This individual will provide strategic legal guidance to Human Resources and business leaders on employment-related matters and ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations in the US and Canada. The role involves a mix of proactive thinking and legal risk analysis; outside counsel management; and hands-on defense of employment-related claims.

A day in the life as a Corporate Counsel.
+ Provide day-to-day legal advice and strategic counsel to Human Resources, management, and business teams on a wide range of employment issues, including but not limited to:
+ Wage and hour compliance
+ Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims
+ Disability accommodation and leave management (FMLA, ADA, etc.)
+ Employee discipline and terminations
+ Monitor and interpret changes in federal/national, state/provincial, and local employment laws and regulations; proactively advise stakeholders on the impact of those changes
+ Conduct complex investigations and support/direct other investigations
+ Support key policy development and the development and delivery of training on employment-related topics and best practices
+ Provide proactive thought partnership in development of holistic risk-based compliance programs
+ Develop and cost-effectively manage defense strategy for all employment and labor-related claims, maintain relevant files and documents, and oversee outside counsel where necessary
+ Draft and review position statements, responses to administrative agencies, severance agreements, and other employment-related documents
+ Develop processes relating to and assist in the management of general (non-employment) litigation matters, as assigned
What you'll bring to the table.
+ Deep knowledge of US labor and employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRB, etc.); familiarity with Canadian employment laws a decided plus
+ Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information
+ Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate legal concepts into practical guidance and work collaboratively with range of individuals at varying levels
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and provide practical, business-oriented advice in a fast-paced environment

Pay ranges will be adjusted upward as needed to comply with applicable state and local law. In addition to your salary, based on your role, associates may be eligible for other compensation including bonuses, sales incentives, and long term incentives.

In this high-impact role, you'll take charge of managing intricate, high-exposure construction and litigation claims while playing a key role in supporting our New York Labor Law team. **Key Responsibilities:**
+ Manage complex primary and excess high-exposure litigated general liability claims with an emphasis on litigated construction claims, from inception to resolution.
+ Collaborate with your colleagues to drive best practices and optimal claims outcomes.
+ Ensure regular communication with clients, brokers, business units, and senior claims management.
+ Proactively manage and resolve high-severity injury claims while adhering to Zurich's best practices.
+ Accurately document claims files, capturing and updating relevant data to ensure compliance with industry standards.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of experience managing litigated general liability claims, including high-severity casesOR
+ Juris Doctor (JD) with 4+ years of experience managing general liability claims, including high-severity casesOR
+ High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 10+ years of experience managing litigated general liability claims, including high-severity casesOR
+ Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience managing litigated general liability claims, including high-severity cases
+ Must obtain and retain required adjuster licenses
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office
