readiness bar for all advertising Products and tools globally. They independently develop roadmaps, project plans, risks and dependency logs, releases planning calendars, status updates, and post-mortems. They build simplified processes that automate repeatable activities, promote global standardization, improve testing rigor, remove internal process bottlenecks, and drive productivity gains. They leverage their expertise of operational processes and their deep understanding of product architecture to influence prioritization of product requirements. As leader of this team, you functionally deliver through the team, often stepping in on high-impact releases to ensure successful launch. You lead by example, are the primary point of escalation, challenge the team and stakeholders to grow and develop, and build the right strategy to ensure product release success.
