Purpose of the role

Provide technical EHS support, advise on technical EHS matters, and complete complex EHS initiatives for an operational sub-region in delivering against Sims EHS policy, strategies, plans, and goals.

• This job requires frequent daily travel to visit Sims Metal's facility at 21 Japhet Street Houston Texas 77020.

Principal Accountabilities

• Support the implementation and operational understanding of EHS policy and processes
• Provide analysis and insight to facilitate learning and decision-making around health and safety of workers and protection of the environment
• Build and maintain trust-based relationships with all levels in order to facilitate the delivery of EHS objectives and goals
• Understand how work is done in the front-line and across an operational sub-region, including adaptations made to cater for contexts such as goal conflicts use this knowledge to advise on risk controls and procedures
• Work with operations on the effective implementation and use of EHS tools such as Critical Control Verification and Risk Assessment
• Support the development of EHS tools such as unit-specific Standards, Training material, Job Safety Analysis, and Safe Work Procedures
• Support the investigation of significant EHS non-conformances or incidents, and identify and communicate corrective actions
• Provide insight on process hazards and risk rating on incidents, Safe Work Procedures, and Job Safety Analysis.
• Facilitate learning and improvement from significant EHS events
• Work with Operations and Environmental personnel to understand community impacts and look for opportunities for improved environmental protection
• Participate in applicable internal and external audits and provide guidance on corrective actions Support the facilitation of EHS training
• Liaison with regulatory representatives and provide support during inspections or investigations when required.
• Take part in and provide support to local EHS committees
• Provide EHS information to customers and vendors as requested
• Provide subject matter expertise to stakeholder audits where required

• Lead site-specific / technical training development and implementation where needed

Experience using SQL to troubleshoot problems, create dashboards, and test new development.

Experience resolving information management system issues.

Basic understanding of applicable local, state, and federal HSE regulations.

Preferred experience with Intelex, but proficiency with other HSE software such as Enablon, Cority, or similar systems will also be considered.

Skilled in Microsoft 365 software applications.

Experience with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI, Spotfire, Tableau, etc., preferred.

Demonstrates strong written and oral communication skills.

Effective in training development and skilled in presentation.

+ Install, repair, and inspect smoke and fire suppression systems.
+ Inspect, test and repair fire alarm wiring, fire alarm panels and peripheral equipment.
+ Identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
+ Inspect, repair or replace smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler heads.
+ Repair and test wet/dry systems; test fire alarm system devices using appropriate diagnostic programs and test equipment.
+ Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes.
+ Read, interpret, and apply system design plans and building construction drawings and documents.
+ Perform true test smoke detector sensitivity procedure.
+ Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is required.

REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must have an active Secret clearance and be eligible for upgrade to TS/SCI with Poly level clearance.

+ Certified in Fire Protection Systems from a jurisdiction within the US and requisite experience (or equivalent and approved by the customer)

**Job Overview:**
APTIM is seeking a highly experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Subject Matter Expert (SME) with 10+ years of proven expertise in environmental compliance, air permitting, and regulatory strategy. This key role supports both internal teams and external clients as part of APTIM's broader initiative to expand its consultancy services in EHS, Sustainability, and Environmental Social Governance (ESG) digital transformation.
The ideal candidate will bring deep experience serving clients in oil and gas, power generation, and manufacturing sectors, with a strong track record in developing and managing air permitting documents--including Title V, New Source Review, and Permits by Rule--as well as compiling regulatory compliance reports such as annual emissions inventories and Title V, NSPS, and NESHAP reports. The candidate will also provide H&S domain expertise on client projects.
This individual will serve as a technical leader, trusted client advisor, and key contributor to the evolution of APTIM's environmental and ESG-focused service offerings.
**Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:**
+ Lead and support APTIM's internal and external projects within the EHS and Air/GHG/Water/Waste domains including project planning, staffing, budgeting, and execution
+ Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead business analyst for projects involving advanced configuration of industry-leading EHS platforms (e.g., Cority, Enablon, Intelex, Sphera, Velocity)
+ Collaborate on solution design by analyzing client business needs, evaluating competing configuration strategies, and contributing to detailed system design documentation
+ Manage or perform system setup, report creation, and data migration tasks
+ Ensure quality project delivery through system testing, internal reviews, and oversight of client acceptance testing; contribute to internal technical standards and best practices
+ Design and deliver client training, including the development of tailored training materials for system users
+ Provide post-deployment support, data management, and technical troubleshooting
+ Oversee regulatory compliance for permitting and emissions, including preparing permit applications and reports, evaluating regulatory applicability, and conducting Air/GHG/Water/Waste impact analyses
+ Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and clients to ensure full compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local environmental regulations
+ Offer subject matter support to project teams across disciplines and business units

**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field
+ Professional certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer) are strongly preferred
+ 10--20+ years of progressive experience in Air Quality, Environmental Compliance, EHS Consulting, or related disciplines
+ In-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations, including OSHA, TCEQ, NSPS, NESHAPS, and USEPA standards; familiarity with Subparts and Tank standards, operating requirements, associated reporting obligations, and other areas

+ Proficiency in project support and reporting tools such as ArcGIS, BEEST, TRI-ME, SQL, Oracle, Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, Tableau, CRM systems Zendesk and Salesforce
+ Skilled in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and time/expense tracking systems
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision

ERM  is hiring an on-site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Consultant to support a key technology client’s data center in Lancaster, Texas . 

The ideal candidate will have experience developing and supporting the implementation of OSHA requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, Job Hazard Analysis/ Risk Assessments, Emergency Response Plans, Behavioral Safety Programs, and Contractor Safety Management.  Candidates should also have familiarity with data center safety requirements.  This is a full-time (40 hours a week), limited-term role for a duration of 1 year, renewable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform health and safety assessments and inspections in accordance with corporate EHS  programs and applicable regulations, including emergency response; chemical management; incident management; walking/working surfaces; powered industrial vehicles (i.e. powered pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.); mobile elevating work platforms; fall protection; crane safety; confined space safety; hot work; permit to work systems; personal protective equipment; tools & machinery; electrical safety; ergonomics; extreme working temperatures; laser safety.
• Provide technical assistance on EHS compliance and EHS management system projects on a range of areas such as chemical safety, machine guarding, laser safety, robotics safety, hazardous materials use/storage/waste, EHS auditing.
• Perform environmental inspections in accordance with the site’s permits and local, regional, and federal requirements, including but not limited to air, stormwater, waste, and other land or environmental control equipment inspections.
• Support our clients’ desire to improve safety performance by providing training, field coaching, and targeted EHS assessments.
• Develop and implement EHS compliance procedures, plans, permits, and reports.
• Manage tasks within the assigned scope/budget/schedule and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
• Build client relationships and nurture repeat business by continuously striving to exceed their expectations.
• Support ERM Partners and Project Managers to effectively manage and deliver projects.
• Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's in safety, occupational health, engineering, or related discipline preferred.
• At least 2 years of applicable experience providing EHS support with an emphasis on health and safety.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Experience working in High Tech, Power, Pharmaceutical or chemical sector environments preferred.
• Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
• Ability to succeed in a fast-paced customer environments, handling multiple assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and being able to re-prioritize tasks as-needed.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
