POSITION DESCRIPTION Job Title: Deli Operations Supervisor Department: Deli Job Code: PT 660 and FT 653 Reports To: Market Assistant Store Manager - Fresh Primary Purpose: Lead the Deli Department Team and assist the Assistant Store Manager - Fresh in maintaining department operations to meet financial and sales goals. Build associate and customer relations and promote a strong culture in support of Hannaford Strategy. Duties and Responsibilities: •Lead the Deli Department operations in accordance with established department standard practices, in the absence of the Assistant Store Manager- Fresh. •Lead excellent customer service and goodwill by role modeling and providing high standards in customer service and sales building. •Aid in growing sales through effective merchandising strategies. •Support that department conditions involving appearance, quality, variety, safety, sanitation, and food safety are consistently maintained at the highest level. •Maintain accurate records of production, shrink, sales, and inventory. •Utilize company tools such as: financial reports, scheduling, productivity, ordering, and business information systems. •Assist in creating and maintaining effective work schedules to meet production and customer service standards as well as associates' personal needs. •Use good judgment in the delegation, assignment, and follow up required for the efficient performance of the department. •Provide real time coaching, feedback, and assist with the performance management process. •Assist in training and developing associates to meet the department needs. •Maintain solid communication in the department and with store management. •Observe and follow all company policies and established standard practices. •Perform all other duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications: •A high school graduate or equivalent preferred. •Retail deli experience preferred. •Ability to lead and direct others. •Strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques preferred. •Effective communication, customer service, and selling skills. •Effective interpersonal and organizational skills. •Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job. •Strong problem solving skills. •Must meet minimum age requirements. •Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar accrediting organization as a "Certified Food Safety Manager" or will be required to attend company provided training and have the ability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days of employment. Accreditation must be maintained while employed in a position requiring accreditation. Physical Requirements: •Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions. •Perform repetitive grasping, pinching, squeezing, and hand/arm motions while standing/walking the majority of the shift. •Frequent Bending, kneeling and squatting. •Frequent reaching, grasping, and lifting individual stock items below waist level or above shoulder level. •Stand or walk the majority of the time. •Lift up to 15 lbs. frequently and up to 40 lbs. occasionally. •Push/pull 3-15 lbs. frequently. •Reach to shoulder level frequently while lifting up to 15 lbs. and overhead on occasion. •Use hands to operate controls, feel objects and use tools to open and prepare products. •Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning materials, packaging materials, and food production. •Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.

**Job Description:**
**Position Summary:**
This role is responsible to direct retail operations, category management, wholesale sales, procurement and promotions for deli merchandising. Ensure the department merchandising plans, programs, strategic initiatives and campaigns achieve budgeted sales and gross profit objectives. Oversee and ensure the category management across the deli merchandising department for company-owned retail stores and independent customers meet Company objectives.
**Here's what you'll do:**
+ Direct the deli merchandising operations, category management, procurement and promotions to achieve budgeted sales and profit targets for retail and wholesale divisions.
+ Responsible for P&L management, vendor negotiations and the development of merchandising programs that meet or exceed sales and profit plans.
+ Develop department objectives and monitor the budgeted objectives for department sales and profits utilizing fair share trends from global marketing research reports, profitability scorecards and profit and loss statements; ensure the merchandising programs, initiatives and campaigns achieve budgeted sales and gross profit objectives.
+ Oversee the analysis of financial data to accurately plan, budget and forecast promotions, and post-promotion analysis to measure program effectiveness and recommend changes for future execution of plans accordingly.
+ Develop quantifiable strategies for private brand growth and profitability and work with private label to increase sales.
+ Analyze retail and industry trends and competitive factors on a global scale and provide strategies to align with industry trends and department objectives.
+ Participate in cross-functional business initiatives working with Category Management, Retail (company-owned and independent retailers), etc. to align business strategies and communications of such initiatives.
+ Maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally (i.e., cross-functional business partners, vendors, customers) and develop collaborative efforts for increased market share, customer loyalty and profitability.
+ Identify opportunities and recommend process improvements to enhance merchandising plans and work cross-functionally (i.e., Distribution, Shelf Technology, IT, Pricing, Accounting, Procurement, etc.) to implement improvements to meet company goals and objectives.
+ Ensure that federal and state regulations and company standards are met for product freshness and food safety.
+ Responsible for department management including staffing, training, performance management and career development of associates, and developing and monitoring department goals.
+ Develop and monitor department budget as required.
+ Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and best Merchandising practices; make recommendations to improve current programs and processes.
+ Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
**Here's what you'll need:**
+ Bachelor's Degree (Required) in Food Marketing or related area or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
+ Ten years of retail merchandising experience to include five years of experience with deli merchandising and/or procurement.
+ Five years of experience in a supervisory / management role.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong negotiation and influencing skills.
+ Ability to effectively manage internal and external business relationships and work collaboratively.
+ Excellent organization, prioritization, project management, analytical and decision making skills.
+ Strong leadership and financial/business acumen skills.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of merchandising and procurement principles and skills, and in-depth knowledge of deli merchandising.
+ Proficient in Microsoft office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; Access experience preferred.
+ Ability to travel up to 50%.
