MLC is a leading global supplier of high-calcium lime products and technical solutions. Become a critical part of our Ste. Genevieve team that support the needs of our surface plant operations. This is a union position where you can bid into a job after 30 days. Some of the jobs include:
  • Kiln Operators
    • Operation of mills, including monitoring feed system supplying the mills and the process itself.
    • Inspecting, cleaning, loading, and sealing of rail cars and /or tractor trailers.
    • Monitor product quality by obtaining product samples and performing quality control testing.
  • Lime Bin Attendant
    • Monitor and direct flow of product from lime elevator to lime bins.
    • Load product into bulk trucks
  • Lime Loader
    • Work with locomotive operator and/or rail car mover to move rail cars.
    • Inspect and clean rail cars for loading.
    • Load lime products into rail cars for shipment
  • Front-End Loader Operator
    • Transfer material from stockpile to hopper using a front-end loader.
    • Maintain cleanliness of coal belts, coke silos, and surrounding area.
  • Utility Operator
    • Use sandblaster and/or high-pressure washer to clean scrubber, tanks, fans, duct work, and other items related to the we-scrubber systems.

Scope of Services:

Our client, a large utilities provider, is seeking an experienced Project Manager with deep expertise in Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining environments to lead the coordination and execution of its Work Continuity Program. This high-visibility initiative is critical to the client’s readiness in the event of union labor disruptions and includes strategic planning, stakeholder coordination, and continuity operations planning related to both physical and clerical union labor contracts.

The PM will serve as a labor continuity subject matter expert (SME) and lead the effort to structure, track, and improve an enterprise-wide master plan involving multiple stakeholder groups. The ideal candidate will have direct experience managing projects in unionized utility environments and be confident in driving outcomes in politically and operationally sensitive contexts.


Role, Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • Develop and manage the Work Continuity Master Plan in preparation for upcoming collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Organize and align multiple cross-functional stakeholder groups (e.g., HR, Operations, Legal, Contingent Workforce, Communications).

Eskenazi Health is seeking a skilled and collaborative Senior Labor Relations Consultant to join our Human Resources team. In this key role, you will serve as a liaison between HR and AFSCME union leadership, fostering strong communication, interpreting labor agreements, resolving disputes, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and union contracts.

You will provide expert guidance to supervisors and employees by explaining HR policies, union agreements, and procedures, while supporting issue resolution and promoting a positive work environment.

This position also contributes to the development and administration of programs and policies that align employee performance and behavior with Eskenazi Health's strategic goals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains trusting relationships with staff and management, creating a work environment where employees can feel safeguarded. This is a crucial component to retaining staff and improving their efficiency
  • Facilitates communication and serves as a point of contact for both HR and union representatives, ensuring smooth and effective communication regarding employee concerns, policy changes, and contract negotiations.
  • Assists in resolving employee grievances, acting as a mediator between employees and management, and ensuring fair and equitable outcomes.
  • Provides an interpretation of the terms of the union agreement and is responsible for understanding the union agreement and ensuring that all parties are following them.
  • Partners with leaders and employees to assist with problem solving, explaining policies and procedures
  • Trains new leaders with union eligible employees on the grievance process and the AFSCME labor agreement
  • Participates in the bi-weekly union president meeting
  • Investigates allegations made in grievances and/or complaints
  • Prepares leaders for their grievance hearings and works with leaders on their grievance responses
  • Completes the AFSCME Investigation Summary Forms as requested
  • Maintains grievance data and monitors trends to share with ER team and leadership
  • Assists with the development and administration of programs, procedures and guidelines to align employee performance/behavior with strategic goals
  • Reports sensitive and/or high-profile issues timely to HR management
  • Meets with employees and leaders on performance concerns and provides guidance
  • Responds to HR Shared Services employee requests for information within 2 business days
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Am I Qualified:

Accredited Bachelor's degree in human resources, psychology or other related field with at least two (2) years' Labor/Employee Relations experience preferred; OR Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources with at least 2 years in Labor/Employee Relations may be accepted in lieu of education.

Position Summary:

The decisions made by a Union Representative/Organizer can have profound effects on worker's lives. As such, a Union Representative/Organizer is responsible for articulating the Union's message to workers and for carrying out internal and external organizing programs of SEIU United Healthcare Workers - West, as defined by the Officers and Executive Board of the Union and division directors. The Union Representative/Organizer will also motivate and mobilize potential or existing members to protect their rights and improve the quality of their work lives and fight the boss. The Union Representative/Organizer will provide effective leadership to carry out the goals of the Union in training and leadership development, new organizing, internal organizing, and political action. The Union Representative will also negotiate collective bargaining agreements, file and resolve grievances, meet and implement Union policies with employer representatives and with members of the community and with community groups.

Requirements

Job Functions:
  • Work with the Executive Board members, shop stewards and committee representatives to design and implement campaigns to build organizational power and be responsible for the effective functioning of the Union including leadership identification, recruitment, development, and training of members, stewards, and new staff.
  • Design and implement organizing campaigns to win Union recognition for unorganized workplaces, building organizing committees, identifying issues, leadership identification and development, and preparing workers for NLRB, MMBA and other elections, and/or strategic and recognition campaigns.
  • Exercise leadership, training and motivation to build and maintain a steward system designed to empower and mobilize workers through contract negotiation, contract enforcement, and other issues and disputes affecting workers. Assign tasks to stewards, be responsible for directing stewards with respect to developing and implementing Union policies on all workplace issues.
  • Educate workers and others on how power relationships work and how workers can/should use that knowledge.
  • Communicate with workers including listening, framing issues and motivating them to participate actively.
  • Visit work sites on a regular basis covering all shifts. Listen to workers concerns, determine when to file grievances, determine on what basis to settle grievances or prepare grievances for arbitration.
  • Organize rallies and demonstrations; provide strike support including organizing workers and members involvement, support actions, pressure campaigns on employers and building community support.
  • Develop written materials including newsletters, training materials, other literature, and press releases, etc.
  • Participate in lobbying at State, Federal and local levels and educate and mobilize members around the Union's political program.
  • Lead workers in community issues and build relationships with relevant people/groups/organizations outside the Union.
  • Recruit rank and file members to sit on Political Action Committees and participate in organizing legislative and electoral campaigns.
  • Represent the Union as assigned in community and labor coalition activities.
  • Lead other organizer(s) and be responsible for a program of the Union when assigned.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Complete all required administrative tasks (i.e., Activity forms, expense forms, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping on facility records.
  • Required to work long and varying hours including weekends, nights and holidays. Regular worksite visits, home visits and canvassing.
  • Requires constant use of independent judgment, self motivation, and capability of doing all the above duties with minimal supervision.
  • Driving long distances for extended periods of time is also required. Travel both statewide and out of state with overnights and periods away from home may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Experience as a Union Representative/Organizer or proven ability to carry on the responsibilities of the job.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn relevant special body of knowledge including labor law like NLRA, MMBA, FLSA, Cal OSHA, FMLA, Title 22, ADA, Workers Compensation, etc.
  • Knowledge of workers, the workplace, labor, and political issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to relate, establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adept at leading and motivating workers in necessary struggles.
  • Dedication to workers' rights and social justice.
  • Skilled at managing and meeting many and varying deadlines.
  • Effective informal and formal negotiating skills.
  • Effective demonstrable oral, written and listening skills in English; bilingual skills highly desirable.
