The Applications Engineer will be expected to have a strong technical ability connected to the selection and implementation of Process Burners and adjacent solutions. This role focuses on direct ownership of technical solutions, requiring strong economic thinking skills around marginal analysis and risk evaluation, to develop value proposition and influence key decision makers.

What You Will Do

• Lead formal and informal presentations to progress high level knowledge sharing around technologies and operating practices.

• Engage in discussions with a global customer base to better understand their equipment needs.

• Coordinate with multiple John Zink and Koch Engineered Solutions business offices to find creative solutions that best meet the customer's needs.

• Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to develop the technical and commercial proposal that communicates the value of our proposed solution.

• Work with the equipment execution team to ensure the equipment is built in compliance with customer specifications and expectations.

• Develop commercial proposals based upon applications of our technical solutions.

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements (Basic Qualifications):

• Exposure to process design or technical sales

• Experience working in a collaborative engineering environment

• Willing to travel up to 20%, domestic travel

What Will Put You Ahead

• Three (3) years of applications engineering, technical sales, or business development experience

• Direct experience with Process Burners

• Experience working in the Petrochemical or Refining industries

• Experience with pricing strategy, negotiating contracts, etc.

• Experience working cross functionally with sales and engineering teams

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Technology Engineering, or other relevant technical degree or 5+ years of closely related experience in the combustion industry

Our equipment group business supplies components for applications in various markets with a focus on the refining and petrochemical Industry. Our Field Service Technicians support our customers at their sites across the country with their commissioning, maintenance and other service needs.

What You Will Do

  • The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for installation supervision, troubleshooting and maintenance recommendations to our customers.
  • They will have operational and functional knowledge of register burners, duct burners or utility burners and must possess good mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn complex mechanical systems.
  • The successful candidate will also need to know how to communicate with PLC's, PLC logic, and HMI's and have a rudimentary knowledge of electrical design and wiring skills.
  • The technician will be expected to travel on a regular basis to customer job sites on a regular basis.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Combustion experience working with register burners, duct burners or utility burners
  • Experience working with PLC's and PLC programming for controlling combustion equipment or similar equipment
  • Able to travel to job sites approximately 75% of the time
  • A TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) will have to be obtained within first six (6) weeks of employment
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Candidate must live within a 50- mile radius of a major airport.

Physical requirements:

  • Field work experience in the petrochemical, power generation, pulp & paper or food processing industries.

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Operate, monitor, and optimize equipment performance

  • Conduct critical and preventative maintenance and calibration activities on equipment

  • Take samples and support the Lab FSR in performing analytical testing such as: pH, COD, DO, Ammonia, ATP, TSS, 30-min settling tests, phosphorus, in addition to various other site-specific testing requirements

  • Support the Lab FSR in reviewing lab data and make appropriate process changes based upon plant conditions and laboratory results

  • Utilize forklift as needed for plant operations purposes

  • Monitor, adjust and maintain chemical injection systems

  • Support the maintenance team in maintaining inventory of spare parts and adequate supply of chemicals and replacement parts

  • Carry out mechanical, electrical and control troubleshooting on equipment such as valves, air compressors, ejectors, process pumps, blowers, and instrumentation

  • Create and maintain site documentation, and provide customers with detailed technical summaries of work performed

  • Consult with shift lead and site management

  • Ensure contract compliance of volume and quality specifications

  • Meet customer access requirements to sites

  • Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Knowledge of basic wastewater or water treatment

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills

  • Proficient in Google Suite or related software

  • Data interpretation, record keeping reporting and critical decision-making skills

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate orally in English in a fluent manner

  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance for pumps, bearings, blowers and general rotating equipment

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Required:

  • High School Diploma / GED / Home School Certification OR international equivalent 2+ years’ experience of service/maintenance or equivalent in an industrial environment

  • A valid driver's license

:

  • Bachelor or Associates Degree in Science/Engineering (STEM) or technical certificate in Instrumentation

  • Experience working with wastewater treatment technologies

The Senior **Field Service Technician** is responsible for performing field service activities at customer sites in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. This role includes hands-on work involving mechanical, electrical, and diesel-powered equipment, as well as system troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and inventory management. Technicians in this position must also be capable of identifying and resolving safety issues on both company- and customer-owned systems. The role involves direct customer interaction and may require support across multiple technologies and sites. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential for success.
