Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Project Engineering Geologist to join its collaborative team in Irvine, CA or Los Angeles, CA. This individual will serve a key function in providing the scope and execution of field investigations, identifying geological hazards, and working with engineers to provide geologic support with respect to impact of site geologic conditions to site structures. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic group of engineering professions on a wide variety of challenging project sites.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop scope and execute field investigations;
  • Work with engineers to provide geologic support with respect to impact of site geologic conditions to site structures;
  • Develop geologic cross sections, geologic maps, and other pertinent figures for project reports;
  • Identify and implement field and lab work solutions;
  • Identify and characterize geologic hazards in the field;
  • Research and compile geologic data for projects;
  • Assist in training staff and quality control of staff work;
  • Prepare and review logs and reports;
  • Interact with clients and contractors;
  • Manage projects and budgets; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology; MS preferred;
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license registration; Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) preferred;
  • 6+ years of experience in the field of engineering geology;
  • Experience with geologic hazard investigations, with emphasis on landslide, A-P fault rupture evaluations and rockfall projects;
  • Experience with performing detailed geologic mapping at a professional level;
  • Experience with reviewing and interpreting stereo-paired aerial photographs;
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical details to clients, co-workers, and staff;
  • Excellent written communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing.

Responsibilities of the role will include:
  • Perform geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards and site characterization;
  • Provide support on the design and installation of ground water wells and geotechnical instrumentation (VWP's, inclinometers, transducers, etc.);
  • Provide interpretation of site conditions including: geologic, geochemical, and geophysical data and preparing geotechnical and geologic reports;
  • Developing geologic models for complex geologic site conditions;
  • Conducting geologic research, and developing innovative ways to advance projects with the latest technologies;
  • Performing liaison activities with regulatory agencies (local, state, and federal agencies) on behalf of our clients;
  • Collaborating with geotechnical and structural engineers to develop robust dam designs.
  • Assisting in the preparation of project documentation including reports, project communications, and design drawings and report figures that are of a high professional standard.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • BA/BS + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalence of experience and/or education.
  • Valid US Drivers License required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geological Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with complex subsurface investigations including soil and rock core drilling
  • Installation of piezometers and geotechnical instrumentation
  • Willingness to travel regularly for domestic and international projects while conducting physically rigorous field geologic data collection in a variety of extreme terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability to work on multiple project tasks and meet deadlines with aggressive schedules efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and work product quality
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills. Written communication skills in the form of geotechnical/geologic data reporting is necessary.
  • GIT Certification
  • Experience with geotechnical projects including dams, mine tailings dams and water storage dams
  • Analytical skills and knowledge of geological and geotechnical software (i.e., RocScience, Geo-Slope, gINT, etc.

Responsibilities:
+ Hands-on diagnosing, repairing and building of test and manufacturing equipment. Including Temperature Chambers and Temperature Controllers.
+ Operate and repair of vibration and shock systems, electrical testers, laser welders, and other specialized automatic equipment.
