Position Overview:
This Digital Accessibility Specialist position within the Office of Digital Accessibility supports the University's commitment to providing accessible digital experiences for all individuals. The Academic Technology team provides a variety of functions focused on advancing the teaching and learning, research, and outreach missions of the University through thoughtful application of technology. This specialist will report to the Manager of Academic Technology and will be a part of one or more cross-functional teams in a matrix-managed organization. They will play a key role in enhancing and advancing the accessibility of web resources, IT tools, and digital learning materials. This includes evaluating, sourcing, and procuring accessible vendor products and ensuring compliance with relevant accessibility standards and laws.

Responsibilities:

  • Digital Accessibility Analysis and Implementation: Lead analysis, design, implementation, and testing efforts to improve the accessibility of University-designed web applications, software, and vendor products. Collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders to provide expert guidance on accessibility best practices and solutions.
  • Vendor Product Review: Evaluate vendor products for accessibility compliance and contribute to IT procurement processes. When accessibility gaps are identified, propose alternative solutions and collaborate with vendors, buyers, and department representatives to ensure equitable access.
  • Sourcing and Procurement: Define and integrate accessibility requirements and responsibilities into procurement bids and contracts processes. Monitor vendor compliance with contractual requirements related to accessibility. Partner with team members and internal stakeholders to prioritize accessible digital resource acquisitions.
  • Standards and Compliance: Monitor and drive progress to ensure digital learning materials and online experiences meet accessibility standards and regulations. Partner with University stakeholders to align the University's digital presence and IT infrastructure with compliant W3C WCAG standards, ADA, Section 504, and other accessibility-related laws. Oversee the evaluation of vendor solutions to document compliance with the University's accessibility policy and generate reports detailing progress for the advancement of digital accessibility.
  • Training and Support: Assist with and support training sessions, workshops, and webinars on accessibility guidelines, standards, and best practices. Provide direct assistance to staff and faculty in accessibility production and the creation of instructional materials.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS plus at least two years of experience in digital accessibility, education, academic technology, instructional design, or a related field, or master's degree.
  • Experience sourcing and procuring technology resources.
  • Experience using and testing assistive technologies, including screen readers, screen magnifiers, and speech-to-text applications.
  • Working Knowledge with digital accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes.
  • Knowledge of disability law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (web development/design, information technology, computer science, human-computer interaction) and four years of experience in digital/IT accessibility analysis and implementation; OR six years of experience in digital/IT accessibility analysis and implementation with an unrelated Bachelor's degree.
  • 1+ years of experience with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA).
  • 1+ years of experience with WCAG accessibility standards and guidelines application and adherence.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Experience integrating accessibility requirements into sourcing and procuring technology resources process.
  • Experience with web accessibility testing tools like PopeTech, Deque WorldSpace Comply, Siteimprove, etc.
  • Experience evaluating and responding to accessibility compliance reports, such as VPATs.
  • Experience assessing digital instructional materials that adhere to accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, WAI-ARIA, UAAG, and ATAG).
  • Experience teaching or training users (instructors, staff, students) on effective uses of technologies.
  • Knowledge of designing and testing methodologies on multiple platforms (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android).
  • Demonstrated expertise with web-based standards such as WCAG 2.2 and ePub3.
  • Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) Certification.
  • Experience working with third parties to improve support for digital accessibility (e.g., through product accessibility roadmaps).

Pay Range: $72,000 - $82,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in digital accessibility, focusing on accessibility assessments and remediation of documents, web properties, and information and communication technology (ICT).
  • Ability to manage a document backlog including testing, remediation and reposting or conversion of files to HTML.
  • In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines, including WCAG 2.1 and Section 508.
  • Experience testing digital content with assistive technologies (AT) and deep knowledge of how individuals with disabilities use assistive software.
  • Experience consulting and working with designers and developers to implement accessibility features.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve accessibility barriers.
  • Ability to work independently; suggest, outline, and drive accessibility initiatives from start to finish.
  • Experience working with accessibility testing tools, such as JAWS, NVDA, and/or VoiceOver.
  • Experience with manual, automated, and semi-automated accessibility review processes, including WAVE, Color Contrast Analyzer, Siteimprove, and/or AxeDevTools.
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) design principles and how they relate to accessibility.
  • Achieve Trusted Tester or CPACC certification within one calendar year.

A client of Kforce's in Golden, Colorado (CO) is hiring for a Digital Accessibility Specialist.

Summary:

The client is looking for candidates who bring proven, specialized experience from related businesses or organizations as well as system integration and technology experience. Expertise could include various technologies and roles, including SME in product and software or functional areas. Candidates must live and work within Colorado. The Specialist will use a variety of manual and automated techniques to ensure that documents comply, at a minimum, with all applicable accessibility criteria.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Using Adobe Acrobat, CommonLook, and similar tools to remediate PDF documents in order to ensure compliance with accessibility standards; Ensure that complex documents meet or exceed all applicable standards; Other document remediation assignments could include web pages, Microsoft Office documents
  • Using assistive technologies, such as screen readers (such as JAWS, Narrator, or NVDA), to manually ensure that document experiences are equitable and functional
  • Support and fulfill accessibility accommodation requests from external stakeholders
  • Track and report on progress and activities related to document remediation
  • Monitor and review updated or new accessibility and document standards as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, and Outlook) and Adobe as well as the ability to quickly learn and apply other software skills

  • 4-6 years of experience using Adobe Acrobat/Pro and Microsoft Office
  • Experience authoring and remediating documents for accessibility which includes experience auditing documents for accessibility compliance

Maximus is currently seeking a Director, Digital Accessibility to lead and expand a highly visible client-facing and internal program ensuring our digital products and services are accessible to all users, including people across a broad spectrum of abilities, and in compliance with relevant laws and standards.

This role requires a leader with hands-on experience working in an environment where accessibility is imbedded early in the software development lifecycle across design, development, and delivery. You will advise leadership and be a trusted partner to design, engineering, product, procurement, contracts, operations, sales, and other business teams. Your team's work mix will include both addressing internal enterprise accessibility matters as well as delivering accessibility services both stand-alone and as a part of larger professional services motions that are revenue-generating and client-facing, with the larger balance being professional services in nature. You will build on our existing base and scale our accessibility practice while maintaining a lean team of SMEs, with a framework of repeatable processes, templates, and toolkits to improve the efficiency of end-to-end testing and remediation projects across a global matrixed organization. You will drive organizational change to embed accessibility best practices into all internal development processes. Much of your team's focus will be on enabling other parts of the organization to perform the vast majority of hands-on work related to accessibility as a part of their existing workflows (e.g., Educating functional testers to assume responsibility for Accessibility testing, Business Analysts building accessibility into their acceptance criteria for user stories, Developers imbedding accessibility into their coding standards and pipeline, etc.). You will own the enablement of portfolio-wide compliance monitoring and reporting to stakeholders at all levels.

You will be a hands-on practitioner and team leader balancing primarily matrixed assignments of your staff with some direct management. As an advisor and advocate to the organization and to our clients, you will often facilitate in-person collaboration and engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead cross-functional projects using design thinking concepts to elicit requirements and agile delivery methodology to deliver results
