  • Donor Record Maintenance (20%) : Capture and update donor information, including interests, relationships, life events, and philanthropic capacity, in the donor database.
  • Donor Pipeline Development (20%) : Identify mid-level donors with potential for major giving and refer them to the major gift program; steward donors who have reached their maximum giving level.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in donor relations, fundraising, development, sales, or constituent engagement.
  • Experience managing a donor or client portfolio and cultivating ongoing relationships is preferred.
  • Familiarity with donor databases or CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge) is a plus.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization is preferred.
  • Must successfully pass background checks. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record (MVR check) are required.

Position Budgeted: $75,000.00 to $0,000.00 Position Summary The Donor Relations Officer plays a key role in advancing the mission of the Boston Foundation by developing and managing meaningful relationships with current and prospective donors. This role is responsible for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of fundholders, individual donors, and prospects to strengthen long-term community investment. Charged with being an ambassador for the Foundation and its Campaign for a Greater Boston, the Donor Relations Officer focuses on the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of individual donors, ensuring a personalized and strategic donor experience. This role will also coordinate the Foundation’s work with corporate fundholders. This position will contribute towards the Boston Foundation’s ambitious goals under the Campaign for A Greater Boston to inspire and align the community and its many resources in support of achieving equity for Greater Boston residents. The Campaign focuses on building the Boston Foundation’s discretionary endowment, expanding the Annual Fund for Civic Leadership, and growing our base of Donor Advised Fund program to increase alignment with Foundation goals within the wider donor community. With success in this campaign, the Boston Foundation will foster transformative community impact through priorities aligned with its new, equity-centered vision. Essential Functions Develop and manage a portfolio of 50-75 individual donors and prospects to enhance engagement and increase philanthropic investments and aligned giving; Create and implement individualized cultivation and stewardship plans to encourage DAF growth, encourage co-investments and encourage aligned giving; Build trusted, mission-aligned relationships through one-on-one meetings, personalized engagement, and tailored communication; Develop and implement a strategic approach to engage and steward corporate donors and fundholders; Partner with donors to identify charitable goals and connect them to community needs and funding opportunities; Work closely with program staff to align donor interests with community priorities and grantmaking opportunities; Identify and qualify new fund holders to build a strong pipeline of aligned donors; Participate in the planning and execution of donor engagement events, site visits, and community briefings; Solicit for the Annual Fund for Civic Leadership and other co-investment opportunities; Work cross-departmentally to resolve and/or develop creative solutions to fund and grant issues and donor requests; and Maintain a high standard of donor data integrity, documenting all interactions and strategies in Salesforce database. Shorter University is seeking a Christ-centered, goal-oriented fundraising professional to serve as Donor Relations Officer. Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, this role is responsible for personally engaging donors, managing a portfolio, and increasing financial support for the University.

This position is ideal for a relational self-starter who thrives on meaningful interaction, mission-aligned work, and clear outcomes. The Donor Relations Officer will play a key role in cultivating and stewarding donor relationships while supporting fundraising efforts across academics, arts, athletics, and other institutional priorities that advance Shorter's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and actively manage a dynamic portfolio of qualified donors and prospects, with the goal of completing regular outreach and stewardship to build long-term philanthropic relationships.
  • Initiate and conduct regular personal visits with alumni, parents, friends, and community stakeholders to solicit gifts and deepen engagement.
  • Participate in fundraising campaigns, including but not limited to initiatives related to academics, arts, annual giving, and athletics.
  • Support the execution of fundraising events by contributing to planning meetings, coordinating donor outreach, and engaging in donor interaction during events
  • Prepare clear, compelling proposals, donor communications, and impact reports.
  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities aligned with institutional needs.
  • Submit regular progress updates, including donor activity metrics and fundraising outcomes.
  • Represent Shorter University with integrity, warmth, and a deep commitment to Christian values.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as needed to support the University's mission and fundraising goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, ministry, or other relationship-driven roles.
  • High energy, self-motivated, and mission-driven.
  • Some travel required; occasional evening and weekend work expected in support of events and donor engagements held outside standard office hours.
  • Must be a committed Christian whose character and conduct reflect the mission of Shorter University.

Charged with being an ambassador for the Foundation and its Campaign for a Greater Boston, the Donor Relations Officer focuses on the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of individual donors, ensuring a personalized and strategic donor experience. This role will also coordinate the Foundation’s work with corporate fundholders. This position will contribute towards the Boston Foundation’s ambitious goals under the Campaign for A Greater Boston to inspire and align the community and its many resources in support of achieving equity for Greater Boston residents. The Campaign focuses on building the Boston Foundation’s discretionary endowment, expanding the Annual Fund for Civic Leadership, and growing our base of Donor Advised Fund program to increase alignment with Foundation goals within the wider donor community. With success in this campaign, the Boston Foundation will foster transformative community impact through priorities aligned with its new, equity-centered vision. Essential Functions: Develop and manage a portfolio of 50-75 individual donors and prospects to enhance engagement and increase philanthropic investments and aligned giving; Create and implement individualized cultivation and stewardship plans to encourage DAF growth, encourage co-investments and encourage aligned giving; Build trusted, mission-aligned relationships through one-on-one meetings, personalized engagement, and tailored communication; Develop and implement a strategic approach to engage and steward corporate donors and fundholders; Partner with donors to identify charitable goals and connect them to community needs and funding opportunities; Work closely with program staff to align donor interests with community priorities and grantmaking opportunities; Identify and qualify new fund holders to build a strong pipeline of aligned donors; Participate in the planning and execution of donor engagement events, site visits, and community briefings; Solicit for the Annual Fund for Civic Leadership and other co-investment opportunities; Work cross-departmentally to resolve and/or develop creative solutions to fund and grant issues and donor requests; and Maintain a high standard of donor data integrity, documenting all interactions and strategies in Salesforce database. Qualifications Preparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; Advanced degree, CAP and/or CFRE a plus; At least 5 years related fundraising and/or donor relations experience. Position Summary: Reporting to the SVP of Development, The Donor Relations Coordinator is a key Development team member who ensures an exceptional donor experience by managing gift-related inquiries, processing tax receipts, and supporting donor stewardship efforts. As the primary point of contact for donor requests, this role works closely with the fundraising team to ensure timely and thoughtful communication, accurate gift records, and seamless donor engagement.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for donor inquiries via phone and email
  • Respond to questions regarding donations, tax receipts, and gift adjustments
  • Resend tax receipts and acknowledgment letters as needed
  • Ensure donor records are accurately maintained in the CRM (Raiser's Edge)
  • Collaborate with the finance and development teams to verify gift records
  • Inform fundraisers if donors in their portfolio reach out with inquiries
  • Work closely with the development team to support donor stewardship and recognition efforts
  • Maintain up-to-date donor records to enhance relationship-building efforts
  • Help coordinate donor communication efforts, ensuring consistency and accuracy
  • Assist with donor mailings, invitations, and engagement initiatives
  • Support donor appreciation efforts, including thank-you calls and personalized acknowledgments
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned
Required Skills/Competency:
  • 2+ years of experience in donor relations, customer service, or nonprofit administration
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a donor-first mindset
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Experience with donor databases (Raiser's Edge) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to handle sensitive donor information with discretion and professionalism
