OPPORTUNITY:

The Early Learning Coach Specialist provides direct services to the childcare provider community. The primary goal of these services is to support providers in becoming licensed, assist them in building strong business and ECE practices, and help them improve the quality of childcare. Additionally, to support licensed childcare providers with their childcare-related questions and needs. The Early Learning Coach Specialist is a member of the Early Learning Services Department and reports to the assigned supervisor. The Specialist participates as an active team member, setting goals and deciding how to accomplish the department's work. The Early Learning Coach Specialist has a direct impact on the quality of childcare facilities in King and Pierce Counties by utilizing the statewide Quality Recognition and Improvement System (Early Achievers) and providing pre-licensing support. The Specialist role entails providing on-site, distance practice-based, and transformational coaching to center and family-home-based childcare programs serving children ages 0-12 in King and Pierce Counties. Specialists collaborate with childcare center administrators and family childcare providers to develop quality improvement goals, model and support best practices in early childhood education and management, and facilitate professional development objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities of the Early Learning Coach Specialist include, but may not be limited to:

  • Assist licensed centers and family childcare providers in entering the WA State Early Achievers Quality Recognition Improvement System.
  • Provide anti-racist, culturally relevant, and inclusive assistance in person to licensed childcare facilities throughout King and Pierce Counties, as well as by phone, email, and other remote delivery systems.
  • Provide technical assistance and group learning experiences (GLE) on topics related to the Early Achievers quality standards and program assessment tools used in the quality improvement process, general business practices, navigating licensing requirements, use of technology, electronic attendance, grant, and program handbook support, etc. to help them prepare for the quality recognition process.
  • Manage a caseload to include directors and family childcare providers to develop, implement, and evaluate quality improvement plans and goals.
  • Model respect for providers, their cultural practices, and ECE best practices always.
  • Provide documentation of all technical assistance and coaching activities through web-based computer software programs.
  • Provide direct support to providers via the Provider Phone Line as assigned.
  • Submit complete and accurate documentation in a regular and timely manner.
  • Participate in regular team, program, and agency meetings.
  • Participate in training and other professional development activities required by BrightSpark.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and 3 years of related work experience or a Master of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and 2 years of related job experience. In exceptional situations, 5-6 years of early childhood experience will be considered instead of education.

Desired Qualifications

  • Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish or Somali languages.
  • Coursework, formal training in culturally appropriate anti-bias practice and theory, and a commitment to continued professional development in this area.
  • Ability to facilitate reflective practice sessions with early learning professionals.

**Job Description**
HCC's Early Learning Center provides full-day and half-day preschool for two-, three-, and four-year-olds. The Early Learning Center Teacher leads students in class activities that foster the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child; assesses progression; provides additional assistance when needed; maintains a safe, clean environment that meets HCC standards and OCC regulations; and completing required documentation and paperwork.

**Department Summary**
Vanderbilt University Medical Center Child and Family Centers offer early childhood care and education for the children of VUMC employees. The childcare program serves children, from six weeks old to age 5. The centers are licensed by the Tennessee Department of Human Services. The Child and Family Centers provide quality care and education in a safe, nurturing and engaging environment. We have four locations that provide services to Vanderbilt Medical Center's employees:

The Associate Early Learning Teacher supports all classrooms in promoting academic, social-emotional growth and development of children and of partnerships with parents/child's caregivers to engage and encourage parent participation in program with minimal guidance. The Associate Early Learning Teacher assists in age-appropriate curriculum and activities to nurture and stimulate all domains of children's development in their care and provides a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children's learning and growth. They also maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/ caregivers a plan and implement support for nutrition routines. The Associate Early Learning Teacher will provide attentive supervision of children.

PAY:  $10-11 an hour  


PURPOSE

The teacher’s assistant is responsible for maintaining a warm, healthy environment to promote the total growth and well-being of the children in the early education program.  The teacher assistant shares with the teacher in the responsibility of nurturing each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth.  The teacher’s assistant has the responsibility to assist the teacher as a team member in the daily operation of their classroom by maintaining quality early childhood education and care for all participants and insuring compliance in all state regulations and DOD Standards. 

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Program and Services Management 

  1. Assist the teacher in implementation of daily schedule/curriculum with attention to the needs of the children, including quality, health, safety, and cleanliness of environment beyond minimum regulations and requirements.   
  2. Inform the teacher immediately when social, mental health, educational or medical services appear necessary for any child in the classroom. 
  3. Maintain nurturing and responsive interactions with children. 
  4. Maintain open parent communications including individual or group meetings. 
  5. Allow flexibility in your position and schedule to ensure quality care. 
  6. Be prepared to participate in all children’s activities, which include but are not limited to classroom activities, field trips, outdoor play, swim, gym, and family or special organizational events. 
  7. Lead by example; encourage classroom success through modeling positive behaviors.  
  8. Resolve conflicts when necessary to ensure a positive experience for everyone and in cooperation with the procedures established by the teacher.  

Program Tracking 

  1. Maintain correct statistical data, forms and files on students, when directed by teacher. 
  2. Facility Management 
  3. Maintain appropriate classroom hygiene and cleanliness standards- which includes daily cleaning of toys and surfaces. 
  4. Inform teacher of new equipment needs, maintenance requests and safety concerns. 
  5. Maintain a healthy classroom environment by monitoring the safety and security of the children. 
  6. Monitor and provide suggestions to assure playground and classrooms are maintained to the highest standards.  
  7. Attend staff and training meetings requested by the teacher. 
  8. Ensures supplies are requested to teacher in a timely manner 
  9. Report unsafe conditions to teacher.  Immediately correct condition, if possible. 
  10. Other Duties as assigned by supervisors 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs. 
  2. Physical demands are the ability bend and stretch and be on your feet for long periods of time. 
  3. Qualifications: 
  4. Understand hiring is on a trial basis for 6 months and then to be re-evaluated to see if all requirements are being met. 
  5. Must successfully complete all required training and certification required by the ASYMCA and DOD guidelines 
  6. Must successfully pass all background checks to include Installation Record Check, State Check, Fingerprint, CNACI.   
  7. Very good organizational and time management skills. 
  8. Must have a positive attitude. 
  9. Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. 

POST HIRE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Pass and maintain background check requirements as directed by the Armed Services YMCA and DOD 
  2. Complete Armed Services YMCA new hire training. 
  3. Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Teacher is responsible for the planning, developing, and implementation of classroom activities. This position requires face-to-face leadership in this program and may involve early morning responsibilities. This position will be Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plans and leads daily lesson plans
  • Organizes and participates in games and activities
  • Provides weekly lesson plans to parents
  • Provides each participant's parent with information on individual activities on a daily basis
  • Prepares materials for daily activities
  • Maintains records of attendance and arrival and departure times
  • Maintains supervision of children
  • Conducts parent-teacher conferences at least annually
  • Maintains the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom
  • Disciplines children and recommends or initiates other measures to control behavior
  • Handles parent concerns

Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids


COMPENSATION

$16.43 - $20.54 ; Full Time; Non-Exempt (40 hours/week)

Requirements:

KNOW HOW

Infant Toddler CDA credential from an accredited college or Associates/Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education is required for this position. If you are interested in obtaining a certification with support of the YMCA to qualify you for this role, please indicate so on your application. Three to six months childcare related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Ability and desire to work with and care for infants, toddler, and preschool children. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications.


CERTIFICATIONS

  • Blood Borne Pathogen training
  • CPR Certification required within the first 60 days
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
  • Fingerprinting
  • DHS clearance
