**Summary**
The **Project Engineer** supports field activities and spends a majority of time working with the Project Manager supporting project administration on multiple small projects, or one medium to large-size projects. Activities include managing the job transition process; and supporting the management of cost and schedule, constructability, technical evaluations, quality, safety, work planning, procurement, contract management, regulatory compliance, etc.
**Roles and Responsibilities**
The **Project Engineer** will possess competency in the following areas in order to perform his/her role in a safe, productive, and effective manner. Note that the areas listed are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by co-workers assigned to this role. + Generates and obtains approvals of monthly billing and earned values
+ Develops and manages the project schedule on small or mid-sized projects
+ Analyzes targets and goals, job cost summaries, and other reports
+ Alerts the Superintendent and Project Manager of project impact relating to resource management, crew make-up/size, etc.
+ Generates and obtains approval of the initial budget and subsequent updates, and reviews weekly job cost summaries and advises the Project Manager
+ Generates estimates of change orders and may interface with pre-construction on original bids
+ Collaborates with pre-construction and the project team to manage the job transition process, communicate project requirements, and develop the initial procurement plans, budgets, etc.
+ Generates material quantity take-offs, scoping documents, terms and conditions, delivery, etc. as applicable to support the procurement process
+ Generates requests for proposal(s), solicits and reviews quotations, and recommends a procurement decision to Project Manager
+ Prepares field purchase orders for standard purchase packages, and generates and obtains approval of Major Purchase Orders
+ Gathers and roughs-in monthly financial reports, and participates in the project financial reviews
+ Works with the Project Manager to approve and code project invoices
+ Generates and obtains approval of technical records such as constructability reports, RFI's, inspection records, work packages and deviation reports
+ Coordinates with the Superintendent, Field Project Engineer, and Line and Grade to generate required as-built records
+ Manages work package closure, punch lists, and project turnover process and approves pre- and post-pour checklists
+ Collects necessary documentation to identify and determine impact of potential contract changes, disputes, and claims
+ Leads LEAN/SQP committee and identifies improvement opportunities
+ Ensures all subcontractors are in compliance with terms of subcontracts, generates, and obtains approval on impact notices as needed
+ Reviews and confirms reports documenting compliance (Company and subcontractors) with prevailing wage, workforce utilization, MBE/SBE participation, etc., and advises the Project Manager of issues
+ Interfaces with Safety and Risk Management in establishing clinics, managing first report of injuries, and assisting with co-worker case management
+ Follows Company Recruitment and Hiring Guidelines
+ May conduct new-hire orientation and process E-Verify (must be certified)
+ May coordinate tracking and completion of training requirements with project management
**Requirements**
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years' of experience or 6 years' of construction related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

The role involves planning and managing design workflows to meet project milestones and collaborating with senior engineers to ensure customer specifications are met and designs are efficient and manufacturable.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Reports to the Engineering Manager/Supervisor; no direct or indirect reports
+ Analyzes and designs steel utility structures (primarily transmission and distribution) using structural design software, including Finite Element Method (IMPAX)
+ Balances safety, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency in all designs
+ Interprets customer specifications, market needs, and sales input to develop compliant, practical solutions
+ Prepares and communicates engineering data for quotes and orders, including weight estimates and cost-related details
+ Supports Drafting team to ensure design accuracy and timely order processing
+ Reviews engineering and shop drawings, and evaluates as-built products for alignment with design intent
+ Coordinates workflow and project milestones to ensure on-time delivery
+ Provides internal and external technical support, including to customers, consultants, and contractors
+ Maintains effective communication through phone, email, and in-person interactions
+ May provide guidance to drafters and junior design staff
+ Participates in product and process improvement discussions to enhance team efficiency and morale
+ Recommends and coordinates testing to confirm theoretical designs when necessary
+ Ensures design compliance with Valmont, industry, and national codes and standards
+ Handles both standard and complex structural modeling tasks with appropriate support
+ Applies sound engineering judgment to projects with clearly defined objectives and variable challenges
+ May require travel up to 10%
**Essential Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 2-5+ years of relevant structural design experience preferred
+ Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
+ Proficiency in structural engineering principles and 3D CAD (AutoCAD)
+ Strong communication and teamwork skills
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
+ 3-4 years of industry experience
+ Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
+ Experience designing steel monopoles or utility structures
+ Familiarity with utility design loads and industry standards
+ Prior project team experience

PROJECT ENGINEER - CIVIL CONSTRUCTION
A heavy civil general contractor with over 80 years of industry experience is expanding and looking for a Project Engineer to join their team. This role plays a vital part in a results-driven organization , offering long-term career growth, exceptional benefits, and a dynamic, rewarding work environment .
As a Project Engineer , you will help ensure projects progress safely, accurately, and efficiently . You’ll work closely with and take direction from the Project Manager and Superintendent to support successful project execution.
Responsibilities:
- Draft subcontractor agreements for Project Manager review/approval and track to ensure signed agreements are returned timely.
- Responsible for overall aspects of management of subcontractors
- Plan work schedule and delivery of materials and equipment
- Obtain, evaluate, submit, and track all project submittals.
- Obtain material quotes from suppliers and submit purchase orders for approval.
- Accurately track and report materials used, materials required, and materials on hand.
- Prepare and track project RFI’s.
- Maintain field purchase order documentation.
- Prepare daily internal reporting documents (e.g., correspondence, daily reports, timesheets) to track project issues, agreements, communications with owner, subcontractors, etc.
- Inspect job site for general project and safety compliance, and communicate issues to Superintendent.
- Attend site meetings with owners and subcontractors.
- Must to willing to travel.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field highly preferred
- 1+ years of experience in heavy civil construction. This can include paving, earthwork, grading, excavation, bridgework, wet/dry utilities, marine construction etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities depending on project needs.
- Ability to develop and maintain successful relationships with all levels of employees, clients, and subcontractors.
- Ability to self-manage work with little supervision.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
