Position Overview

Duties and Responsibilities
The individual in this position is expected to engage in the following work-related activities.
  • Connect customers with library products, services, materials and events. Answer and resolve questions about services and accounts, and provide information, directions, referrals, and routine reference and readers' advisory.
  • Assist with service delivery of routine library functions on location and offsite, including assignment to locations or programs that focus on services to specific audiences.
  • Use automated library systems to fulfill requests from customers. Check materials in/out, retrieve, sort and transfer materials to other libraries.
  • Assess, collect, calculate, record, and reconcile fines and fees following standard library protocols and procedures.
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks such as: maintain supplies and inventory; prepare outgoing mail and packages; process and distribute mail and other deliveries; and facilitate bookings of public meeting rooms.
  • Provide technical direction to support the work of volunteers.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of programs, events and activities under the direction of a Library Assistant II or Librarian.

Job Purpose:

Law Library Circulation Desk Assistants are essential members of the Circulation and Resource Sharing team. Our student staff help to create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere by greeting everyone who enters the Law Library and by providing helpful friendly service to every patron who approaches the desk.

Duties And Responsibilities:

The Law Library Circulation Desk Assistant is responsible for opening and closing the Law Library, assisting with the operations of the Circulation Desk and maintaining the integrity of the Law Library collection.

Specific duties include:

  • Opening and closing the Law Library

  • Greeting visitors as they enter and exit the library

  • Checking materials in and out

Library Assistant- Circulation

The Tigard's Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time Library Assistant (20 hours per week) position in the Circulation division. The Tigard Public Library is a thriving, forward-thinking workplace that fosters lifelong learning and provides an array of programs and services to encourage the development of well-rounded citizens. An ideal candidate for this position has a passion for working with the public, is a skilled communicator, thoughtful, attentive to detail, and is seeking a fast paced and active working environment. Examples of Duties:

  • Provides library focused customer service to patrons in-person and over the phone.
  • Serves at the circulation desk; checks library materials in and out; issues library cards; Assists patrons with self-check machines.
  • Physically retrieves and puts away (shelving) library materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma AND
  • One (1) year of experience in library services.

Supplemental Information:

Union Representation: SEIU Schedule: The schedule is to be determined, however, one evening and one weekend day each week will likely be required. This is a 20 hour per week position.
