Purpose:

Stewards Individual Placements is an AmeriCorps Program which provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and protect our natural and cultural resources. Stones River National Battlefield conserves, protects, and promotes understanding of the significant sites and historic events associated with the Civil War Battle of Stones River. The Stones River National Battlefield Visitor Services and Cultural Resource Management team is directly responsible for meeting the National Park Service's mission by protecting the park's historic areas, structures and objects while creating opportunities for visitors of all ages to engage in meaningful experiences through interpretation, recreation and volunteerism.

The Community Engagement AmeriCorps position will serve as a member of the park's Visitor Services and Cultural Resource Management team. The AmeriCorps member will assist park staff in providing a range of services designed to foster meaningful connections to Stones River National Battlefield and its rich history that spans beyond the three-day Civil War battle that raged on site nearly 163 years ago. During the course of the internship, the member will serve alongside experienced National Park Service employees supporting every facet of park operations such as leading informal interpretive activities in the park, delivering existing education programs to youth, and developing new programs for various audiences.

Description of Duties:

As an AmeriCorps Member serving with the Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro, TN, your responsibilities will include:
  • Provide effective orientation and interpretive services to the public.
  • Assist in developing and presenting curriculum-based field trip programs and youth-focused interpretive activities for the general public.
  • Plan and lead volunteer projects for groups of up to 25 people.
  • Perform roves focused on offering effective informal interpretation while ensuring public safety and conservation of resources.
  • Prepare and present interpretive programs including talks, walks, and tours.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and presentation of curriculum-based programs, interpretive events, and volunteer projects engaging local youth.
  • Develop social media and web-based interpretive content.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation, and implementation of special events.
  • Support cultural resource management by assisting in management of the park's museum and library collections under the direction of a Museum Technician.
  • Assist with condition monitoring, accessioning, cataloging, minor conservation treatments, research, and transcribing primary source documents.
  • Other service projects may include cultural area management, historic structure conservation, and trail maintenance.
Qualifications:
  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
  • Between the ages of 18 - 30, or up to age 35 with Veteran status.
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award.
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.

Time Requirements:
  • Typically, this position is expected to serve 40 hours a week including weekends, but exact service schedules may vary. A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service

Orientation and Training:
  • The member will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.
  • The member will participate in a self-guided interpretation course through Indiana University, facilitated onsite training including Job Hazard Analysis, and mentored position training and project planning prior to performing all assigned tasks.
  • The member will serve under the direct supervision of the Visitor Services and Cultural Resources Manager. Additional park employees will provide training and leadership when the member is supporting other divisions. The member will have the opportunity to develop skills and experience equivalent to or greater than most GS-05/WG-05 positions within the park team.
  • The member may also have the opportunity to complete NPS Volunteer Program Management Training, Making a Difference Through Interpretation Training, and service-based learning experiences at local partner sites and/or nearby National Park Service units.

Key Responsibilities:

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park protects 250 acres of the approximately 1,000 acres of the actual battlefield. Established in 1917, it is the country's first federally protected Revolutionary War battlefield. The purpose of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is to protect for historical and professional military study as well as the benefit, education, and inspiration of the public, the battlefield and the accounts of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse during the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution.

The Community and Youth Engagement Ambassador is an AmeriCorps Position which will serve as a member of the park's interpretation and education team. The AmeriCorps member will assist park staff in providing a range of services designed to foster meaningful connections to Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and its rich history. During the course of the internship, members will serve alongside experienced National Park Service employees supporting every facet of park operations such as leading informal interpretive activities in the park, delivering existing education programs to youth, and developing new programs for various audiences. Evaluation and Reporting:

As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.

Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.

**Job Description**
The Marina Services Worker is responsible for ensuring guest satisfaction at the marina location by navigating vessels, assisting guests with boat operations, appropriately maintaining the dock area(s), cleaning and restocking vessels, and providing general customer service.
**Job Responsibilities**
Cleans and maintains docks and public areas to ensure safety and satisfaction of guests and marina staff.
Ensure customers understand boating safety, operation of the vessel and aid with docking and piloting of boats
Cleans interior and exterior of vessels to ensure safety and satisfaction of guests
Restocks, refuels, maintains, and prepares vessels for guests
May assist customers with transporting luggage
Greet customers and assist with inquiries or concerns while anticipating the customers? needs
Provides excellent service and positive demeanor towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.

**Qualifications**
Previous experience working in a marina preferred
Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
Must possess valid driver?s license
Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
