Part Time Temporary 8 hour shift Monday to Friday

The Industrial Hygiene Coordinator supports the development and implementation of programs that minimize employee exposure to chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards. This role is key to ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving a proactive safety culture across all departments.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor workplace environments to assess employee exposure to airborne contaminants, noise, radiation, heat stress, and other occupational hazards

Perform air, noise, and surface sampling; calibrate and maintain industrial hygiene equipment

Maintain records of exposure data, sample logs, and analytical results

Assist with risk assessments and the development of exposure control plans (ECPs)

Participate in investigations related to occupational illness, chemical spills, or exposure events

Provide technical support in the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Support training initiatives on respiratory protection, hazard communication, and industrial hygiene protocols

Ensure compliance with OSHA, ACGIH, NIOSH, and other applicable standards

Collaborate with HSE, engineering, and operations teams to identify and mitigate risks

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field

0–3 years of experience in industrial hygiene, health & safety, or environmental compliance

Basic understanding of IH principles and monitoring techniques

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent documentation and reporting abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Valid driver's license (for site travel, if applicable)

Preferred Certifications (Not Required for Entry-Level)

Certified Industrial Hygienist in Training (CIH-IT) or working toward CIH

Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST)

HAZWOPER or First Aid/CPR

- Reviews compliance/inspection reports, recommends actions to close or address gaps, and monitors progress toward full compliance.
- Completes mandatory reporting requirements, submitting reports timely.

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory (SLAC) is seeking a highly motivated Environmental Geologist/Engineer with experience in environmental investigation, monitoring, remediation, hydrogeology and geologic interpretation to join our Environmental Protection Department. Reporting to SLAC's Environmental Protection Department's Environmental Restoration Group Leader, this position will support onsite soil and groundwater site investigations and monitoring, sediment management, ongoing remediation, and possible future remediation projects. General work tasks may include but not be limited to preparing studies, collecting environmental samples and coordinating with analytical laboratories, performing data analysis, managing consultants, preparing timely and accurate reports and regulatory deliverables, presenting information, and interfacing with others at SLAC. Work also includes support of environmental and construction projects through interpreting subsurface geological, hydrological, geochemical and geophysical data.

Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Under limited supervision, perform moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental disciplines to ensure a safe work environment and to achieve compliance with the university's environmental, health, and safety standards and governmental regulatory requirements.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of employees, the community, and the environment.

  • Act as liaison between the Environmental Protection Department and other SLAC projects and entities in support of geological and environmental investigations.

  • May develop and conduct employee and student training for relevant disciplines.

  • Identify, assess, and monitor environmental hazards that could be present in the work area; recommend improvements to minimize hazard potential.

  • Recommend improvements in processes and procedures.

  • Provide technical advice and interpretation of various government regulations and policies; maintain working knowledge of specific government regulations.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in geology, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or environmental science and three years progressively responsible experience in the environmental geology/engineering/science field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated ability and experience with conducting effective environmental and geological investigations and interpretations, conducting data analyses; ability to provide recommendations for future actions.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing high quality, accurate reports for final defensible documentation and providing the results to SLAC, DOE, Stanford University, regulators, and the public in well-organized presentations.

  • Ability to maintain current knowledge of and interpret specific government agency requirements (statutes, regulations, licenses, and permits) and university policies.

  • Working knowledge of the scientific and technical aspects of various regulatory requirements and potential impact on assigned work area(s)
