**JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE** :
Working within Entergy's Safety Rules, perform routine & emergency maintenance and repairs on substation equipment.
**JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES** :
+ Perform diagnostic testing of substation equipment; breakers, transformers, batteries, cables, etc. Perform substation switching and grounding procedures.
+ Perform construction activities of installing all substation equipment. Perform inspections of substation equipment. Install, maintain, repair, operate and remove switching station and substation equipment.
+ Maintain switching stations, substation buildings, structures and grounds, including customers' installations. Inspect, adjust, maintain, test, repair or replace all types of circuit breakers and gang operated disconnecting switches, batteries, power transformers, power rectifiers, and station type regulators.
+ Perform wiring and maintenance work in substations.
**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** :
**Minimum education required of the position**
HS Diploma or equivalent or Associate's Degree preferred (or equivalent work experience).
**Minimum experience required of the position**
Substation Mechanic I: Without Associate's Degree: 0-2 years. With Associate's Degree: 0-1 years.
Substation Mechanic II: Without Associates Degree: 2-4 years. With Associates Degree: 1-3 years.
Substation Mechanic III-Sr: Without Associates Degree: 4+ years. With Associates Degree: 3+ years.
**Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position**
+ Understanding of mechanical concepts and good mechanical skills
+ Able to read and understand the following: electrical one-line, schematic and wiring diagrams; technical manuals and instruction books; mechanical and civil construction drawings
+ Ability to understand technical manuals and instruction books
+ Completion of the necessary training modules as set forth by the Safety and Training department. Must be available for 24 hour call out and extended hours as necessary
+ Knowledgeable in MS Office skills.
+ Dependable and reliable, and able to work as a member of a team.
+ Self-motivated with ability to make decisions.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills
+ Desired: Experience in Substation maintenance and construction preferred.
**Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position**
+ Must have or be able to obtain a CDL operator's license and be able to operate all vehicles and equipment in the department
+ Must be EEI CAST Test recommended
+ Desired: DOT medical certification

What does this role look like?
• Link all electronics units together and verify end-to-end functional and test capabilities.
Key activities you will accomplish in this role:
• Perform signal tracing from box to box, including polarity and direction verification.
• Review ICDs (Interface Control Documents) and IDDs (Interface Design Descriptions) to ensure proper communication between hardware/software elements.
• Have strong understanding of system-level requirements and how they flow down to inter-box requirements.
• Validate that inter-box implementation aligns with both requirements and architecture.
• Develop/analyze/verify system level requirements and document & manage accordingly.
• Coordinate with customer and other contractors to execute verification analyses and tests.

- Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to a team of electrical engineers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software, and project management, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Conduct feasibility studies, conceptual designs, and technology evaluations for new power system applications.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC), and client requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical system issues and develop effective solutions.
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property and technical publications.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in electrical power systems engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of power system analysis, protection, control, and grid integration.
- Proficiency with advanced power system simulation software.
- Strong understanding of power generation, transmission, and distribution principles.
