The UNM Division of Human Resources is a vibrant, collaborative, and solutions-driven team dedicated to supporting our university community. We are looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable HR Consultant to join our Client Services team. If you're passionate about advising, coaching, and creating people-focused strategies, this is your opportunity to drive meaningful impact in a higher education setting.
In this role, you'll act as a strategic partner to assigned departments, providing expert guidance across the full employee lifecyclefrom recruitment to retention. You will offer consultation on a broad range of HR matters including employee relations, policy interpretation, compliance, performance management, compensation, and organizational development. You'll also support leadership teams with data-informed recommendations that align HR practices with strategic goals.
We're seeking a forward-thinking professional who can solve complex issues, build trusted relationships, and proactively champion innovative HR solutions that make UNM a better place to work.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a trusted HR business partner/generalist across areas such as FMLA, ADA, performance management, recruitment, engagement, and compensation.
- Provide expert-level consultation on complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary actions and conflict resolution.
- Collaborate with departmental leaders to align HR strategies with business objectives.
- Lead or contribute to university-wide HR initiatives and process improvement efforts.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (FMLA, FLSA, ADA, etc.).
- Interpret and communicate policy changes while promoting HR best practices.
- Educate and support hiring managers and leaders at multiple levels.
Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- SHRM-CP/SCP or HRCI PHR/SPHR certification
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex HR issues
- Broad experience with the full employee lifecycle in a professional setting
- Higher education HR experience strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of employee relations, coaching, and performance management
- Experience leading or supporting major HR projects or initiatives
- Skilled in navigating HRIS/applicant tracking systems
- Effective communicator with strong consultative, relationship-building, and influence skills
