The Oklahoma Office of the Attorney General is currently seeking a full-time Legal Assistant for our Legal Counsel Unit.

Position Summary:

The Legal Counsel Unit provides legal advice and representation to state agencies, boards and commissions on a daily basis. This representation includes advising agencies concerning the lawful discharge of their duties and powers; representing agencies in administrative proceedings, employment proceedings and some civil and appellate litigation; prosecuting holders of professional licenses before Boards that grant said licenses.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess excellent communication and computer skills. Applicants must be detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills; excellent spelling and grammar skills; and be proficient with computer software applications such as Excel, Word, Microsoft Office Suite, QuattroPro, Outlook and Workday. Background in Lotus Notes is beneficial, but not required.

Job Description

Talascend is currently seeking a Legal Assistant for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan .

Overview

The role involves managing a caseload from initial acknowledgment through resolution, assisting in significant legal matters, and providing support to legal staff members and department leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate not in suit matters
  • Process claims through Siebel CRM system
  • Ability to manage caseload from initial acknowledgment through resolution
  • Apply knowledge and understanding of legal procedures including legal research
  • Evaluate complex history and data to develop recommendations and negotiate case resolution
  • Assist in significant legal matters such as trial preparation and business or commercial transactions
  • Draft legal documents in specialized areas of law
  • Assist in document collection, review and production
  • Search corporate databases for facts, vehicle and customer history information
  • Manage caseload, including attorney communications to meet critical legal and business timelines
  • Document case progression and critical steps in Siebel
  • Interact with corporate and outside counsel
  • Provide support to legal staff members and department leadership as required
  • Demonstrate a mastery of office skills and use of online office systems/tools
  • Make decisions within the scope of assigned authority
  • Provide overall backup support for others
  • Compile and analyze data
  • Prepare and edit correspondence
  • Analyze and process financial records
  • Assist with special projects as required
Qualifications
  • ABA paralegal certification
  • College degree
  • 2 years legal experience required
Requirements
  • Finance experience would be a plus
  • Corporate/large company experience would be a plus
  • Strong written/verbal communication
  • Negotiation experience required
  • MS Suite experience, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of legal procedures and substantive areas of law
  • Knowledge of computer systems and technology
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • High level of problem solving and analytical skills
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated level of creativity
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated individual judgment, initiative and resourcefulness
