At Exact Sciences, we’re helping change how the world prevents, detects and guides treatment for cancer. We give patients and clinicians the clarity needed to make confident decisions when they matter most. Join our team to find a purpose-driven career, an inclusive culture, and robust benefits to support your life while you’re working to help others.
Position Overview
Exact Science’s Customer Experience (CX) team is responsible for defining, driving, and delivering innovative, immersive, memorable customer-centric journeys for all our customers, across all channels (digital and physical). These journeys are grouped by Customer Types (e.g., Patient, Provider) and further categorized into a set of Experiences (e.g., Understand Risks & Complete Screening, Confirm Diagnosis). Each Experience has a set of specific, measurable Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) that the overall team is accountable to fulfill.
The Lead, UX Designer is responsible for helping to drive and facilitate the realization of the UX strategy and vision for multiple journeys within a given Experience. Your focus lies in shaping innovative design solutions, rooted in a deep understanding of the industry landscape, business and enabling technologies, as well as a profound, and an empathetic immersion into consumer mindsets, needs, and expectations.
Collaborating with diverse teams, including Designers, Copywriters, Content Strategists, Product partners, and Development partners, you’ll lead efforts in digital, marketing, and product design, emphasizing interaction design, visual design, design technology, and product management. Your role extends from defining interactions at various scales to overseeing the development of large, complex services and systems across owned, social, and partner digital platforms.
You excel in balancing the macro and micro aspects of design—driving a vision while remaining hands-on with the details. Your approach involves continuous analysis, iteration, solutioning, and delivery, maintaining a focus on the user at the center of everything you create.
As the lead, your responsibility includes bringing people together and accounting for a holistic Service Design that covers all touchpoints in a customer's journey, whether physical or digital. Your role involves navigating complex business, functional, and user challenges to drive the development of innovative experiences aligned with overall business and user objectives. Your expertise extends to delivering intricate design systems and frameworks, providing easily understood, scalable solutions that inspire and empower junior designers to excel.
You should be able to share examples of work that highlights your approach to design. This should demonstrate how you bring strategies to life in the creation of user-centered products and services experiences across various channels. Additionally, you should be able to provide instances where your work effectively communicated complex ideas and terminology through simple, engaging content experiences, ultimately driving positive business results.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead and facilitate active collaboration with strategists, researchers, product leaders, the Design Ops team, legal, regulatory, medical, labs, and the respective Experience Design team members to produce deliverables (e.g., wireframes, visual systems, interaction models, design specs, etc.) for multiple Journeys (e.g. 3+) in a given experience that are integrated, cross-touchpoint, cross-customer type, and cross-experience/journey.
- Advocate for the incorporation of user research into the experience's UX vision, provide strategic rigor and thoughtfulness throughout the creation of products and experiences, from vision and conception to launch and optimization/governance - possess the knowledge and passion to articulate it clearly, confidently, concisely, and compellingly across audiences.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert in all things design and help lead both partners and peers alike to help think how design drives utility and inspires, equally.
- Remove impediments and ensure delivery of the overall experience vision & OKRs. Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with senior leadership and other departments (e.g., Marketing) will also be required.
- Research and stay up-to-date to help lead the adaption of the enterprise wide UX best practices, standards, principles, and design thinking processes for use by the respective UX, Product, and Development teams; serve as an advocate for these standards, principles, processes.
- Create systems and strategies that help designers thrive. Lead the use of design thinking, storytelling, and conceptual prototypes to compellingly convey the vision, flow, and features of the products/services being designed.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support for more junior content staff. Execute and help guide teams to create outstanding, cohesive, and connected experiences across projects and platforms. Help develop comprehensive experiences by applying strategic design-thinking methodologies by providing a clear point-of-view, approach, and framework that guides effective design and implementation.
- Maintain morale and support employee engagement initiatives.
- Consistent demonstration of exceptional leadership qualities, including but not limited to the ability to attract and retain the best team, foster a culture of high performance, lead with integrity, humility, accountability, and courage, and set a clear vision to energize teams towards the future.
