**Job responsibilities**
+ Partner with project team members to interview stakeholders, develop frameworks and insights to address key process improvements, organizational changes, and functional strategic development efforts.

**Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills**
+ 3+ years of experience in developing and implementing process improvement or re-engineering programs in a professional setting.

+ Demonstrated proficiency in data analytics, with experience in interpreting models and diagrams to communicate data requirements and assets.

As a member of the Automation team, the Automation Engineer/Specialist will contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
- Developing solutions for automation projects with senior level oversight and guidance.
- Programming, testing, and commissioning of SCADA systems which includes some, if not all of the following software: PLC packages (Rockwell RSLogix 500/Studio 5000, Schneider Electric Unity/Ecostruxure, and/or Emerson Proficy Machine Edition), HMI packages (GE iFix, Rockwell FactoryTalk, and/or VTScada).
- Configuring SCADA servers, OITs, workstations, networks, and wireless communication systems (i.e. cellular, radio, Wi-Fi).
- Developing SCADA reports using Dream Reports, XL Reporter, or Hach WIMS.
- Performing field acceptance testing (FATs) and field inspections to ensure contractor conformance with contract requirements for control systems.
- Creating basic to moderately complex instrumentation and control system designs by developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), control system architectures, specifications, and control descriptions.
- Preparing control system preliminary design reports (PDRs).
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity solutions.
- Reviewing basic to moderately complex level shop drawings consisting of control system components, instrumentation and panel wiring diagrams.
- Providing responses to contractor requests for information (RFIs) under limited supervision.

**Responsibilities**
+ Collaborate with the Battelle Cyber Trust and Assurance team working on state-of-the-art integrated circuit security solutions ranging from design, verification, and testing of electronic devices, integrated circuits, and embedded systems.
+ Support semiconductor device forensics through chemical processing and materials characterization.
+ Responsible for the safe operation of laboratory equipment including acid, solvent, base, and other hazardous chemical systems.
+ Identify and articulate the strengths and weaknesses of solutions, conclusions, and problem approaches during technical discussions.
+ Work with internal stakeholders to support the preparation of presentations and reports. May be called on to provide input, perform demonstrations, or present on assigned tasks during customer meetings.

**Key Qualifications**

+ Hands on experience in semiconductor device sample preparation (i.e.- sectioning, polishing, depackaging, delayering, plasma etching, wet chemical processing)
+ Experience in the following semiconductor physical failure analysis techniques for materials characterization, electrical, and/or structural characterization: focused ion beam (FIB), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), light microscopy.

**Job Summary**
Battelle is seeking a **Semiconductor Materials Engineer** . This position is located in **Columbus, OH** .
Battelle's Cyber team in Columbus, OH is looking for a Semiconductor Materials Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team, bringing together the brightest minds in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and more. The team works to develop, evaluate, and test unique physical and embedded security solutions for our clients. The successful candidate will enjoy hands-on lab work developing outside of the box solutions with custom semiconductor failure analysis methods.
**Responsibilities**
+ Collaborate with the Battelle Cyber Trust and Assurance team working on state-of-the-art integrated circuit security solutions ranging from design, verification, and testing of electronic devices, integrated circuits, and embedded systems.
+ Support semiconductor device forensics through chemical processing and materials characterization.
+ Responsible for the safe operation of laboratory equipment including acid, solvent, base, and other hazardous chemical systems.
+ Identify and articulate the strengths and weaknesses of solutions, conclusions, and problem approaches during technical discussions.
+ Work with internal stakeholders to support the preparation of presentations and reports. May be called on to provide input, perform demonstrations, or present on assigned tasks during customer meetings.
+ Prioritize and complete assignments with mentoring from senior staff.
**Key Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree or 2-9 years' equivalent work experience in one of the following fields: Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics
+ Hands on experience in semiconductor device sample preparation (i.e.- sectioning, polishing, depackaging, delayering, plasma etching, wet chemical processing)
+ Experience in the following semiconductor physical failure analysis techniques for materials characterization, electrical, and/or structural characterization: focused ion beam (FIB), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), light microscopy.
+ Intellectual curiosity and a passion for science and technology
+ Must be a US Citizen
+ Holds an DOD Active Secret; willing and able to obtain a DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Master's degree or 0-6 years' equivalent work experience in one of the following fields: Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics
+ Experience in the following semiconductor characterization techniques: energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray computed tomography (XCT)
+ Familiarity with semiconductor and device physics, integrated circuits, and/or microelectronics hardware
+ Experience in tool maintenance, repairs, and laboratory management/safety oversight.
+ Strong bench skills, including digital and analog circuit prototyping, application-specific test & measurement instrument design.
+ Experience in reverse engineering, verification and validation, and/or device processing for fabrication of integrated circuits
+ Experience designing, constructing, and automating custom test instrumentation.
+ Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or C# for engineering solutions
+ Active DoD Top Secret/SCI Clearance
