KCBS is a 24/7 live and local news station. The part-time news writer schedule varies and is based in part on station needs plus planned and breaking news events. Potential shifts can include 5a-12p and/or 11a-7p.
**Responsibilities**
**What You'll Do:**
+ Create (from scratch) and update existing broadcast and wire copy to create compelling, interesting, informative and accurate broadcast-style scripts for news anchors to deliver via radio broadcast and digital stream
+ Write compelling teases (that don't give the story away!)
+ Incorporate sound bites, music, sound effects and other elements to enhance your news copy
+ Edit and produce newscasts (including but not limited to selecting, editing and/or writing news content)
+ Edit audio for broadcast and digital assets
+ Review, vet and critique KCBS content to ensure we are compliant with FCC regulations, Corporate and station policies
+ Manage the flow of news and information (including but not limited to receiving and researching news tips, calling on breaking stories, conducting off-air interviews with officials and newsmakers)
+ Monitor social media, wire services, websites and other news sources

**Responsibilities**
**What You'll Do:**
The hired individual will oversee the newsroom during the course of a daypart and will be responsible for creating rundowns, selecting sound to air during newscasts, writing and approving copy, and coordinating with the digital content team.
+ Writers work off an assigned lineup drawing information from resource copy, the audio file, and appropriate network sources. Since there is little opportunity for detailed review of copy before airing, writers must "get it right the first time" and be able to work effectively under pressure.
+ Editor: must review incoming news stories from a variety of sources and choose the stories of highest interest and most relevance to the WBBM Newsradio audience.
+ Assembles an hourly lineup of news for writers and anchors to prepare.
+ Assigns audio to newscasts.
