The annual base salary range for this position is $141,000 - $225,000

**Description**
Develop robust methodologies to assess the performance of foundation models (e.g., LLMs, vision-language models, etc.) across diverse tasks. Leverage LLMs as judges to perform subjective and open-ended model evaluations (e.g., for summarization, reasoning, or multimodal generation tasks). Build, curate, and lead evaluation datasets and benchmarks. Advanced proficiency in at least one scripting language, preferably Python. Collaborate with research, engineering, and product teams to define evaluation goals aligned with user experience and product quality. Conduct failure analysis and uncover edge cases to improve model robustness. Contribute to our tools and infrastructure to automate and scale evaluation processes.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
+ Strong experience in evaluating supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning models.
+ Hands-on experience evaluating LLMs (e.g., GPT, Claude, PaLM) and using them as scoring/judging mechanisms.
+ Familiarity with multimodal models (e.g., image + text, video + audio) and related evaluation challenges.

**What You'll Do**
+ Engage with non-technical teams to assist in project scoping, prioritization, and decision-making processes.
+ Collaborate with a diverse team of talented data scientists and engage with various cross-functional teams within Robert Half to drive innovation and excellence.
+ Participate in project design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation.
+ Improve data collection processes to enhance the quality of analytics.
+ Apply technical solutions to solve business problems and achieve business goals using an array of data science and machine learning tools that follow data science best practices.
+ Support the establishment of technical standards, compliance, key performance indicators (KPIs), monitoring strategies, model updates, and testing protocols.
+ Engage in code reviews, debugging activities, both independently and as part of a team.
**What You'll Need**
+ Bachelor's degree in computer science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or other STEM fields. Advanced degrees preferred.
+ 2+ years of hands-on industry experience in statistical modeling, data mining, large data analysis and predictive modeling using python; text mining a major plus.
+ 2+ years of experience working in cloud environment like AWS.
+ Experience with agile development process.
+ Familiarity with version control (e.g., git).
+ Experience in developing machine learning algorithms and bringing them to production.
+ Excellent technical and communication skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams and external partners to understand the technological landscape and document ML processes effectively.
+ Creative thinking with the ability to translate business and functional requirements into comprehensive designs, collaborating closely with product and engineering teams for implementation.

The typical annual salary range for this position is shown below and is negotiable depending upon experience and location. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.
$102,000.00 - $150,000.00

We are currently looking for a hardworking Data Scientist to evaluate and craft Apple's machine learning based products in the field of computer vision, solutions that touch the lives of millions of users around the world.
You'll be tasked to collaborate with multi-functional teams including deep learning, quality assurance, cloud infrastructure, and user research. You will drive improvements in algorithm performance and guide feature development through data driven insights, helping to deliver outstanding user experiences across Apple's product ecosystem.
**Description**
Video Engineering DAQ (Data Analytics and Quality) team is seeking a self-motivated and diligent Data Scientist to research and develop evaluation methods that support the continuous improvement of Apple's diverse computer vision projects.
In this role, you will gain deep insight into Apple's algorithms and conduct in-depth failure analyses using data from on-device to large-scale user studies to uncover root causes of unexpected algorithm behavior. You will regularly and directly present your findings to Apple senior leadership and multi-functional teams, playing a key role in guiding product development. A strong programming background is essential, as you will also be responsible for building and maintaining automated pipelines that run on cluster machines to analyze and visualize data at scale.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience
+ Extensive experience in data science, machine learning, computer vision and statistical data analysis
+ Proven experience in in-depth analysis of machine learning model failures
+ Proficient in crafting, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting experiments and investigations
+ Advanced programming skills in data manipulation & processing (SQL & Python preferred)
+ Expertise in data wrangling and developing data visualizations & reporting with toolings such as Tableau, Superset, AWS etc.
+ Experience presenting data to stakeholders
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Familiar with machine learning interpretability methods is a huge plus

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

This role is based at our Santa Clara, CA office. An ML Engineer is required to be in office Mondays and Wednesdays each week. Lunch will be provided on those days.

What you'll be doing:

  • Research, prototype and experiment with a variety of AI/ML libraries, frameworks, and tools to identify the best approaches for analyzing go to market data
  • Analyze findings from experiments and provide clear, actionable recommendations on optimal AI/ML methodologies and technologies
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design, develop and deploy a scalable AI-powered product that delivers insights into a go-to-market strategies and their impact on success
  • Build, evaluate, and optimize machine learning models to ensure high performance, accuracy, and scalability

Requirements:
