• Master's or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field.

We are seeking a Surface Mining Equipment Operator for our operations near Berry, Alabama. Mining positions may be required to work various shifts, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. About the Role: As a Surface Mining Equipment Operator, you will perform various tasks related to equipment operations. The Surface Mining Equipment Operator will work closely with supervisors and other team members to maintain a safe work environment while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Push material with a bulldozer on steep slope stockpiles to manage stockpile size and push to feeders (ROM, Clean Coal, Train, and Barge Loadout Areas).
• Move and/or load material on stockpiles, trucks, and feeder hoppers (ROM, Clean Coal, Train, and Barge Loadout Areas).
• Bulldozers (D11 and smaller)
• Frontend Loaders (WA600, WA500)
• Load and unload materials on or from delivery trucks with a skid steer or telehandler forklift.
• Operate either rigid frame or articulating dump trucks.
• Set up, start, and maintain portable pumps, air compressors, generators, and light plants.
• Run water trucks and keep dust in compliance on roadways and yards.
• Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of prep plant machinery.
• Follow all safety and environmental regulations to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Other duties that may be assigned by supervisor.

Who You Are:

Physical Requirements:

- Must be able to stand for long periods on uneven, rocky surfaces.

- Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.

- Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.

- Will need to walk through different area of the work area with different amounts of clearance and headroom.

- Walking ability will be based on the SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.

- Must be able to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.

- Must be able to bend or stoop for a full work period due to varying work heights.

- Must be able to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.

- Must be able to do repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle) and have quick reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand-to-eye coordination.

- Must be able to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.

- Must be able to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area.

• Lead the development and execution of comprehensive mine plans, including short-term and long-term scheduling for surface mining operations.
• Optimize mine designs, pit shells, and production sequences using advanced mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac).
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects and expansions.
• Implement and monitor best practices in mine engineering, including slope stability analysis, drill and blast design, and equipment selection.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Analyze production data to identify opportunities for operational improvement and cost reduction.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and operational teams.
• Collaborate with geologists, metallurgists, and other stakeholders to maximize resource value.
• Develop and manage project budgets related to mine planning and development.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies in the mining industry.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in surface mining engineering and operations.
• Extensive experience with mine planning software and geological modeling tools.
• Proven ability to manage complex mining projects from conception through to execution.
• Strong understanding of mine economics, risk assessment, and feasibility studies.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
• Professional Engineer (PE) designation is highly desirable.
• Ability to work effectively and autonomously in a remote setting.
• Experience with large-scale open-pit mining operations.
