• Delegates responsibility for appropriate nursing activities, skills, and/or procedures to nursing and direct care staff; and makes clinical rounds to assess individuals' nursing care needs and observe and evaluate the provision of nursing services.
• Acts as liaison to outside agencies and providers to ensure continuity of care and the necessary follow-up for individuals; advocates for individuals' needs; and may provide instruction to providers on individuals' discharge plans.
• May perform the full range of supervisory duties over Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff; provide information to Registered Nurse Supervisors; and prepare or contribute to the preparation of reports and performance evaluations for lower-level staff involved in nursing care activities.
• Conducts nursing assessments; and obtains, records, and updates individuals' health information and vital signs, using standard instruments and procedures.
• Prepares, implements, and modifies nursing care plans; prepares individuals for and/or assists with examinations and treatments; and administers medications and nursing procedures to individuals, as prescribed.
• Observes, monitors, and records individuals' symptoms, conditions, and care, including diet and physical activity; and identifies and reports individuals' responses to medication or changes in health status.
• Serves as the nursing representative on a treatment team; provides information on nursing needs; and consults and coordinates with treatment teams and other health care disciplines to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate individuals' care.
• Makes clinical rounds to assess individuals' nursing care needs and observe and participate in the provision of nursing services.
• Provides health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals, families, and other groups; and develops health improvement programs.
• Implements infection control protocols and procedures and provides related consultation and instruction to staff.

Summary of need:
To provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with the established systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care, which are compliant with the regulatory standards in a juvenile correctional setting.
Facility Overview:
Finger Lakes Residential Center (FLRC) is located seven miles north of the city of Ithaca. Youth served at Finger Lakes Residential Center are male, juvenile offenders. Depending upon the sentence, youth may remain in OCFS custody until the age of 21. FLRC is accredited by the American Correctional Association and has a current population of approximately 60 youth. Free parking is available on-site. The dress code is business casual or scrubs. Currently, there are no vaccine requirements. Supervision staff will be present when the employee is providing nursing care to youth.
Job duties:
Job duties include, but may not be limited to: maintaining general medical inventory (including controlled substances); conducting medication administration; reviewing the overall health conditions of youth (i.e. preparing, reviewing and evaluating nursing intervention plans); ensuring that interventions are consistent with comprehensive treatment plans; participating in staff trainings; preparing required clinical and administrative reports; maintain infection control standards; and, serve as a member of the facility's medical treatment team. Additional duties to be discussed in detail during the interview.
Qualifications:
Licensed and registered to practice nursing in New York State.
Hours: Overnights - Wednesday-Saturday 8pm-6am

Background Investigation Requirements:
1) All prospective employees will be investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information.
2) All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).
3) Prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.
All background requirement fees will be paid by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYS OCFS), therefore there will be no background check reimbursement for this position. Once NYS OCFS is made aware of the awarded vendors selected candidate, the vendor will be provided the necessary forms for the SCR and SEL checks. The vendor's selected candidate will then be contacted directly by NYS OCFS to schedule fingerprinting. After all results have been reviewed, the vendor will be provided with a start date for the selected candidate.
