The Beltran Lab primarily focuses on understanding mechanisms of treatment resistance in prostate cancer and lineage plasticity during cancer evolution. + Manages team of RDSs to ensure correct sample inventories at large - blood and tissue derived.
+ Manages all receiving, storage and retrieval requests, arranging sample transport, audits inventory of all samples, data entry in database systems, and placement of samples in correct temperature storage.
+ Works with frequent users to maximize efficiency and batch requests when feasible.
+ Responsible for receiving and tracking lab samples, managing freezer inventory, ordering necessary supplies, submitting billing charges, and assisting with ad hoc projects and reports.
+ Hires and trains RDS staff for proficient sample management in all chains of custody.
+ Responsible for managing, directing, and leading the RDS team.
+ Collaborates with the Thub team for seamless specimen collections, inventories and transfers.
+ Manages billing invoices to external and internal customers.
+ Manages all equipment maintenance and schedules repairs as needed.
+ Manages and updates biospecimen related SOPs.

Scientific Operations
+ Assists PI in monitoring, enabling and facilitate collaborations with other programs.

+ Organizethe lab space, ensure equipment and software maintenance, and order supplies.- Assist in the generation and maintenance of research tools, and have general knowledge of either molecular or computational biology techniques.
Administrative
+ Responsible for managing efficient and effective administration of protocols and materials/stocks.
+ Trains and manages RDSs and guides recruitment of technical staff.
+ Responsible for annual reviews of technical staff performance.
+ Assists PI with counseling, teaching, training, mentoring, orientation, in-service and continuing education for laboratory staff and trainees.
+ Ensures all lab staff are compliant with mandatory trainings required by DFCI, NIH and sponsor(s).
+ Organizeand schedule lab meetings, staff onboarding, and ensure compliance with all lab safety guidelines.
+ Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline required; Master's degree preferred
+ A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in management of research laboratory in the field of biological sciences
+ Strong knowledge of HR activities and solid writing skills preferred
+ Familiarity with cancer research laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, safety, compliance and record keeping.

Responsibilities
+ Provide project management leadership for lab operations projects, including gathering requirements, creating schedules, and developing plans.

Manage the lab team of 3 supervisors and 60+ employees in a critical aspect of the laboratory
Conduct disciplinary actions, lead the hiring of new employees, and serve as the main point of contact for all site operations
Management of testing personnel following established standard operating procedures for specimen handling and processing analysis.
Assist with work on the bench as needed and mentor employees and supervisors
Manage the Human Resource functions within the lab
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance, and takes authorized corrective actions
Detects when test performance is not within acceptable levels, and documents all corrective action
Specific tasks for this job in this section will include the following:
Oversees coordination of schedules, distribution of work and usage of laboratory resources
Develops and implements improvements to lab workflow
Coordinates hiring and training efforts
Ensure departmental policies and procedures are optimized
Provide leadership to management and other laboratory staff
Develop a culture of leading by example and team mentality
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or higher required
5-10 years of Management experience and must meet CLIA requirements
Must be MT/MLT eligible - certification is not required, but is a plus
Must have 5 plus years MT/MLT experience
Mathematical, computer, reasoning, and language skills at the professional level.
Knowledge of clinical industry trends and technology
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong communication skills

**POSITION SUMMARY**
This position develops, directs and manages operational activities within the laboratory to effectively meet Company objectives.

**CORE FUNCTIONS**
1. Hires, trains and conducts performance evaluations; directs the workflow for the departmental staff. Provides for the education, development and mentoring of staff. This position is also accountable for participating in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives. Ensures all goals and objectives are met timely and effectively.
2. Works collaboratively with both SQL/LSA and Banner Finance Teams and participates in the development of the department budget in conjunction with established goals and objectives. Works to ensure budgetary goals are met on an annual basis.
3. Accountable for the laboratory or laboratories maintaining applicable accreditation to demonstrate compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) for patient care and nursing. Also ensures laboratory is compliant with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. May include monitoring activities impacted by Banner Health initiatives for patient care.
4. Performs process management by leading and participating in task forces and councils. This includes participating in the development and implementation of processes, procedures, matrix and programs to increase operational efficiency, compliance and effectiveness, as well as ensure the delivery of quality patient and customer care by using Six Sigma and Lean.
5. Serves as a resource and communication liaison by facilitating timely and accurate dissemination of information to staff and clients, Banner Health and LSA/SQL.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

Qualifications / Certifications
