KCI's Ecological Restoration and Resilience practice is seeking a motivated Senior Project Engineer to lead designs and support our growing team. Our practice is looking for individuals with experience in ecological restoration design, budget management, staff development, client interaction and project management for public and private sector clients. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with on site work Tuesday through Thursday in our Sparks, MD headquarters or in Fulton, MD office.

- In a supervisory capacity plans, develops, coordinates, and directs several large and important projects or a project of major scope and importance.
- Potential to manage 1 to 3 direct reports.
- Assists in proposals, negotiations, and presentations.
- Work with all departments within the company to develop client relationships that lead to sustainable profitable revenue.
- Lead geomorphological assessments including non-datum survey; photo documentation; and sediment sampling.
- Develop conceptual designs and reports articulating alternatives and reflecting them via ArcGIS, MicroStation, or AutoCAD.
- Estimate credits based on the Bay Protocols for Urban Stream Restoration.
- Estimate functional feet and buffer credits using the Maryland Stream Mitigation Framework.
- Develop detailed engineering stream restoration designs including plans, reports, specifications, engineer's estimate.
- Oversee construction and post construction performance monitoring with associated asbuilt and monitoring report development.
- Use analytical skills necessary to solve complex problems both in a team setting and individually.
- Functioning efficiently with minimal guidance will be expected. Independent work, organizational ability, regular communication, and time management skills are required for this position.
Additional Qualification Details
- Minimum of 6 years professional experience related to ecological restoration and stream assessment for natural and urbanized channels required
- A demonstrated understanding of fluvial geomorphology principles and processes and restoration methodologies for freshwater and tidal ecosystems required
- Experience performing geomorphic assessments and restoration design in the Mid-Atlantic required
- Ability to organize and write technical assessment and design reports documenting approach, findings, and recommendations required
- Ability to perform and document computations to inform and validate designs is required
- Proficiency in MicroStation or AutoCAD including ability to build 3D surfaces of existing and proposed conditions
- Ability to prepare engineer's cost estimates and specifications required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required
- Ability to work in a team environment, with individuals in other geographies is a prerequisite of this opportunity.
- Ability to travel to job sites and perform field work in various weather conditions is required.
- Ability to perform Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) analysis using TR-55 and TR-20; and 1D and 2D HEC-RAS or other programs accepted by regulatory agencies preferred

The Ecological Restoration Team is a growing group of eight individuals who share a deep love and respect for the natural world and find joy in working with community members to identify and implement projects that restore the conditions for thriving ecosystems and diverse communities. With a wide array of lived experience and unique skills, the team is an open and curious group of professionals who support one another and are the staff members most likely to show up in the office covered in mud. The Position
The New York Ecological Restoration Program Director will lead the expansion of Save the Sound's ecological restoration work in Westchester County, the Bronx, Queens, and Long Island, building on the organization's existing relationships, reputation, and track record of completed projects. This individual will work with other members of leadership to craft and execute a strategy to expand the Ecological Restoration team's physical, tangible, on-the-ground projects in Westchester County and New York. The New York Ecological Restoration Program Director will be responsible for developing a pipeline of restoration projects while supporting Project Manager(s) to ensure that active projects are progressing through planning, design and construction.
This position will be supervised by the Senior Director of Ecological Restoration and be based out of Save the Sound's office in Larchmont, NY and will work closely with the rest of the Ecological Restoration Team, Water Quality Team and other programs.
- PROJECT IDENTIFICATION & PLANNING
- Lead in the identification, assessment, and pursuit of project opportunities for the Ecological Restoration team in New Projects typically include, but are not limited to, coastal restoration and resiliency, river restoration through aquatic connectivity, watershed planning, green infrastructure, and environmental stewardship.
- In collaboration with the development team, identify and write grant proposals to fund new projects and assist with execution of the annual development plan to support meeting the annual organizational and program goals, such as drafting content for grant and private funding proposals and attending donor events.
- Research historical and current watershed-based work in the Long Island Sound watershed in New York, and develop relationships with watershed representatives within Westchester County, the Bronx, Queens and Nassau
- Work closely with Save the Sound's Water Quality team to identify potential abatement of hotspots found by water quality monitoring
- Work with the members of leadership to prioritize projects with the highest ecological significance and/or highest environmental justice
- PROJECT DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION
- Manage highly complex projects and oversee NY's applied ecological restoration work. Support NY project managers to lead the design and implementation of ecological restoration projects in New York, including (but not limited to) coastal resilience, aquatic connectivity (like dam removals and culvert right-sizing), watershed planning, and green
- Providing technical guidance and support to assist team members in procuring regulatory permits, overcoming obstacles, and addressing questions from the team as well as project partners, consultants, and contractors.
- Monitor trends and best practices in ecological restoration and seek opportunities to advocate for regional adoption of processes and best practices to streamline restoration implementation.

- Working knowledge of environmental permitting at local, state, and federal levels (New York experience preferred);

This is an at-will, full-time, salaried, exempt position. The salary range is $85,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with skills and experience. **AECOM's** San Diego Natural Resources group is actively seeking an ecological restoration crew member for full-time employment. The candidate will support numerous projects in the southern California region, and report to the Field Director formally with day to day supervision from the Crew Leader.
**Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:**
+ Under the direction of the Crew Leader and Field Director, provide field labor for all aspects of habitat restoration including but not limited to nonnative species control (manual, mechanical, and chemical), native seed application and container plant installation and maintenance, construction and maintenance of temporary irrigation systems, and erosion control.
+ Act as back-up for the Crew Leader in his/her absence.
+ Work on complex projects with support and guidance from the Field Director and Crew Leader.
+ Maintain the Annex (National City) and Clover Flat (Campo) facilities - e.g., irrigation, climate control, and security systems.
+ Maintain seed cleaning and other equipment.
+ Maintenance of Qualified Applicator Certificate.
+ Consult with supervisor about unusual problems and developments.

+ Majority of daily tasks require moving and working in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, variable outdoor conditions including heat, dusts, chemicals, moisture, and dryness.
+ Position requires frequently lifting, carrying, and loading equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. such as extinguishers, Indian pumps and small power equipment without assistance and up to 50lbs. with assistance.
+ Often performing repetitive bending & stooping, power gripping/squeezing to perform maintenance tasks and operating equipment.
+ Position requires wearing personal protective equipment, including safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hat, hearing protection and face shield.
**Preferred Skills/Experience:**
+ Experience with electronic data collection devices.
+ CPR/First Aid certified.
+ English/Spanish bilingual.
+ Operation of specialized equipment such as bulldozers.
+ Excellent work ethic and team-player attitude. Ability to lead, as needed.
+ Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to follow specific instructions.
+ Ability to effectively express his or herself orally to other project staff.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $19.57/hour - $4.24/hour.
