Martin/Martin, Inc. is looking for a Protective Design Services Lead to join our Structural Engineering Department, preferably in our headquarters office in Lakewood, Colorado. This technical expert will work with our leadership in both the federal and private sectors to leverage their expertise in Protective Design.

The successful candidate will supervise services that include blast analysis and design, threat assessment, progressive collapse analysis, façade design, and physical security consulting. This person will play a key role in business development, working with firm principals, and will serve as project lead on the blast/security scope of work. The role will include supervision of staff; over time this person will grow a team that focuses on protective design.

While many of our projects are located in the Rocky Mountain region, Martin/Martin's national footprint provides opportunities to work on projects around the country, and sometimes internationally. We operate in a dynamic environment and strive to support a culture that is collaborative, innovative, and creative. Each project presents unique challenges and opportunities to learn and grow as an engineer and manager.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Develop BD strategy with the Federal, Aerospace, and Energy Market Sector Leaders (structural and civil) to pursue more protective design services on projects where Martin/Martin is the EOR for the structure or the site
  • Coordinate and participate in proactive outreach to Federal, Public, and Private agencies and to contractors/consultants working for those agencies who need blast and protective design consulting services
  • Lead the protective design scope of services: primarily analysis, client consulting, studies, and reports. Advise on needs and review drawings for incorporating protective design into the construction drawings.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage project work plans, schedules, and design budgets.
  • Build lasting relationships with clients through project work and business development activities.
  • Attend industry events; make presentations
  • Train designated staff in protective design
  • Lead or assist with hiring engineers with protective design experience
  • Engineer of Record for projects within area of expertise
WORKING CONDITIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES

This position is primarily technical in nature and requires working inside and outside the office to complete a wide range of activities. The following abilities are required:

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Registered Professional Engineer

  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in blast analysis software and design
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present technical subject matter to non-technical clients

Under the direction of the Director of Small Business, the Senior Business Manager, Design Services is responsible for managing program(s) activities for storefront and faade improvements, design services, and commercial district enhancement, which provide services to new and existing businesses and neighborhood commercial districts in the city of Boston's neighborhoods, and providing direct one-on-one assistance to businesses. This is a senior position working to maximize the impact of the resources available to and provided by OEOI through the provision of integrated design, faade, and business services throughout Boston.

Responsibilities
  1. Coordinates between business owners, construction contractors/fabricators, designers, and internal City agencies.
  2. Works as an advocate, topical expert, and experienced project manager to obtain approvals, permits, and licenses from the Boston Planning Department, the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA), Public Works, Inspectional Services, the Boston Landmarks Commission, and other City agencies, and commissions for projects and businesses being assisted by the Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion.
  3. Processes intake of program applications.
  4. Approves designs and funding for projects receiving assistance from the Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion.
  5. Provides design and historic preservation guidance, training, and technical assistance to neighborhood business districts and Main Streets organizations.
  6. Works with community partners (including the Main Streets and other business organizations) to help them and their constituents better access City services and other resources.
  7. Works with Business Managers and local partners to identify businesses that would like outward-facing improvements to their business or commercial building.
  8. Assists the Director in developing, implementing, and reviewing business development program policies and procedures.
  9. Manages contracted architectural and construction services and projects, including budgeting, reporting, communication, marketing, and tracking systems.
  10. Develops and implements strategies to assist businesses to open and expand in Boston's neighborhoods and to meet department and program goals and objectives.
  11. Establishes and manages relationships with city, state, federal, and non-governmental agencies and coordinates activities with relevant City staff within OEOI and across City agencies to ensure successful and timely completion of projects and delivery of service to constituents.
  12. Reviews designs of development projects for quality and cost efficiency.
  13. Trains staff and partners on the programmatic policies, to increase quality, timeliness and impact of work and services provided.
  14. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in design, architecture, business development, general contracting, or related fields, including program or project management experience and two (2) years of supervisory or project management experience.
  • An undergraduate degree is preferred; a degree in architecture, urban design or business, or building construction/science is strongly preferred. Associate or vocational training for construction/trades will be considered. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for (2) years of the required experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local zoning, permitting and licensing, building codes, and regulations related to businesses and neighborhood commercial districts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google, and Salesforce or CRM software applications preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills preferred, including providing training and/or presentations to groups.

Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of design/engineering experience of electrical building systems on mission critical facilities.
- 2+ years' experience using Revit for producing electrical engineering BIM models and construction drawings.

- Developing & publishing construction documentation for electrical building systems designs in a fast-paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
- Updating and modifying existing models, studies and construction documents as required with coordination of engineering group.
- Assist with creating and maintaining standard regional BIM templates.
- Participate in design coordination meetings with other trades for clash detection and resolution.
- Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
- Assist the project team with information exchange processes between internal and external customers.
- Provide coordination support for information requests during construction phases.
- Recording and reporting of key metrics to management.
- Travel to Data Center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys as required. On average, once or twice a year.

As a designer, you will collaborate across disciplines and teams to refine data center designs. Your work includes creating detailed models, drawings, specification, prototypes, and updating managers and leaders of changes to the building design. You engage in design discussions, review feedback from peers and collaborators, and adjust designs to ensure our data center solutions meet the highest standards of efficiency and quality.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of design/engineering experience of Electrical building systems for mission critical facilities.
- 4+ years' experience using Revit for producing Electrical engineering BIM models and construction drawings.
- Practical knowledge and understanding of electrical codes (NEC) and safety regulations. Ability to conduct lighting illumination calculations. Understanding of power distribution and as represented by Single Line diagrams, plans and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience directly related to Data Center design and construction.
- Experience with developing Revit Family content, Dynamo scripts, RF Tools.
- Familiarity with the BIMForum LOD Specification, plus AIA and NBIMS standards and best practices for BIM collaboration.
- Experience observing construction, familiar with construction technology, familiar with construction practices.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
