The Mechanical Products Team (MPT), Shipboard Effectors Department is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer for our Louisville KY site in both development and production support across multiple programs. This position is in Louisville, KY (on-site) This Principal Mechanical Engineering position performs in alignment to expectations in the design, development and production support areas associated with mechanical designs, validation principals, qualification processes, procurement, and production processes across a design life cycle. Development work may include requirements understanding, concept development, DFMAs, PFMAs, margin analysis, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principals, engineering test principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presentations in design reviews. What You Will Do Preparation of technical documents and presenting in design reviews. Be seen as a Subject Matter Expert for Mechanical Design issues providing mentorship, development and review of lower-level Engineer’s work. Strong collaboration and communication skills in working with the Chief Engineer, team leaders, and peers. Developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle including design, manufacture, integration and test and design solutions for multiple systems. Meet cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product. Coordinate with other disciplines in the development of design verification test plans, qualification test plans, and producible designed Occasional travel to suppliers may be required to resolve production issues, technical performance issues or attend critical program engineering reviews. Qualifications You Must Have Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering disciplines 10 years of professional experience in mechanical design or related industry Experience in managing Engineers Experience with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. Job Description
Utilize your mechanical engineering expertise to design and develop products, as well as implement product changes and enhancements, in alignment with design standards and workflows. Collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team to innovate and verify new components and designs.
Responsibilities
+ Develop plans and execute structural and mechanical testing for components on new and current designs.
+ Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, production, and product development engineers to design, simulate, and verify new components and designs.
+ Conduct validation tests to ensure product quality and maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs, calculations, drawings, and processes.
+ Ensure new products meet functional and non-functional specifications, including safety, performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
+ Troubleshoot operational issues and devise both short-term and long-term remedies.
+ Identify and act on opportunities for continuous improvement.
+ Travel to customer sites to commission pre-production tests or troubleshoot technical issues, with travel required less than 10% of the time.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in design tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
+ Strong mechanical engineering and new product development skills.
+ Experience in mechanical and structural testing, validation testing, and FEA analysis.
+ Ability to perform calculations and simulations, particularly with structural steel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ R&D experience, with a focus on development.
+ Ability to set up and run test benches for new products.
+ Minimal FEA work, primarily sending information to the simulation team and reviewing results.
Work Environment
Join a growing department that is essential for new product development. Enjoy a flexible work schedule with options to work 4x10 hour days, 4x9 and a half day on Friday, or 5x8 hour shifts. The current team consists of a manager, one designer, and one engineer, with plans to add one to two more members.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $8000.00 - $11000.00/yr.
