NICU RN's are responsible for total care of infants who may be diagnosed with congenital defects, delivery complications, or most often, prematurity. Hospitals are given a NICU Level I-IV based upon the type of care provided and the extent of technology available. Level I (lowest) is designed for less critically ill infants, while Level IV (highest) provides the most sophisticated care for ill, or premature infants.
Education/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): 4-Year Education

- You must earn an ADN or BSN degree and pass the NCLEX to apply for a license as a RN.

Under general supervision and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems. Utilizes available teaching plans in addressing patient teaching needs. Accurately calculates and administers medications. Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations.
+ Evaluation: standard of performance: Evaluates assessment methods, plan of care, and patients response to treatment. Participates in unit quality assurance activities.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
+ Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
+ Minimum two (2) years recent ICU nursing experience.
Education
+ Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

+ Basic Life Support required at hire
+ NIH Stroke Scale Certificate within 3 months of hire
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support
