Our Henderson mine and mill are an hour drive apart - separated by the Continental Divide and a 15-mile conveyor system (10 miles underground). The Henderson mine is an underground molybdenum mining operation located approximately 42 miles west of Denver and 10 miles west of Empire. It has been in operation since 1976 and today consists of a large block-cave, underground mining complex feeding a concentrator with a current capacity of approximately 32,000 metric tons per day. It can produce approximately 15 million pounds of molybdenum per year. The Henderson mill is located 15 miles west of the mine, between Dillon and Kremmling.
Both sites are surrounded by US Forest Service land of the Arapaho National Forest, making it easy for our employees and their families to enjoy year-round hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the area. What You Will Do
* Under general supervision, supervises, coordinates and controls the safe and efficient operation of an assigned work unit.
* Assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff for assigned work unit.
* Implement production plans according to approved schedule.
* May participate in the full range of daily operational duties, performing the most difficult.
* Inspects and evaluates work in progress, identifies any problem areas, and may direct remedial action.
* Conducts performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
* Prepares estimates of the staffing, materials, and equipment requirements for projected work activities.
* Maintains an inventory of parts and materials. Approves purchases of materials and equipment; maintains time, materials and equipment use reports. Requisitions tools, supplies, materials and equipment.
* Trains staff in safety procedures. Maintains safety data sheets for crews.
* Performs other duties as required.
What You Bring To Freeport
* High School diploma or GED, and five years of related operational experience, including supervisory or lead experience, OR
* Bachelor's Degree in a technical mining related discipline with at least one summer internship experience (or equivalent) working in mining or industrial environment, including supervisory or lead experience.
* Additional certifications or licensure appropriate to the job may be required
* Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques
* Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects
* Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration
* Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
* Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Trainer - Mine Operations to support the operational excellence of our taconite mining operations in Nashwauk, Minnesota. This position plays a key role in training and developing operators on the safe, efficient, and effective use of our Komatsu equipment fleet, including haul trucks, loaders, dozers, shovels, and other surface mining machinery.
Job Responsibilities
The Trainer - Mine Operations will report to the Manager - Mine, and will be responsible for the following:
- Develop and deliver hands-on training for new and existing operators on our mine equipment fleet
- Develop, implement, and update training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Develop and conduct operator assessments and competency evaluations
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, mentoring, and consistent reinforcement of best practices
- Collaborate with maintenance, safety, and operations teams to ensure equipment readiness and minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate training records in compliance with MSHA and company policies
- Assist with onboarding of new employees and ensure compliance with initial and refresher MSHA training requirements
- Monitor equipment operation trends and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Support implementation of technology platforms such as Komatsu's autonomous systems
- Backfill equipment operator and supervisor roles as required to support operational continuity
- Work with equipment vendors and OEM's to ensure that the safest and latest equipment training protocols are being employed in our training programs for all equipment.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in open-pit mine operations, preferably in taconite or iron ore mining
- Demonstrated proficiency operating mine equipment (haul trucks, shovels, dozers, loaders, etc.)
- Previous experience in training or supervisory role preferred
- MSHA certification (Instructor Certification preferred, or ability to obtain)
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, risk management, and hazard identification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, training management systems)
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Additional technical training, certifications, or coursework in heavy equipment operation, mine safety, or industrial training is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- This position is a mixture of field work and office duties. Exposure to the elements (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc.) is to be expected. Office duties will require work in front of a laptop, desk, and phone.
Salary
- $85,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

The purpose of the role is to lead a Mine Operations team (Mine Operations, Mobile Maintenance, and Engineering) in the safe execution of its budgeted work plan and the quality implemented for the efficient operation of our mine.
Responsibilities
* Ensure all activities comply with Company policies, MSHA and OSHA regulations, environmental, labor and social laws.
* Drive and promote a zero-harm workplace culture.
* Lead safety initiatives and participate in the evaluation of site risks and preventative measures.
* Assist in the preparation of a long-term mining plan ensuring that mine sequencing, geotechnical design criteria, equipment usage, and processes are continuously improved for efficiency.
* Review of short-term mining plans to ensure alignment with site goals (weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
* Coordinate with the exploration team for the creation and optimization of long-term mine plans.
* Participate in Mine Project Development reviews.
* Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
* Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, focusing on skill development, performance reviews, and succession planning.
* Manage staffing needs and work closely with Human Resources to recruit and retain skilled employees.
* Monitor performance against the budget and provide corrective action plans where necessary to stay within operational and financial targets.
* Prepare annual, life of mine and project budgets.
* Develop and enforce maintenance schedules and standards, including preventative maintenance and repairs, to maximize equipment uptime and reduce unplanned downtime.
* Foster coordination of mine planning, mine operation, mine maintenance and processing to achieve site goals.
* Prepare and present operational reports, KPIs and performance analysis to senior management.
* Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders including contractors, vendors, regulatory bodies and community representatives.
* Collaborate with the Process, Projects, Environmental, Safety and Human Resources teams for delivery of strategic objectives.
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent field of study.
* Ten or more years of progressive supervisory and engineering experience in an active metals mining environment.
* Five or more years of experience in a senior leadership role.
* Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
* Financial and business acumen, including the ability to develop financial budgets.
* Proficiency with Microsoft products and mine planning software.
* Proven record in safety and environmental excellence.
* Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
