Position Overview:
A nationally recognized engineering and design firm is seeking a motivated Mechanical/HVAC Engineer to join its growing team in Middletown, CT. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented engineer looking to expand their technical skillset while working on complex and high-impact building systems projects across various sectors.
This position will focus on the design of mechanical and HVAC systems under the guidance of licensed Professional Engineers. The ideal candidate will support all phases of design, from calculations and equipment selection to layout and energy modeling. This is a growth-oriented role with opportunities to advance toward a PE license and assume broader design responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform HVAC and mechanical system design for building projects
- Select mechanical equipment including fans, air handling units, chillers, heat exchangers, etc.
- Layout and size ductwork and piping systems
- Conduct load calculations using Trane Trace software
- Perform basic energy modeling
- Assist with on-site surveys to document existing conditions
- Collaborate with internal multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Communicate with vendors, clients, and contractors as needed
- Support other design and documentation tasks as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (mechanical concentration)
- FE/EIT certification required
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in mechanical/HVAC system design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits
- Must be able to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment

Refrigeration
- Operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and performance of the central refrigeration system, including two brine chiller units for positive temperature system, associated support systems, plant control system and refrigeration box monitoring system, and two brine chiller units for positive temperature system, associated support systems, plant control system and refrigeration box monitoring system.
General

Refrigerant and glycol system pipe work and insulation integrity while targeting a zero gas and glycol leakage tolerance. Prompt identification and correction of any inadvertent leakage. The monitoring and recording of gas consumption as required under EPA rules.

Proficient use of AMOS to forecast, implement and record all work undertaken and all spares/consumables required for use and stock.

Proficient use of AIMS system to forecast, respond to and record all work relating to Guest and Crew area deficiencies. Work orders are closed out in a timely fashion with feedback being provided as necessary.

Oversees and participates in work/training by contractors who may board the vessel on a regular or as required frequency.

+ Undertaking work, both front and back of house, to a standard which sees to Guest and Crew satisfaction while maintaining Show Quality Standards (SQS) and seeking to continually improve GSM ratings regarding air conditioning/refrigeration performance and guest service recovery.
+ Proficient use of AMOS to forecast, implement and record all work undertaken and all spares/consumables required for use and stock.
+ Proficient use of AIMS system to forecast, respond to and record all work relating to Guest and Crew area deficiencies. Work orders are closed out in a timely fashion with feedback being provided as necessary.
+ Oversees and participates in work/training by contractors who may board the vessel on a regular or as required frequency.
+ Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency of HVAC and refrigeration systems by means of operational procedures and equipment renewal and/or modification.
+ Maintains cleanliness and general condition of all work locations.
+ Maintains regular performance assessment on Officers and Crew reporting to this position. Administers coaching, counseling and discipline as necessary.
+ Interacts with Guests, Crew, contractors and shore personnel in a friendly and respectful manner to maintain/enhance the reputation and integrity of the Engineering Department.

Pratt & Whitney Externals Engineering seeks a motivated, detail-oriented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the design team. Working on inter-disciplinary teams, the selected candidate will perform mechanical design of gas turbine engine fuel, hydraulic, lubrication, air management plumbing and electrical and harness systems hardware. This position requires creative design skills in engine hardware arrangement and packaging to achieve maintainable, low-cost systems while meeting structural and functional requirements. External hardware includes a vast and challenging array of parts including tubes, brackets, electrical harnesses, and component mounts. The Externals designer routinely interfaces with virtually every module on a PW gas turbine engine as well as integration of different systems on the engine including lubrication, electrical, fuel and air systems.
All design work will utilize UG NX solid modeling as well as other modeling and analysis tools. The candidate will work with other disciplines including structures, project, and product definition. Develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones that meet cost and weight goals.
Understand technical processes and design requirements of gas turbine externals hardware including plumbing and ducting systems, component mounts, sheet metal brackets and electrical harnesses.
Learn and apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner.
Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools to continuously improve the externals design process.
Communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.).
Ability to negotiate design criteria/space with other groups including internal as well as external customers.
Travel up to 25% (Domestic).
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience in engine hardware arrangement and packaging, or an Advanced degree in Engineering with 3 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience in engine hardware arrangement and packaging.
