Principal Responsibilities And Tasks: • Independent Testing: Perform waived, moderate, and high complexity testing using both manual and automated processes. • Regulatory Compliance: Comply with and participate in all regulatory agency guidelines (e.g., CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA) and address concerns as needed. • Problem Resolution: Independently identify and resolve analytical problems, troubleshoot equipment issues, and take corrective action regarding testing procedures, patient results, and specimen integrity, seeking guidance when necessary. • Troubleshooting & Documentation: Independently troubleshoot and resolve issues, documenting corrective actions. • Quality Control: Independently review and record quality control data, determining the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying QA/QC principles daily. • Customer Service: Respond to clinical and customer concerns, independently resolving issues confidentially with integrity and discretion. • Training & Education: Attend and/or lead mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to the department. • Procedure Development: Assist with the development and modification of procedures and assume additional responsibilities as appropriate. • Other Duties: Perform duties as assigned related to the job description. Qualifications: • Education and Experience: • Required: A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or related sciences, OR an Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field, OR completion of a Military Laboratory Technician program with experience. • Experience: 0-1 years (with Bachelor’s degree) preferred; a minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience is required for those with an Associate’s degree in MLT/related science or military training. • Certification: ASCP or equivalent is preferred. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic (waived, moderate and highly complex) testing on blood and other biological specimens. Ensures accurate processing of samples, actual performance of tests and reporting of results.
• Calibrates, conducts performance checks, and maintains a variety of clinical laboratory instruments and equipment; recognizes and corrects basic instrument malfunctions.
• Prepares reagents or media from a prescribed procedure or from the literature.
• Conducts and documents established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, medias and products; evaluates results of quality control and implements corrective action when indicated.
• Orients and supervises students and new or less skilled laboratory personnel to include presentation and discussion of the scientific principles, as needed.
• Monitors quality improvement process through evaluation of quality control and participates in gathering of information on current QI indicators.
• Develops new programs and monitors effectiveness of change, as a member of a multi-functional team
• Actively participates in the Laboratory's continuing education program and meets requirement as described in the Laboratory Continuing Education Policy. Shares knowledge gained from seminars, workshops, etc. through formal and informal presentations.

The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following:

• Following the laboratory's procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing, as well as test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of test results; Following the laboratory's quality control policies;
• Documenting all quality controls activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance;
• Identifying indicators that may impact test performance or reporting of test results and either making corrections or notifying Lab Supervisor;
• Ordering, receiving, and distributing laboratory stock as needed in laboratory and treatment area;
• Understanding all checklists and being able to perform all duties on the checklists associated with the position;
• Adhering to safety policies as defined by Patient First and OSHA;
• Providing positive, warm and friendly customer service in all interactions;
• Fostering teamwork and a positive, professional atmosphere;
• Completing other duties as directed.

Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Employee must be at least 18 years of age;
• High school graduate or equivalent;
• Keyboarding experience required;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• One year of clerical experience preferred;
• One year of clinical experience preferred;
• Minimum 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college, including chemistry, biology, and medical laboratory techniques, or an Associate degree in chemistry, biology or related science. Completion of clinical rotations in the areas of microbiology, urinalysis, chemistry and hematology; or Fifty week military Medical Laboratory Procedures course and meet qualifications for military enlisted occupational specialty of "Medical Laboratory Specialist";
• Registered Medical Technologists (M.T.) or Medical Laboratory Technicians (M.L.T.) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other recognized certification agency of medical laboratory professionals preferred;
• Registry-eligible technologists are encouraged to apply.

Salary Range: $31.50 - $35.50, depending on experience.
