**Job Description**
The purpose of this position is to manage the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) function to create and sustain a productive work culture and safe work environment in order to avoid and minimize HSE related problems. - Provide guidance, assistance and advice to business lines, project management, and Company organizations through interpretation of Company HSE practices and procedures in relation to client requirements and current legislation and regulations
- Make decisions independently on engineering/scientific problems and methods relating to HSE using advanced techniques, modifications and extensions of theories, precepts and practices of the particular field, related sciences and disciplines
- Develop, customize, and supervise the implementation of HSE programs, including project site-based HSE orientation, recognition and awards programs, to all levels of project staff to promote a balance between productivity and the safety of project staff and visitors in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
- Run gap analyses to identify and address program gaps that may occur between Company practices, client requirements, and regulatory/legislative requirements in order to confirm that the project conforms to Company, client and regulatory/legislative requirements
- Initiate, foster and maintain HSE standards and goals through Company and/or project wide HSE programs to heighten awareness and promote a safe and productive work environment

The Industrial Safety Specialist will be an integral part of the day-to-day operations to provide EH&S Leadership and supporting all employees on site. Under general supervision, the Industrial Safety Specialist performs technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with EH&S standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
Must leverage knowledge and applications of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of an environmental specialty. Assists in the development and implementation of Job Hazard Analysis, Safety Procedures, Critical Risk evaluations, and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures. Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area. Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazard. Conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. May provide guidance for a team of EH&S specialists and/or support personnel.

We are currently seeking a Process Safety Consultant with a specialization in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) to lead and support a growing portfolio of risk assessment and safety compliance projects.
This is a strategic, client-facing opportunity for experienced professionals who are passionate about applying PHA methodologies to identify and mitigate operational risks, improve facility safety, and ensure regulatory and code compliance. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience conducting, facilitating, and leading PHAs across various industries.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Lead and perform Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) using methodologies such as HAZOP, What-If, LOPA and FMEA
+ Guide clients through **PHA lifecycle management** , including PHA methodology, pre-study preparation, team coordination, study execution, documentation, and follow-up recommendations.
+ Provide consulting on flammable liquids, reactive chemistry, and other high hazard materials.
+ Analyze process safety information (P&IDs, PFDs, material data, operating procedures) to support thorough and accurate hazard analysis.
+ Prepare and peer-review high-quality, technically sound PHA reports for clients and regulatory authorities.
+ Conduct site visits to evaluate risk and compliance with NFPA, OSHA PSM, and insurer standards.
+ Support proposal development and participate in client-facing engagements to scope new PHA and process safety work.
**Desired Expertise**
+ High competency in use of one or more PHA software tools.

+ Design and analysis of safety instrumented systems including SIL Assignment, SIL verification and Functional Safety Assessments.
+ Knowledge of Industrial instrumentation and control systems
+ Experience developing, implementing or auditing PSM programs compliant with US OSHA and EPA Regulations, or their international equivalents.
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (or related field)

+ Recognized certification in PHA leadership

**Job Overview**
JENSEN HUGHES is expanding our industrial safety practice with a dedicated focus on solving complex challenges for manufacturing and industrial clients-particularly those with significant chemical processing, combustible dust, and high-hazard operations. We are currently seeking a Process Safety Consultant with a specialization in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) to lead and support a growing portfolio of risk assessment and safety compliance projects.
This is a strategic, client-facing opportunity for experienced professionals who are passionate about applying PHA methodologies to identify and mitigate operational risks, improve facility safety, and ensure regulatory and code compliance. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience conducting, facilitating, and leading PHAs across various industries.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Lead and perform Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) using methodologies such as HAZOP, What-If, LOPA and FMEA
+ Guide clients through **PHA lifecycle management** , including PHA methodology, pre-study preparation, team coordination, study execution, documentation, and follow-up recommendations.
+ Provide consulting on flammable liquids, reactive chemistry, and other high hazard materials.
+ Analyze process safety information (P&IDs, PFDs, material data, operating procedures) to support thorough and accurate hazard analysis.
+ Prepare and peer-review high-quality, technically sound PHA reports for clients and regulatory authorities.
+ Conduct site visits to evaluate risk and compliance with NFPA, OSHA PSM, and insurer standards.
+ Support proposal development and participate in client-facing engagements to scope new PHA and process safety work.
**Desired Expertise**
+ High competency in use of one or more PHA software tools.
+ Strong familiarity with key regulations and standards including:
+ Process Safety Management Regulation, CFR1910.119
+ Risk Management Program (40CFR Part 68 - Chemical Accident Prevention)
+ Guidelines for Hazard Evaluation Procedures, published by CCPS
+ IEC 61882 - Hazard and operability studies - Application guide
+ IEC 61511-1:2016, Functional safety - Safety instrumented systems for the process industry sector
+ Understanding of safety instrumented systems and controls (a plus)
+ Previous engineering experience, in one or more of the following industries: Oil and gas, Chemical, Pulp and paper, Industrial Gases or Pharmaceutical.
+ Experience performing consequence and frequency analysis for accidental toxic or flammable material releases.
+ Design and analysis of pressure relief systems and the various governing codes and standards used in industry.
+ Design and analysis of safety instrumented systems including SIL Assignment, SIL verification and Functional Safety Assessments.
+ Knowledge of Industrial instrumentation and control systems
+ Experience developing, implementing or auditing PSM programs compliant with US OSHA and EPA Regulations, or their international equivalents.
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (or related field)
+ 5+ years of experience in process safety role with direct involvement in conducting or facilitating PHAs.
+ Recognized certification in PHA leadership
+ Professional credentials (e.g., PE,. Functional safety competence such as FS Eng, FSP or CFSE is highly regarded)
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts.
+ Experience with client management and proposal development is a plus.

The IHS Professional 1 may provide daily industrial hygiene and safety support of programmatic or facility work and/or may manage and administer one or more low-risk institutional industrial hygiene and safety programs or services.
As an entry-level professional, the IH/S Professional 1 is expected to acquire professional experience by applying DOE Orders, relevant external regulation, and Laboratory procedures to help ensure that work is conducted safely and compliantly. The IH/S Professional 1 is expected to use and apply standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques as recognized within the industrial hygiene and safety profession to resolve an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. **Minimum Job Requirements:**
+ Working knowledge of DOE and/or regulatory requirements related to industrial hygiene.

**Directive 206.2** - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. **Clearance: Q** (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
**HRP:** This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
**426.2:** This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
**New-Employment Drug Test:** The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
**Regular position:** Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
**Internal Applicants:** Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Typical duties include:
Investigates accidents to determine causes; prepares reports of investigations for use in recommendation of preventive measures and the development of safety programs

+ Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial safety and environmental experience is required.
+ High School diploma or equivalent required. Degree in Health and Safety management preferred
+ Related working experience on large job sites related to project / building construction highly preferred.
+ Good written and verbal communication skills required
+ Experience functioning as safety professional in industrial construction environment essential
+ Professional health and safety certification CSP preferred
+ First Aid, CPR or OSHA training preferred.
+ Degree in Health and Safety management preferred
+ Ability to work different shifts as needed by the project
Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 50 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 100 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, continuous need to walk on uneven ground thus good balance and the ability to traverse construction site environment a must, potential exposure to dust, gas or fumes, noise, extremes in temperature (heat and cold) or humidity, and potential work at heights.
