We are currently looking for talented candidates for the role of Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant is responsible for administrative as well as clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams, and performing front-desk tasks. Essential Functions

- Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Obtains short history and vital signs as required by patient's chief complaint. Obtains or updates patient medication list. - Transcribes during visit and assures documentation of patient care to meet criteria dictated by legal practice, state health laws, and Medicare regulations.
- Assists physician with biopsies and surgical procedures.
- Educates patient as required after physician establishes the treatment plan. Ensures that the patient understands the treatment plan, understands the proper use of their medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.

- Complete clerical functions as directed such as: prior authorizations, schedule new and follow up appointments, answer phones, scanning documents into the EMR.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This full-time position will work 4 days a week between Monday and Friday from 7:00am to 5:30pm. No holidays, evenings or weekends are required.

**Responsibilities:**
+ Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Accompany patients to exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
+ Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
+ Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
+ Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
+ Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
+ Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
+ Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.
+ Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.

+ Uses a motivational interviewing approach to coach patients toward self-management, self-efficacy, and activation. Engages the patients to assess current state, collaboratively set goals, and review the after-visit summary. QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Medical Assistant Certification or Licensed LPN.
+ Completion of an accredited course of study in medical assisting or two years of relevant experience.

The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible.
