Our Yellow Iron Diesel Mechanics perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, primarily including yellow iron machinery, diesel heavy trucks and engines. The Technician or Mechanic is not only responsible for understanding maintenance and breakdown needs and initiating/ assigning necessary repairs, but also must be able to operate the machinery being repaired. At times, the Technician may be on call, and required to assist with emergency breakdowns.

Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.:
  • Maintains advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment (heavy equipment includes but not limited to: yellow iron machinery, tractor trailers, forklifts, and other diesel trucks)
  • Performs repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services.
  • Estimates time and material cost on vehicle repairs and requisition of new parts.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting part usage, and accounting for repair time.
  • Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
  • This position will have no direct reports, however they will work in collaboration with the other yellow iron diesel mechanic on staff, although on different shifts.
  • Assists Sr. Technicians in the completion of project work.

Work Environment

  • Potentially hazardous work environment with many moving parts and machinery; must be alert of surroundings at all times.
  • Only during breakdowns will this position be required to enter transfer station loading/ dumping area.
  • The Yellow Iron Diesel Technician/Mechanic may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent squatting and standing is required.
Requirements and Qualifications::

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver’s license is  required . CDL a plus.
  • At least 5 years   of experience in job duties.
  • Sanitation or construction industry experience a plus.
  • Computer diagnostic experience as diesel technician a plus.
  • Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar.
  • Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues, drivers and dispatch, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
  • Must be able to provide own tools

Traveling Rope Access Level 2/3 Composite Repair Technician
While working under the supervision of a Team Leader, and within the scope of a written Safe Work Plan (aka Job Hazard Analysis), the Composite Repair Technician carries out a wide variety of inspection, maintenance, and repair services in the field setting. Almost universally, the Technician uses related equipment to access and complete work tasks at considerable height. The Technician may also participate in rescue operations, administrative tasks, and customer support. Work hours, locations, shift times, and nature of work assignments are not guaranteed and can vary greatly. Travel is extensive, and time away from home can span several weeks at a time. Safety, integrity, technical capabilities, customer service, and an ability to function effectively in a team environment are essential.
**Major Responsibilities**
+ In accordance with MISTRAS safety procedures, reflects an intense focus on safety, health, and risk management concerns and takes pride in safeguarding self and others during each job assignment.
+ Follows Company policies, procedures and work instructions.

+ Adheres to MISTRAS Access procedures for all projects.

**Minimum Requirements**
+ Current Industrial Rope Access Level 2 or 3 certification, or the ability to obtain one

+ Composite Repair Certification or three (3) or more years of experience performing composite repairs.
+ Experience utilizing patterns, templates, and layouts.
+ Experience working with fiberglass, composites, and other chemicals.
+ Experience grinding with a 4" or 6" angle grinder, and or finishing sanding.
+ Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions, or procedures.
+ Work in a team environment, and ability to work safely at heights.
+ Ability to obtain a rope access certification within 60 days of hire.
+ Communicate effectively with coworkers, customers, supervisors.
+ Completing and submitting various reports in a timely manner.
+ Must maintain any required first-aid, CPR, and AED certification at time of hire or within 60 days thereafter.
+ Able to read, write, and clearly understand the language of the Lab and worksite.
+ Must be technology proficient including but not limited to computers and communication devices. Examples include strong competency with Microsoft Office programs (SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.) and online communication platforms.
+ Must successfully pass MISTRAS required motor vehicle (DMV) check, drug/alcohol test, and a background check.

+ Valid TWIC card and valid Passport as required.
+ High school graduate or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements:
+ Capable of carrying out strenuous, repetitive, or tedious work often in adverse conditions (heat, cold, wind, extreme height, darkness, etc.) and often for extended periods of time.
+ Frequent carrying, pushing, and pulling motions while completing work tasks or managing tools/equipment is to be expected. Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs without assistance.
+ Capable of climbing a 300 foot ladder, unassisted.

You will be responsible for performing a variety of property maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of our properties. Must be flexible and willing to respond to after hour emergency maintenance calls on a rotating basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carpentry: Perform basic woodwork repairs and installations, including doors, frames, and minor construction tasks.

  • Plumbing: Handle minor plumbing repairs and maintenance, such as fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and ensuring proper water flow.

  • Electrical: Conduct basic electrical repairs, including replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures.

  • Painting: Perform interior and exterior painting, including surface preparation and touch-ups.

  • General Property Maintenance: Use hand and power tools for tasks such as appliance installation, moving furniture, assembling equipment, and climbing ladders to access hard-to-reach areas.

  • Vehicle Operation: Drive maintenance vehicles to various job sites as needed.

  • HVAC: Conduct basic HVAC repairs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience or education in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, or related fields (vocational or trade school graduates encouraged to apply).

  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform manual labor.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Willingness to work weekends as needed and be on-call for emergencies.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks efficiently.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no more than three suspensions or points in the past three years).

  • Physical ability to perform job tasks, including lifting between 50 - 100 pounds, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience

What You'll Do:

Work closely with Production Team to ensure quality and productivity objectives are met or exceeded. Conduct routine, extensive, timely preventative maintenance and repair procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems. Work with Plant Manager and Production Team to develop new and creative ideas to improve productivity. Ensure safe practices in performing maintenance and machine operation functions in compliance with Company Safety Policy/Procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment that is down or in need of repair:
    • Perform timely and professional troubleshooting tasks such as Robotic, electrical, mechanical, welding, and pneumatic.
    • Troubleshoot three phase, single phase, PLC controlled equipment, control circuits, motors, VFD's and test fuses as well as troubleshoots apparatuses such as level probes, limit switches, switches, photo eyes and proximity switches.
    • Troubleshoot gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, elevators, gates, fans, dryer, dust collectors, palletizers and baggers. Welding may consist of arc welding steel and the use of a cutting torch. Most welding would be repair welding with some fabricating. Pneumatic maintenance may consist of troubleshooting air compressors, air dryers, air cylinders, air valves and air solenoids.
  • Maintain facility and facility systems: Perform building maintenance and/or repair of building systems. For example, door repair, dock repair, changing light bulbs, minor plumbing, heater repair and changing HVAC filters.
  • Preventive maintenance on all equipment: Need to complete daily, monthly and annual preventative maintenance check lists in a timely manner. Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment in the plant. This may consist of inspecting, greasing, cleaning or repairing production equipment to insure uninterrupted production capability. Checklists may be provided for the minimum amount of preventative maintenance to be performed.
  • Operate appropriate hand and power tools for performing maintenance: Efficiently use wrenches, pliers, socket sets, screwdrivers, punches, hammer, and other hand tools. Operate drills, drill press, and grinders safely and efficiently.
  • Responsible for notifying the designated person to order the parts needed for maintenance: Identify parts needed to repair equipment. For example, sprockets for conveyor or belt size and length needed for conveyor. Must be able to look up parts in machine manuals and identify what is needed for the repair.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times, including an organized parts room. Maintenance personnel will be designated a workbench with tools and will be responsible for the work area and the tools. Leaving tools or debris lying around is unacceptable.
  • Perform maintenance task using appropriate safety equipment and safety procedures (i.e.: lockout tag out, guarding, confined space, use of respirators and fall protection). Maintenance will be required to follow company's lock out tag out policy. Replace all guards before putting a piece of equipment back into service after working on it. Use a respirator in certain location working in the plant. Adhere to the company's policy on fall protection.
  • Provide backup to workers engaged in production, warehousing, inventory management, and shipping as needed to facilitate an accurate order-fulfillment process.
  • Optimize efficiency, productivity, and equipment performance in order to meet objectives. Develop, implement, and verify standard operating procedures (SOP) for all job-related tasks.
  • Ability to be on-call during all production shifts for troubleshooting assistance and be available to travel to plant as needed.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with company employees, suppliers, and customers. Promote and maintain the professional image and reputation of the company and ensure timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Technical knowledge and skills equivalent to a vocational technical degree. Vocational degree/certificate and 3+ years' experience in the manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Strong communication, leadership, math, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Experience and ability to work with machine operators, equipment operators, and plant production workers.
  • Experience with building and property maintenance and understanding of manufacturing equipment and process essential.
  • Mechanically inclined with excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong abilities in planning, organizing, problem solving and multitasking.
  • Welding, electrical and mechanical experience in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to work well with others in a teamwork environment.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and adhere to all the company's safety policy procedures and recommendation.
  • Must be able to become familiar with OSHA, EPA, NEC, and other national and regional codes.
  • Experience with manufacturing/production computerized batching/PLC systems
  • Must be proficient in basic computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
