About the Role

The Associate Director of Artificial Intelligence - Legal Innovation is an integral part of Lathams GSO Technology team.This role will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the firms Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy, with a focus on legal product and support, legal training, client offerings, and AI application management. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring ethical considerations and responsible data governance principles are integrated into all AI-related endeavors, coordinating with others in the Technology and Information Services Department, including the cybersecurity and AI governance teams, to ensure the secure handling and storage of sensitive data, and complying with data protection regulations and client expectations
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Innovation Attorneys and AI Application teams, providing strategic direction and fostering their professional development, cultivating a culture of innovation, and encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and learning within the team and across the firm

Salary Range: $147,823 - $191,338/year – plus State of Connecticut benefits.

New employees begin at the minimum. The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Los Angeles Superior Court is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Legal Services to lead and oversee the Legal Services Office. This pivotal role involves directing legal research and support services for judicial officers across all areas of litigation. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer/General Counsel, you will be responsible for developing and implementing programs, systems, and processes that support the hiring, onboarding, and training of approximately 200 research attorneys, probate attorneys, and law clerks. Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and manage programs for the administration of legal support and research services for judicial officers.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive orientation and legal training for research attorneys and law clerks.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and retention of research attorneys and law clerks.
  • Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of assigned services and resources provided by the Legal Services Office.
  • Serve as an internal consultant and advisor to Court management and judicial officers.
This is an at-will managerial position. The Trial Court Employment Protection and Governance Act (SB 2140) authorizes the Court to exclude managerial employees from the employment protection provisions of the Act subject to meet and confer.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements at the time of application:
  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • Eight (8) years of professional experience as an attorney practicing law, with at least three (3) years supervising subordinate attorneys.
  • Member of the California State Bar in good standing.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong knowledge of legal services administration, including planning, budgeting, and maintaining public records.
  • Expertise in civil, criminal, family law, probate, and administrative law.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences.

Annual Leave - Instead of traditional sick and vacation leave, employees earn 10 days of annual leave per year and may buy up to 20 additional days of annual leave.
