Job Description
The MV Power Electronics team has the principal goal of identifying, developing, and justifying commercialization of significant opportunities for the MV Controls business in the area of power electronics, power converters, power systems, electric drives, electromagnetics, numerical modeling and controls.
The primary activities include leading and directing research and development activities for advanced medium voltage converters and distribution devices for both AC and DC power systems. This position will work in a team environment, with remote team members, engaging in full life-cycle development (plan, design, analyze, build, debug, optimize for production, and post-delivery support) of analog, digital and micro-controller circuits implementing power conversion functionality and power distribution and motor control.
The MV Drives Research Lab Manager is expected to support efforts in developing and driving the technology roadmap strategy and execution for broad applications within the Power Conversion team. This includes collaborating with resources and establishing key partnerships both internally and externally to drive technological advancement. They will be responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all research and development efforts under his/her control and managing the lab activities and resources to achieve program objectives.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $123750.0 - $181500.0 a year.

**What you'll do:**
**In this role:**
+ Executes and assumes responsibility for the safety aspects of laboratory activities and equipment to protect employees from injury in accordance with MESH requirements.
+ Manages lab resources (technicians) in the setup and safe execution of complex test programs at low and medium voltage.
+ Reviews and amends short and long term plans for lab infrastructure to account for changing priorities and includes both capital and resources.
+ Defines requirements and executes project aspects involving multiple stakeholders from technology investigation, system specification, test plan & execution, modeling & simulation, EMC, component selection, system packaging & thermal analysis, printed circuit board schematics & layout for programs involving multiple components and systems of high complexity. (External partners include universities, National Labs, government entities, manufacturing partners, etc.)
+ Understands program/project risks and influences key stakeholders to collaborate in making appropriate decisions.Leads and directs board and subassembly tests both at scaled down and full scale voltage, current and power.
+ Leads in specification, functional design and technology reviews at appropriate intervals.
+ Is actively engaged and collaborates with academic and advanced technology organizations to maintain awareness, advance the state of research and identify trends/industry developments (technology scouting) that may impact strategic business objectives.
+ Develops articles for trade and technical publications and presents technical papers at industry conferences.
+ Assists in developing IP strategy with business unit stakeholders and actively contributes to IP generation.
+ Initiates and develops solid relationships with engineering teams and business leaders to drive strong business cases for new programs and acquiring needed resources and funding.
+ Actively involved with customers to review current and anticipated needs and promotes Eaton capabilities.
+ Provides mentoring, direction and consulting to the product line engineering team(s) in product design, technology or project environment.
**Qualifications:**
**Basic Required Qualifications:**
+ Master's degree in Engineering or related field of study from an accredited institution.
+ 5+ years of industry experience in the area of applied research.
+ 3+ Years of experience with Medium Voltage or Low Voltage power electronics
+ Demonstrated history of innovation and technical leadership
+ Hands on laboratory research experience
+ Must be willing to relocate to Asheville NC. Relocation assistance will be provided, if needed.
+ Must be able to travel - some international travel may be required.
+ Must be able to work in the US on a continuous basis without sponsorship
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ PhD Engineering from an accredited institution
+ Experience using design and analysis tools including Altium, SPICE, EMTP-RV, MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, RTLab or equivalent
+ Experience with Adjustable Speed Drives in low and/or medium voltage
+ Solid working knowledge in the following areas: Thermal Design, EMC, Motor Control, Embedded Software, Modeling & Simulation, etc.
+ Experience directing or performing board layout
+ Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor experience
+ Ability to perform component level debugging of analog, digital and micro-controller circuits

- Concrete Testing : Oversee routine laboratory tests for concrete including labeling and setting samples for curing, monitoring temperature logs, and breaking of samples.

- Communication : Actively mentor and train lab staff; Assist with the coordination and schedule of work for laboratory technicians; Provide assistance to project managers and the department manager as requested; Collaborate with recruiting and your supervisor to maintain adequate staffing for your lab; Participate in business development, marketing, and client development.
Required Qualifications

- 4+ years of related experience performing laboratory tests on construction materials.
- Must have and be willing to maintain basic concrete and/or soils lab certifications.
- Must be able to lift 60-80 pounds.

- Good understanding of construction materials laboratory testing equipment, methods, principles, applications, and ASTM testing standards to include evaluation of results in terms of specification compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform assigned experiments under the primary direction of the Principal Investigator (includes design, preparation for, and execution of experiments, followed by data analysis and figure preparation).
- Serve as the laboratory compliance manager (maintains, updates and spot-checks records relating to general lab protocols, lab animal use and disposition, controlled substances, and chemicals/laboratory safety).
- Provide guidance to students, research assistants, and research residents on best laboratory practices (e.g., proper lab notebook maintenance, general record keeping, and data analysis).
- Attend to general laboratory matters including, but not limited to literature searches, supply inventory/purchases, interaction with sales representatives, participation in development of manuscripts.
- Responsible for general maintenance of lab ordering, restocking, organization/inventory of materials (including archived biospecimens), cleaning, filing, preventative maintenance and repair of all instrumentation.
- Serve as initial point of contact for lab members regarding problems/complaints lab members have regarding materials (including experimental materials, computer issues, timing issues for their work).
- Monitor and instruct new lab members and summer students, provide instruction on how to correctly record and analyze results.
- Serve as liaison with vendors and provides research on equipment and consumable products, including their associated protocols.

The primary function of the Laboratory Manager is to lead the daily operations of the laboratory team, oversee compliance, manage customer interactions, and ensure the effective, compliant acceptance of non-hazardous liquid waste streams at our Jacksonville Recycle Plant. As the gatekeeper for the plant, the Laboratory Manager performs critical analysis and oversight, guiding the intake process by using fingerprint testing and instrumentation to evaluate waste compatibility under regulatory standards and facility permit guidelines.
This position is ideal for a scientifically skilled and operationally savvy leader who thrives in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment and wants to help shape the future of environmental processing.
Essential Functions: Laboratory Operations & Analysis- Operate the lab safely in full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Apply and maintain knowledge of all EPA-approved testing methods
- Perform or oversee wet bench chemistry for waste stream analysis
- Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation, including:
- Flash Point Tester
- Hach DR2004 Spectrophotometer
- COD Testing
- ICP Metal Testing (instruments may vary based on plant needs)
- Ensure all measurement probes and lab equipment are calibrated and functioning properly
- Uphold all elements of the Waste Acceptance Plan and internal SOPs
- Conduct chemical treatment testing and provide direction to plant operators before, during, and after each treatment batch
- Monitor compliance standards and collaborate directly with regulatory agencies and labs to ensure best practices
- Implement and maintain continuous improvement practices to stay ahead of industry and regulatory standards
- Identify and address key treatment process defects, particularly in DAF, Filter Press, and Solidification systems
- Recommend and apply in-process treatment improvements to maintain peak compliance performance
- Provide final approval on customer waste profiles, coordinating with Sales
- Communicate directly with brokers/customers regarding waste stream approvals, upcharges, and COD-related billing
- Participate in customer site visits with Sales or Division Manager to evaluate on-site waste
- Maintain direct communication with the Plant Manager, providing lab performance updates and compliance reporting
- Order all lab supplies and coordinate plant PPE and safety supply needs
- Schedule lab shifts and ensure appropriate coverage across all shifts (must be able to flex shifts when needed)
- Assist lab team in entering accurate work orders into the waste tracking system
- Maintain documentation, reports, and internal communications in an organized and compliant manner
- Lead, mentor, and train laboratory staff
- Identify and integrate best practices into standard lab and plant operating procedures
- Foster a culture of compliance, professionalism, and continuous development across the lab team
- Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline
- Training in Waste Stream or Wastewater Management preferred
- Minimum 3 years of laboratory management experience
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting and compliance documentation

Perform overall lab management and participate in research experiments in the lab of Dr. Amy Lee for the Department of Neuroscience.
Responsibilities- Oversee mouse colonies: breeding, genotyping, ensuring animals are available for experiments.
- Assist in routine laboratory maintenance procedures including biohazardous waste disposal, tissue culture facility maintenance, ordering/restocking supplies, maintain inventories of reagents (DNA constructs, antibodies, viruses); maintain lab equipment and interact with service/sales reps.

This position is responsible for laboratory oversight, laboratory safety, equipment and materials management, and coordination of GxP and non-GxP testing at the Kymanox medical device and combination product testing laboratory. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Oversee sample management, inventory, and reconciliation for GxP and non-GxP studies.
- Order and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, consumables, and reagents.
- Organize and maintain traceability of test fixtures and instrumentation.
- Act as the primary point of contact with vendors and clients, for shipping and receipt of laboratory supplies and test samples.
- Manage laboratory waste streams and coordinate waste pickup with vendors.

- Act as primary oversight for training on equipment use and test method execution. Serve as a potential escalation point in the event of testing deviations, out of specification results, and equipment malfunctions.
- Work with Quality to ensure compliance with Quality Management System, including evaluating deviations and coordinating testing document reviews, Change Control evaluations, and support for CAPA evaluation and closure.
- Serve as liaison with sales, clients, and project teams to ensure projects are aligned with laboratory capabilities and resources.
- Establish best practices for testing to ensure efficiency and delivery of high-quality testing data.
- Develop and deliver strategic initiatives for improving lab and testing functionality and efficiency.
- Create and/or update applicable Standard Operating Procedures that govern laboratory workflows.
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in scientific, engineering, or other technical discipline from an accredited institution or equivalent.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in testing medical devices or combination products in a laboratory setting is required.
- Familiarity with GxP requirements, FDA/ICH guidance, ISO standards, and USP is required.
- 2+ years of laboratory management experience is required.
