The Department of Earth System Science's (ESS) goal is to understand, predict, and respond to human-caused and natural environmental change at local to global scales. ESS includes a large and growing graduate student and postdoc community.
Earth System Science is seeking a full-time researcher to help with a variety of projects supporting research investigations related to fire ecology and biogeochemistry in the Pellegrini lab Environmental Science Lab Manager will work closely with the PI and members of the research group. The core goal is to coordinate and support the establishment of the Pellegrini lab at Stanford. This will involve developing analytical pipelines in the lab as well as coordinating permits, acquiring equipment and organizing the lab as well as support analytical work.
This position will involve a combination of field and laboratory measurements, operation of analytical equipment, methods development, and general project support. In addition, the candidate should be able to work independently and to analyze problems and create solutions to them. **Your Impact**

**Who You Are**
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or a related life sciences field.
+ 12+ years of experience in the environmental consulting field.
+ Strong working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.

+ Support the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Environmental Science work for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, with a focus on opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, strategic consulting, and program management).
+ Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
+ Assist with the preparation of an annual update to business tactical action plans within the specified area.
+ Ensure that scientific discipline certifications, accreditations, and value proposition is developed and continuously improved.
+ Lead complex environmental projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring profitability and satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.

+ Serve as one of the scientific discipline's lead representatives/liaison to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.
+ Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics.
+ Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents that result in sound scientific and regulatory conclusions to minimize impacts to the health of the environment and the population.
+ Develop a client base for providing high level Environmental Science services including identifying additional business development opportunities, and cross-selling of other WSP capabilities.
+ Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
+ Remain current in latest environmental science techniques and practices.

**Who You Are**
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or a related life sciences field.
+ 12+ years of experience in the environmental consulting field.
+ Strong working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.
+ Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
+ Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
+ Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.

POSITION SUMMARY

To provide instruction, be accessible as assigned for student conferences (i.e. immediately prior to and following class sessions or by appointment), and maintain adequate and accurate academic performance and attendance records of students – all under the direction of the department dean or representative.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Respond to inquiries from students, College employees and customers while maintaining standards of confidentiality and privacy, in a timely manner. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the College, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.
  2. Teach approved courses using applied learning methods in accordance with the course objectives, the established syllabus, the schedule of classes, and other College and program requirements. Instruct in a variety of learning environments, both on and off campus, which may include web-based, high schools, and other sites.
  3. Demonstrate ability and expertise in one's discipline and enthusiasm and creativity in teaching to create an environment that motivates students to learn. Manage the classroom and maintain records including preparing and updating course syllabi, course materials, technology, and web-based courses.
  4. Work with other faculty and the administration in carrying out all instructional procedures and willingness to follow procedures, both at on- and off-campus locations.
  5. Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, etc. and academic performance of students. Maintain accurate records and possess strong organizational skills. Flexibility to meet academic classroom schedules and off-campus sites. Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.
  6. Ability to teach lecture and laboratory courses and operate laboratory equipment. Monitor safety practices within the classroom and laboratory.
  7. Attend organizational, orientation, or training meetings held preceding or during each academic term and departmental meetings whenever feasible.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualification: Master's degree in Environmental Science or related discipline required; or master's degree with eighteen graduate semester hours in Environmental Science required. Higher education teaching experience preferred. Exhibit excellent English, communication, and writing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft® Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with strong computer and related technology skills required. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction and oversight. Any combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Candidate must successfully pass a background check, prior to and after employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.

This internship is located at the Se7en Wetlands at 500 W. Carter Rd. in Mulberry, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours a week. This internship begins mid-August.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with Se7en Wetlands environmental education and outreach programs including developing and refining outdoor activities, classroom activities, social media content, etc.

  • Facilitate environmental classes, tours, guided hikes, summer camps and other events both at Se7en Wetlands and in the greater community (could be virtual)

  • Assist with water quality monitoring, sampling, equipment maintenance and data management

  • Assist with land and habitat management activities, including plant and animal surveys

  • Conduct special studies in conjunction with a project, analyze data and make recommendations based upon findings

  • Use GIS software to analyze and display environmental data

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, in and around water, and associated wildlife.

  • Perform related work as required
