Morning Glory's farmstand features products from our fields, other Island farms, and beyond. You will find our shelves are overflowing with our cut flowers, vegetables and fruits that we pick fresh daily and offer at the peak of their freshness for you to enjoy.

Under the direction of the Farmstand Supervisor, the Farmstand Specialist is an hourly position responsible for exceptional customer service in conformance with established Farm policies, strategies and procedures.

In our daily work, we:
  • Are able to easily advise and assist customers throughout the farmstand ensuring the customer has a successful shopping experience.
  • Operate all cash register transactions, cash, credit, gift card, check and house accounts with accuracy and efficiency while maintaining a balanced cash drawer.
  • Keep check out areas clean, tidy and well stocked. Farmstand duties include the initiative to be alert in discovering price discrepancies, bagging, answering phone calls and retrieving carts from the parking lot.
  • Assist in store setup and/or store closing procedures.
  • Maintain and stock product displays, coolers and freezers and all other hardline merchandise.
  • Assist with waste properly sorted for garbage, recycling, compost and animal feed.
  • Aid in receiving trucks from distributors, vendors and MGF's off-island shipments.
  • Collaborate with Supervisor to properly rotate stock on and off the sales floor.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements

Our ideal candidate:
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to lift 40-50 lbs on a regular basis, as well as be able to stand for long periods of time and fit to climb stairs.
  • Previous customer service and cashier experience preferred, but can train the right person.
  • Food service industry preferred, but not required. (ServSafe a plus!).

About the Organization
Morning Glory Farm, started in 1975 by James and Deborah Athearn, grows about 65 acres of vegetables and small fruits on the island of Martha's Vineyard.

Small successive plantings of a wide variety of crops supply the Farmstand from May through December.

Crops include sweet corn, lettuce, carrots, beets, tomatoes, melons, potatoes, beans, squash, pumpkins, and more. Our herb garden supplies a full assortment of culinary herbs. We also raise four acres of cut flowers, and small plantings of strawberries, grapes, peaches, and beach plums.

We keep beef cows on pasture in Chilmark for which we harvest 45 acres of hay and we also produce eggs, pork and fresh, pasture-raised chickens to sell in the Farmstand. Twenty-three acres of our vegetable fields are farmed using natural practices and only OMRI certified fertilizers and pesticides. We manage the rest of our land with a minimum of pesticides and with attention to the long-term health of the soil.

The farm name grew from the vision of the sun rising over lush, green fields, cows with udders full of milk ambling past bountiful gardens and hedgerows lively with honeybees: true wealth of nature's glory.

Each year we meet a new crew of farmers, bakers, cooks, and Farmstand staff who become part of the farm family. The farm has benefited from a variety of wonderful people who have endowed Morning Glory with their own special contributions.

  • Perform additional services on cooling systems and transmissions.
  • Perform second checks by visually verifying and performing proper callouts to ensure all necessary services have been performed correctly.
  • Able to move from bay to bay to perform services on multiple vehicles.
  • Frequently ascends/descends stairs/catwalks/stepstools to retrieve vehicle parts (filters, wipers, etc.) or perform services top side or underneath the vehicle (drain oil, replace filter, differential services, lubrication)
  • Able to work for extended periods of time with arms above your head when performing services underneath the vehicle on a catwalk.
  • Constantly positions self to perform required services under the hood, related to tires, or on catwalk working underneath the vehicle.
  • Able to move/transport items up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Able to work with tools to perform duties in tight sometimes hard to reach areas.
  • Communicate verbally and receive verbal communication to ensure services are performed accurately, safely and in the proper order.

  • In this position you will be subject to environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside and in varying temperature conditions.
  • In this position you will be subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
