The 8th floor Med/Surg specializes in caring for a variety of both medical and surgical patients. We provide inpatient care to patients with multiple diagnoses including sepsis, diabetes, electrolyte imbalances, gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiac-tele monitored, infectious, kidney, and liver diseases.  We also offer surgical care for pre/ post orthopedic surgeries, general surgeries such as bowel resections/ ostomies, pre/post laparoscopic procedure, bladder surgeries, and plastics.  Caregivers utilize the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.

As a Registered Nurse (RN) at St. Mary's Regional Hospital, you will be an essential part of our Neuro Trauma Med-Surg unit which features:

• 32 beds, including 12 that can function as ICU step-down beds.

• We are proud to be a Comprehensive Stroke Center, the only one within a 240-mile radius

• We providing specialized care for a diverse range of conditions including strokes, head injuries, spinal cord injuries, post-operative spine surgeries, altered mental status, dementia, and general medical/surgical patients.

Job Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Medical-Surgical unit, managing a wide range of medical conditions and post-operative care. Monitor and assess patient vital signs, symptoms, and overall condition, documenting findings accurately and promptly. Administer medications, IV therapies, and other treatments as prescribed by physicians, ensuring proper dosages and adherence to protocols. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for each patient. Educate patients and their families about medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care, ensuring understanding and compliance. Respond to medical emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions to stabilize patients and prevent complications. Maintain a clean and organized environment, adhering to infection control policies and procedures to ensure patient safety. Assist with the preparation of patients for surgeries, procedures, or diagnostic tests, providing emotional support and information as needed. Perform routine administrative tasks such as updating patient records, scheduling follow-up appointments, and coordinating care with other departments. Job Requirements: Strong understanding of medical-surgical nursing practices, including patient care, medication administration, and emergency response. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and hospital information systems for accurate documentation and data management. Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and transferring patients, moving medical equipment, and standing for long periods. Active (STATE) Registered Nurse (RN) License in good standing. A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Med Surg Nurse or in a similar role. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
