What you will be doing
  • Conduct frequent and unscheduled food safety and sanitation audits
  • Monitor and assist distribution to comply with local, state and federal food safety and health standards, including personal hygiene and hand washing, temperature control of potentially hazardous foods, cross contamination control, pest control and chemical use training.
  • Review distribution center sanitation evaluation reports provided by pest control and sanitation supplies.
  • Prepare food safety and sanitation discussion topics for weekly meetings.
  • Monitor Food Safety and Sanitation self-inspection and record keeping requirements.
  • Implement plans to address noted deficiencies to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable health regulations.
  • Direct third-party pest control and chemical suppliers in their day-to-day, communicating to them needs for training, supplies and service.
  • Communicates inspection results to VPGM/site leader and provides recommendations for improvements. Provides regular updates directly to the VPGM/site leader of trends that could impact the business.
  • Educate and train personnel in food safety standards and regulations.
  • Stay updated on local, state, and federal food safety laws and regulations.
Pay Rate: $82,000 - $107,680 annual

Starting rates may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service, hours worked and any applicable collective bargaining agreement, benefits may include healthcare, PTO/Vacation pay and retirement benefits (401(k) eligibility).

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Description:

The Director Food Safety and QA will provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership for the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQ) department for Ed Miniat, which includes production facilities in South Holland, IL and Carrollton, GA. This position is responsible for analyzing, updating, managing, and continuously improving quality, food safety, and laboratory programs across the business. Key responsibilities include leading the hiring, development, and performance management of the FSQ team, as well as managing the department’s budget and expenditures. The role will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and implement quality improvements across products and processes. Additionally, this position will serve as the primary liaison for external quality counterparts at customer and supplier organizations and regulatory agencies, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and issue resolution.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and technical leadership in the development and implementation of quality systems to ensure compliance with GFSI standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Identify opportunities and lead initiatives to improve quality programs, systems, and processes.
  • Coach, mentor, and support team members to develop a high-performing, technically skilled FSQ team.
  • Oversee compliance of offsite warehouses to specifications and requirements; conduct audits and assessments as needed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on sanitation practices to drive effectiveness and operational efficiency.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.

  • In-depth knowledge of USDA/FDA regulations, GFSI standards, and industry best practices.
  • HACCP and PCQI certification required.

Position Description:

The Director Food Safety and QA will provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership for the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQ) department for Ed Miniat, which includes production facilities in South Holland, IL and Carrollton, GA. This position is responsible for analyzing, updating, managing, and continuously improving quality, food safety, and laboratory programs across the business. Key responsibilities include leading the hiring, development, and performance management of the FSQ team, as well as managing the department's budget and expenditures. The role will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and implement quality improvements across products and processes. Additionally, this position will serve as the primary liaison for external quality counterparts at customer and supplier organizations and regulatory agencies, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and issue resolution.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide direction and technical leadership in the development and implementation of quality systems to ensure compliance with GFSI standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Identify opportunities and lead initiatives to improve quality programs, systems, and processes.
  • Coach, mentor, and support team members to develop a high-performing, technically skilled FSQ team.
  • Oversee compliance of offsite warehouses to specifications and requirements; conduct audits and assessments as needed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on sanitation practices to drive effectiveness and operational efficiency.

  • Verify compliance with HACCP and food safety programs, including oversight of prerequisite programs.
  • Review and make final disposition decisions on retained product and materials, ensuring procedures and documentation are properly executed.
  • Monitor adherence to SOPs, manufacturing operating procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Deliver training and development programs to ensure QA personnel meet technical and compliance standards.
  • Participate in internal product evaluation panels and support continuous improvement through product reviews.
  • Support broader employee training initiatives related to food safety and quality system topics.
  • Establish and manage departmental costs and expenditures in line with budgetary expectations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct oversight and leadership to the Ed Miniat FSQ team.
  • Lead staffing, onboarding, and talent development efforts within the department.
  • Set clear expectations and performance standards while ensuring alignment with company policies and objectives.
  • Actively participate in the Performance Management Process, including goal setting and development planning for team members.
  • Represent the FSQ function in director-level meetings and contribute to strategic decision-making.

  • Serve as a coach and mentor to junior QA professionals, supporting their technical and professional growth.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.

  • In-depth knowledge of USDA/FDA regulations, GFSI standards, and industry best practices.
  • HACCP and PCQI certification required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software tools relevant to quality assurance and reporting.

**WHAT YOU WILL DO:**
The Food Safety Sanitor performs sanitation labor by performing the eight steps of sanitation while understanding and complying with all food safety and safety policies and procedures. Job duties include:
- Work cooperatively with leads and management to ensure sanitation procedures are followed.
- Frequently lift hoses, equipment, and chemical containers, etc.
- Wear employer-specified personal protective equipment ("PPE") such as gloves, face shield, eye goggles, aprons, boots, safety glasses, etc.
- Exposure to chemicals (with PPE required for the task).
- All night standing, lifting, and crouching for periods at a time.
- Perform all tasks safely.
- Use Lock-out tag-out ("LOTO").
- Other duties as assigned.
**YOUR MUST HAVES:**
+ Must be 18 years of age or older.
+ Ability to take direction and instruction from managers and be accountable for own actions.
+ Safety awareness and attention to detail.
+ Ability to work in extreme temperature fluctuations.
**OUR ENVIRONMENT:**
This position would involve you to be in a wet, hot, and or cold environment, while wearing Personal Protective Equipment ("PPE"). Shift may vary depending on location?
