Job Description

Overview Abacus Technology is seeking a Payroll Administrator to perform all activities necessary to process several payrolls, including maintaining related records. This is a full-time position. Responsibilities Provide accurate preparation and processing of various payrolls for weekly and semi-monthly pay groups for over 600 employees through ADP Workforce Now. Ensure employees are paid in compliance with state laws, Federal regulations including SCA (Service Contract Act), and company policy. Establish/maintain employee records within the accounting system and ADP; ensure that employee changes such as address, rate, tax, garnishments, benefit deductions etc. are entered correctly and made on a timely basis. Resolve issues and answer payroll-related questions with all levels of the organization. Post changes in pay and tax status, and miscellaneous changes in the accounting system. Ensure accurate vacation/PTO/sick time accrual for all employees. Enforce established payroll related policies, procedures and regulations. Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws. Work closely with the HR team regarding payroll related items including benefit deductions, leave of absences and disability, onboarding of new employees, terminations of existing employees, and documentation retention. Support W-2 year-end processing. Qualifications 3+ years experience in payroll functions, as well as working knowledge of federal, state, and local labor legislation and tax regulations. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Experience with outsourced payroll vendor, ADP Workforce Now. Working knowledge of cost accounting. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel. Able to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion. Able to work in a changing environment and adapt easily; work flexibly, effectively and willingly as part of a team. Able to demonstrate strong organizational skills, interpersonal, time-management and analytical skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to comply with policies and procedures in order to minimize errors. Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision and is committed to consistently meeting deadlines. The projected compensation range for this position is $55,000-$75,000. There are multiple factors that can impact a final salary, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (if remote or different from the stated location for this position), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories. **Responsibilities**
As the Workday Solution Owner:
+ You will provide strategic guidance, planning and best practices to executive leaders to make investment decisions that align with the long-term vision of the organization.

Alpha Omega is seeking an highly experienced Payroll Specialist for managing and processing payroll for employees who work on government contracts. The Payroll Specialist must be able to use Unanet Project Portfolio Financials and UKG UltiPro proficiently. Given the specialized nature of government contracting and the regulatory requirements involved, attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Timekeeping and Attendance: Monitor and manage employee timekeeping records, and ensure hours worked, overtime, and leave taken is accurately reported by employees. Compute earned leave for eligible employees and maintain accurate balances at all times. Facilitate remittance of payroll taxes to federal, state and local authorities and employee deductions, withholdings and contributions to third-party administrators.

Compliance: Process timesheets and payroll in a manner that consistently complies with federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as regulations specific to government contracting.

Reporting: Summarize, analyze and report data related to employee earnings, payroll taxes, garnishments, levies, contributions, deductions, and withholdings. Generate standard and ad hoc reports of payroll and timekeeping information for internal use, to third-party benefits administrators, and as required by federal and state government agencies and regulators such as the U.S. Department of Labor or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Audit Support: Assisting with internal and external audits related to payroll, including audits by government agencies or third-party auditors.

Systems Management: Utilize Unanet Project Portfolio Financials and UKG payroll software to process payroll accurately and efficiently. Maintain timely awareness of current best practices and evolving trends as they relate to payroll systems.

Communication: Respond to inquiries regarding computed net pay, and guide employees to resources and or service portals offered by the company to support employee updates to deductions, contributions, withholdings, and direct deposit of net pay.

Continuous Improvement: Identifying areas for process improvement and implementing best practices to streamline payroll processes and enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Training and Development: Maintain understanding of domestic federal and state payroll laws and regulations through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
Continuing Education: Given the ever-changing nature of payroll laws, regulations, and technologies, ongoing professional development and continuing education are important for payroll specialists. Attending workshops, seminars, webinars, and staying updated on industry developments can enhance skills and knowledge in the field.
  • Experience/Skills:
    • At least 4 years proven experience as Payroll Administrator.

The primary focus of this role will be to work closely with staff and senior management to coordinate all supporting functions related to the payroll/AP process and corresponding provider software.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Payroll Specialist will process multiple different payrolls on independent schedules; semi-monthly (non-union) and weekly (union), and ad hoc as necessary
  • Enter New Hire's, Terminations, Salary changes and Benefits into Paycom in addition to submitting all changes for Union Employees to Union delegate via fax / e-mail
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll records by maintaining Paycom with updates in employee status changes, tax withholdings, child support, wage garnishments, tax levies, benefit deductions, vacation, holiday, etc.
  • Prepare, reconcile, and submit all reports for Local Union benefits on a monthly basis and remit payments in timely manner
  • Review timesheets for accuracy and timeliness
  • Review business-related expense accounts and reporting to ensure all payments are funding from proper sources and with correct authorization
  • Create and maintain reports in Paycom
  • Prepare and remit federal, state and local payroll tax reports in a timely fashion
  • Reconcile payroll and benefits journal entries as part of monthly close process
  • Manage employee paid time off accruals and usage
  • Communicate and align with Paycom and Accounting Team to ensure proper timing of all scheduled activities occur
  • Provide high level of internal customer service when resolving issues and answering payroll related questions of employees as applicable
  • Responsible for companywide messages and communications related to Payroll function and cycles

Job Requirements and Essential Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred, Associate's Degree required
  • 3-8 Years' experience in payroll, ideally in Government Contracting
  • Experience with CBA / DBA / SCA payroll is required
  • Paycom experience is required, Unanet experience is a plus
  • Must be fluent in Excel and Microsoft Office knowledge
  • Communicate effectively with all members of staff regarding payroll
  • Ability to adapt to changing environment and support of multiple business locations
