OVERVIEW:

Find your future at Fastenal! Our distribution center is hiring energetic, team oriented individuals to work in our fast pace warehouse! Working as Part-Time DC Recycling Support, you will assist in the facility maintenance for our in-house cardboard, plastic, metals and wood pallets, helping to reduce our Distribution Center's carbon footprint. This position may offer a flexible schedule after a period of onboarding, training, and meeting performance goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

o Determining proper disposal methods

o Separating waste from recyclable materials

o Sorting pallets and ensuring cleanliness and upkeep of the facility

o Operating and performing basic maintenance of balers

o Following proper recycling techniques and facility rules/guidelines

o Working towards improving our "Think Green" environment

o Maintaining the cleanliness/organization of work area

o Complying with health, safety and sustainability rules and expectations

o Participating in activities and programs that help the company achieve health, safety and sustainability objectives

o Learning, passing, and practicing various environmental health and safety trainings

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

The following skills and qualifications are required for this position:

o 18 years of age or over, due to the nature of work

o Excellent written and oral communication skills

o Highly motivated, self directed and customer service oriented

o Learn and perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

o Work independently as well as in a team environment

o Willingness to work a flexible schedule/extra time as needed

o Willingness to stand for extended periods of time

o Lift, slide, carry and lower packages that typically weigh 25lbs-50lbs and may weigh up to 100lbs

o Pass the required drug screen (applicable in the US, Puerto Rico, and Guam ONLY)

PREFERRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

o Previous forklift experience

+ 25% Coaching and Developing Associates: Guides associates in daily operations, and monitors to ensure a high degree of productivity, safety, service and quality. Responsible for the training, coaching and feedback of hourly associates, and performs regular evaluations of associates through factual data and subjective observations. Uses discretion to provide coaching and counseling to associates regarding job performance, methods of performing job tasks. Resolves associate relations issues that arise in assigned functional area. Responsible for hiring, compensation, discipline and terminations of hourly associates in assigned department. Investigates operational errors to determine the cause and recommends corrective action where needed.
+ 15% Drives Results: Maintains inventory accuracy and control; reviews reports identifies area of improvement for key metrics inclouding productivity, accuracy, quality and expenses.
+ 15% Business Planning: Coordinats and monitors operations with the functional area to ensure performance production rates are consistent with business plan and pattern, reducing irregularities and damages. Reviews reports and business metrics to analyze and plan staffing needs for optimimum department operations.
+ Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assisgned by Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager or General Manager.
**Direct Manager/Direct Reports:**
+ This position typically reports to the Operations Manager.
+ This position is accountable for the direct supervision of the work activities of others. Planning, monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required. This may include direct supervision of a shift or the coordination of multiple work groups. Makes recommendations concerning selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development.
**Travel Requirements:**
+ Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.

DC Support Supervisors are primarily responsible to fill vacant supervisor positions at Distribution Centers and Service Centers through the ABF system, as assigned by the Manager of Relief Supervision. The DC Support Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring all DC and service center operations are performed according to Company procedures, standards, and specifications during shift coverage. This position supervises all activities of DC and service center employees and provides support to the personnel engaged in loading and unloading activities. You will be a very integral part of the ABF team system-wide, and please note that there could be up to 25% travel.
General description of duties:
* Have a basic understanding of Inbound, Outbound or City operational systems/processes.
* Plan, supervise, and control available resources associated with the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on assigned shifts.
* Foster safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage of hazardous materials.

* Provide on-site planning and supervision, as well as demonstrate control of available resources associated with the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on all shifts at assigned service centers within a region

* Maintain appropriate load plans and ensure proper load balance for safe vehicle operation
* Assign tasks to employees; coordinate work assignments and monitor performance
* Provide training, performance feedback, and disciplinary recommendations, as needed
* Ensure a clean, safe working environment for all personnel and customers
* Demonstrate knowledge of the ABF operation, system, and procedures, as well as the CBA
* Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment
* Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals
* Complete special assignments as directed by the Manager of Relief Supervision and the Director of Service Center Operations
* Other duties and projects, as assigned
Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's degree, preferred.
* Experience: Supervisory, terminal, transportation, and/or other related experience, preferred. General knowledge of freight, imports, exports, and proper freight handling techniques, preferred.
* Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Other Requirements: Have a basic understanding of Inbound, Outbound or City operational systems/processes.
* Please note: This position is located at a facility with a 24/7 operation, so candidates must be able to work all shifts including nights and weekends.
