**The Medical Biller** is responsible for submitting medical claims to government and private payers. + Researches and corrects rejected claims for resubmission

Distributes claims into electronic and paper billing queues and transmits patient statements for mailing. Primarily responsible for well-established sites that function as part of a normal workflow.
**Specific duties include, but are not limited to:**
+ Submits medical claims to payers via electronic data interchange (EDI,) paper claims via mail, and enters claims through payer portals. Prepares and transmits patient statements for mailing.
+ Ensures that all necessary information (Insurance plan, CPT code, procedure modifiers, ICD10 codes, etc.) has been entered into the billing system correctly and all necessary compliance paperwork is received for claims submission.
+ Researches and corrects rejected claims for resubmission
+ Reconciles claims submitted with claims accepted by the clearinghouse
+ Other duties as required including, but not limited to, obtaining paperwork necessary for audits, printing explanation of benefits (EOB) for secondary claims submission, etc.
**Position Requirements:**
+ High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience
+ 1-2 years prior medical billing experience required.
+ Proven experience in using multiple computer screens and applications simultaneously to navigate, type, and access information.
+ Strong multi-tasking abilities
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills
+ Team player with ability to communicate at all levels in the organization and with different types of customers

**EXPERIENCE:**
One year of Medical Assisting or other direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
C **ERTIFICATION/LICENSE:**
· Medical Assistant Certification NCRMA certification/ABR-- required. Acceptable certifications are RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or OE credentials is acceptable **OR**
· Medical Assistants who recently graduated (within the last 12 months) from a Medical Assisting training program must obtain Medical Assistant certification within 60 days of employment. **OR**
· Candidates/incumbents with one year of Medical Assistant work experience who do not possess Medical Assistant Certification must obtain Medical Assistant Certification within one year of hire date.

**JOB SUMMARY**
The Medical Assistant, under the direction of a physician, performs various patient care services to include some delegated medical procedures. This position performs a wide variety of patient care activities including, but not limited to, maintenance of clinical record and documentation, administering medications, giving injections, and taking vital signs.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE**
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.
Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. Cleans rooms after procedures, cleans and disinfects equipment, restocks supplies.
Assists and accompanies patients from waiting room and prepares patients for examination.
Interviews patients and records or inputs information to patients' medical record. Collects all medical data in order to facilitate the physician's ability to draw conclusions about the patient's needs. Ensure all charts and forms for the office visit are ready for the provider.
Measures, collects and records patient's vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and prepares patients for examinations and tests, procedures and x-rays.
Performs routine patient testing, acquires and processes electrocardiograms, and collects and processes blood specimens and urine samples.
Prepares and administers routine oral, rectal, medications, injections and vaccinations excluding controlled substances, as directed by Physician. Identifies and reports adverse reactions.
**KEY SUCCESS FACTORS**
Ability to accurately document patient information in accordance with organizational policies, regulations and procedures. Familiarity with HIPPA regulations.
Ability to make observations of the general physical condition of the patient and notifies the nurse/healthcare provider of abnormalities.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Excellent bedside manner and ability to make patients feel at ease. Appears friendly, reassuring and approachable to patients.
Ability to take instruction from a doctor.
Familiarity with medical charts and records.
High attention to detail.
