Job Description - Control Operator-II
The Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Plant equipment under their control in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and Plant Manager. The Operator can at times work with a Maintenance Mechanic on duty, who if needed can help assist with starting and/or stopping plant machinery and equipment. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. Complies with company policies including those concerning safety and environmental.
Responsibilities
The Operator II takes work direction from the Main Operator IV on duty and/or Plant Lead, and reports to the Operations Manager.
The following lists typical duties for the Energy Center Operator’s scope of work.
- Monitor and control the operation of all plant machinery and equipment including boilers, chillers, generators, and cooling towers.
- Monitor and be responsible for the effect on plant operations of all activities occurring in the Plant and in the Distribution System
- Operate–start, run, monitor, adjust, and stop–Plant machinery and equipment in a safe manner.
- Operate following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), and assist in continual improvement.
- Monitor and record Plant operating parameters.
- Monitor customer consumption levels and demands via SCADA system.
- Perform tests of operating equipment as directed.
- Monitor water chemistry in the various plant water systems and adjust chemical feed systems as required.
- Be responsible for the Control Room’s appearance and housekeeping.
- Upgrade skills and knowledge of Plant systems, equipment, and components as directed or required.
- Have or work to obtain knowledge and/or skill sets held by Maintenance Mechanics
- Be willing to work overtime either scheduled or on short notice.
- Knowledge of pneumatic and electric controls desired
- Additional Duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
The operator will normally work within the control room setting in a thermal plant. Expectations to be able to work within a normal plant environment with stairs and ladders to access difficult spaces. Includes working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures, low light, and high humidity areas within the plant. The operator will work 8-hour shifts normally but can be assigned 12-hour shifts as scheduled by the Operations Supervisor to keep the plant manned as needed and to meet the city of Omaha boiler operating codes. To meet city codes an operator may be required to work overtime on short notice.
Requirements
- High school education
- Mechanical aptitude and skill set required.
- Basic skills to learn complex systems and work under direction, but also to react to emergencies using judgment and intuitive skills.
- Familiar with personal computer operations and any digital equipment controls
- Sufficient physical attributes to be able to work in hot and cold locations, the ability to work on ladders, to lift up to 75 lbs., and to work standing for consecutive hours.
- Valid driver’s license
- Good lab technique for performing water tests.
- Experience desired with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) systems.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the field is preferred.
- Previous experience operating high-pressure boilers, large electrical-driven chillers, large cooling towers, operating steam turbines, steam-driven pumps, dual-drive steam, and electric drive fans preferred.
- Experience in chemical treatment systems including pot feeders, chemical pumps, softeners, reverse osmosis units, demineralizes, and polishers desired.
- City of Omaha 3rd Grade Stationary Engineer licenses are a most, several years of experience is preferred.

Maintenance Technician - Level II Day position is a key position in our rock crushing processing plant; includes monitoring, maintaining, and repairing the crushers, conveyors, and sizing screens.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Walk the site, observing crushers and conveyors for proper function
- Perform clean up using manual means along with operating skid steer
- Grease bearings
- Assist fellow crews members with plant mode changes
- Grease bearings; replace guards; change/align drive belts, sheaves and gear boxes; replace rollers and bearings; change conveyor belts; replace skirting; change wear liners/hammers; adjust crushers
- Ability to stick weld, mig weld and cut metals proficiently
- Take lead of existing maintenance repair crew to complete required daily duties
- Prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Identify issues and discuss with lead to determine repairs that are needed
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Two years' experience with repairs typically found at a rock or sand mining operation
- Experienced with operating/maintaining heavy equipment
- Well-rounded maintenance background
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform rigorous physical activities in all weather conditions
- Self-motivated with a solid work ethic
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
- This job requires shift work, callouts, scheduled and unscheduled overtime, weekend and holiday work. Employee may have work schedule adjusted on short notice.
