Industrial Maintenance Technician - Winston-Salem Packaging Solutions
The Opportunity:
As an Industrial Maintenance Technician II, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment. You will also perform mechanical and electrical work under the general supervision of an Industrial Maintenance Technician III. Must have working knowledge and ability to perform all tasks as specified within the Industrial Maintenance Technician I description in addition to those specified within this description as you will support, and guide employees classified as Industrial Maintenance Technician I.
How you will impact Packaging Solutions: a Smurfit WestRock company:
* Understanding and demonstrating the behavior that the safety of yourself and other coworkers is paramount and is the #1 priority here at Smurfit WestRock.
* Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown.
* Inspect mechanical and electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
* Repair as needed mechanical or electrical systems to include repairing or replacing malfunctioning components.
* Repair as needed industrial material handling equipment to include battery operated as well as IC units up to but not including the most complex.
* Repair as needed basic electrical breakdowns.
* Calibrate or adjust electronic equipment or instruments to specifications.
* Install or replace meters, regulators or related measuring control devices.
* Install equipment or attachments as needed on machinery or related structures.
* Understand mechanical drawings with the ability to determine the correct parts needed for repair.
* Understand and use computer software for documenting all daily activity including submitting accurate parts requests.
* Respond to mechanical or basic electrical emergencies during non-standard business hours.
* Responsible for the overall Safety and cleanliness of equipment and area.
* Work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed:
* Proven experience in the mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
* Experience in basic electrical troubleshooting.
* Computer experience/operation.
* Troubleshoot with or up to PLC.
* High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
* Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.
* Must be highly safety conscious.
* High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
* Apply advanced skills in the use of hand tools both powered and manual.
* Set up and operate a variety of machine tools such as drill press, lathe, or welding equipment.
* Operate maintenance vehicles including but not limited to; aerial lifts, personnel transport vehicles, and forklifts.
* Independently perform mechanical maintenance, repair, installation and testing functions on all but the most sophisticated equipment.
* Use electronic calibration devices.
* Use control or regulating devices to adjust or maintain industrial machinery.
* Conduct tests in order to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical equipment.
* Maintain or repair small engines or motors.
* Operate various tools, instruments and equipment used in the testing and repairs of mechanical equipment.
* Repair or replace malfunctioning or worn mechanical equipment.
* Work independently in the absence of supervision.
* Understand and follow oral or written instructions.
* Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Job Description

Join our team and gain hands-on experience maintaining and repairing machinery, equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, and facility structures. We provide training to help you build the skills needed to grow and succeed within our maintenance team. Safety is always a top priority, and you'll work following company and regulatory standards.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on facility machinery, structures, and exterior grounds under the guidance of leadership.
+ Conduct inspections of refrigeration systems under supervision.
+ Maintain material handling equipment per manufacturer and company guidelines to ensure safe, continuous operation.
+ Support other maintenance tasks as assigned.
**Additional Responsibilities:**
+ Operate power tools, welding equipment, and cutting torches to cut or join metal parts.
+ Safely operate, inspect, calibrate, and maintain equipment using motorized lifts or rental equipment as needed.
**Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):**
+ Completion of trade school courses or some experience in building maintenance, material handling equipment maintenance, or refrigeration (ammonia, Freon, or CO2) preferred.
+ Able to perform routine preventative maintenance with guidance.
+ Comfortable using hand and power tools.
+ Basic computer skills.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
+ Ability to communicate and collaborate with team members at all levels.
+ Able to multi-task, prioritize, and stay organized.
+ Able to work in cold storage (-20°F / -25°C) or dry storage (up to 100°F / 37°C) while wearing PPE and freezer gear.
+ Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. (23 kg), with heavier lifting depending on the facility.
+ Flexible to work various shifts, including weekends if needed.
+ Comfortable in varying noise levels; some sites may be loud.
+ Some locations require knowledge and safe practice of working at heights.
