**About the Role**
Caterpillar's?Procurement team manages the purchasing of materials that go into more than 300 product lines, ranging from construction and mining equipment to diesel and natural gas engines and industrial turbines. We also purchase materials and services needed to operate our business such as office supplies, perishable tooling, IT hardware and software and more.
As a Procurement intern, you will have the opportunity to work on and provide leadership on many exciting projects such as developing and implementing global sourcing strategies, interfacing with product supply and category teams to deliver cost savings and gathering and analyzing data for supplier negotiations. Our professionals work closely with our internal customers around the world to ensure we meet their quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
**What You Will Do**
You'll join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar employees. The internship is a 40-hour-per-week assignment lasting 12 weeks. You can focus on building professional abilities in roles including (but not limited to):
+ **Category Buyer** : Responsible and accountable for directing the development, and/or communication and implementation of a site, regional, or worldwide sourcing strategy. Responsible for managing policies, agreements, source catalogs, and special purchasing programs, and supporting specific Product line(s) NPI programs.
+ **Facility Procurement Professional** : Manages supply network procurement related activities for a facility to deliver procurement excellence and integration between Procurement organization and the team supporting Facility / Divisional Leaders.
+ **Supplier Development Engineer** : Responsible for collaboration and advisement for assigned supply base to provide technical expertise and leadership in the execution of a robust quality plan within the supplier network.
+ **Procurement Professional:** Analyzes and maintains assigned processes that produce output excellence, builds expertise for the assigned process area, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. Leads project management of process improvement, process development, and process execution for Procurement team.

**Internship Program Qualifications:**
+ Must be enrolled in a full-time at a 4-year accredited university/college in one of the following fields of study: Business, Industrial/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, or Supply Chain Management at the time of application and throughout the program.
+ Must have 30 completed semester hours before the start of the internship.If a transfer student must have 12 semester hours completed at a 4-year university
+ Minimum 2.8/4.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (no rounding) at current institution
+ Must be able to relocate to Peoria, IL area or indicated work location for the duration of the internship and complete daily work commute using reliable transportation.

Develop and leads the direction of daily activities for the division's materials, planning, and supplier management with heavy focus on people, organization, process, risk management and information technology. This includes the S&OP Process to support adequate inventories of our branches, light manufacturing and assembly, project management, maximizing margin, and ensuring timely logistical processing of product. Responsible for embracing and driving lean & best practices throughout the division supply chain.
Scope/Supervision and Interaction:
Position will Report directly to the VP of the Corrosion Resistant Group with additional accountability to the group's four brand leaders. Will manage the complete material control process including procurement, production/inventory control, and transportation logistics. Will interact with all levels of division management including Operations, Sales, Quality Control, Marketing and Finance. Will coordinate best practices with other division supply chain managers at the Flow Control Group. Key supplier management is essential to include ad hoc key Customer relationships. Eight direct reports will include regional procurement manager, analyst, & 6 buyers. Total Team of 13 to include regional logistics coordinators and fabrication planners.
Essential Functions:
- Manages the materials function within the division considering light manufacturing capacity, schedules workloads, recommends in house manufacturing vs. outsourcing, quality control and workforce balance.
- Establishes and maintains premier customer service with a customer centric mindset
- Leads all Supply Chain Management activities within the division. This will include establishing preferred supplier selection criteria based on supplier evaluations of price, quality, delivery, certifications, compliance with governmental procurement regulations and group programs.
- Will establish and implement standard/automated re-order procedures.
- Will develop crisis management and supplier backup contingency programs.
- Negotiate long term contracts in coordination with group staff and policies, while managing to the contracts and leveraging volume purchases and rebates.
- Responsible for continuous improvement programs with suppliers.
- Responsible for managing the division operational inventory to ensure adequate stocking levels for immediate production items and forecasting for future requirements. Will establish and implement standard/automated delivery procedures for just in time supplier stocking items.
- Responsible for facilitation and execution of the S&OP Process across the Division.
- Accountable for managing the division's overall strategic production planning practices taking into consideration short term/long term production requirements and integrating materials availability.
- Will establish and implement procedures for special order request, engineering changes and part substitutions, and sales market demand for products.
- Responsible for integrating the division with appropriate IT infrastructure and systems processes throughout the supply chain in coordination with IT Mgr.
- Manage the division's transportation logistics to ensure distribution of products direct to customers, or through distribution centers / warehouses are completed with optimum service at the most efficient cost.
- Represents the supply chain at the division level for the Corrosion Resistant Group
- Provides leadership by promoting team concepts, coaching, counseling, retaining, mentoring, training, talent management, and individual development. Drives a culture of accountability and results through strategy deployment, critical focus and effective key performance management.
Qualifications:
- 5-7 year's managerial experience in supply chain management
- Background in Industrial Fluid Control Solutions and Applications, plastic and steel piping, fittings, valves, instrumentation, tanks, & tubing catering to a diverse set of customers and industries to include water, sanitary, general industrial, life sciences, electronics, food processing, chemical, HVAC and Infrastructure
- 4-year college degree in business, engineering, or materials management required with certification in supply chain management preferred

Supports and manages all subcontracted and purchased material for the Armament Systems Business Unit. Coach and mentor others on their strategic activities. The Planning and Inventory Manager is responsible for facilitating, mentoring and coordinating successful planning and inventory projects. This includes ensuring that both the technical and people aspects are taken into account, incorporating change management strategies. Manage resources to effectively help execute the site/function strategy deployment plans.
**Detailed Description**
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
+ Drives team to manage material shortages to ensure Clear to Builds in collaboration with the Purchasing and SLM Team.
+ Supports the team being the liaison between customer project management and internal departments on the introduction of new product requirements.
+ Ensures the team performs a timely and accurate demand management process (If the demand is managed by the Planning Team at your Site).
+ Ensures proper Excess, Surplus and Obsolete inventory.
+ Ensures team identifies the impact of excess and obsolescence and drives necessary actions to mitigate it.
+ Ensures bills of material are accurate and collaborate with other teams on any engineering changes.
+ Collaborates with different stakeholders to achieve Inventory Entitlement targets and drive results.
+ Drives actions to meet the Inventory goals (Inventory cash adjusted and Turns), including performing accurate Inventory Projection.
+ Leads the team to maintain continuous Material Supply to achieve the targeted inventory levels and turns.
+ Ensures the team Performs material and capacity analysis before loading MPS. Monitor MPS accuracy, attainment and level load metrics and drive necessary actions to improve them.
+ Validates that the team Performs Financial Impact Analysis (FIA) to mitigate inventory risk before loading MPS.
+ Works with other departments to review and dispose of non-conforming materials.
+ Ensures production schedules to meet the customer requirements to achieve high levels of on time delivery.
+ Ensures proper POR including OAR management and timely execution.
+ Drives necessary actions to meet revenue goals.
+ Manages RMA orders. Works with other departments to meet repair commitments.
+ Monitors planning parameters ROP & SS to ensure optimized inventory levels.
+ Ensures proper execution of the SIOP Process (including accurate data, timely submission, and execution of Rhythm meetings with the key stakeholders) until approval completion on a monthly basis.
+ Maintains responsibility for SCM Team training completion, performance management, development, recognition, coaching and compensation of employees.
+ Reassigns personnel as necessary to optimize work. Act as a liaison with customers to ensure forecast commitments are met.
+ Collaborates with other departments to improve supplyflex programs.
+ Submits Investment Inventories for material that is not required for normal manufacturing operations or to support standard level of customer service.
+ Follow global procedures and policies and drive practices aligned to them.
+ Collaborates with Global and Segment teams to drive Inventory Management Operating System.
+ Manages KRIs, Planning Metrics and drives necessary actions.
+ Drives continuous improvements of SCM function through interactions with other departments.
+ Responsible for annual physical inventory, site surplus/excess sale process and disposition of scrap material.
+ Develops and executes site inventory management processes including forecasting, analysis, reporting, action plans.
+ Oversees design, development, integration and maintenance of SCM systems, tools, processes and training at the site.
+ Manages Celestica HUB process.
+ Drives continuous improvements of SCM function through interactions with other departments.
+ Responsible for annual physical inventory, site surplus/excess sale process and disposition of scrap material.
**Knowledge/Skills/Competencies**
+ Broad knowledge of an electronic manufacturing environment, materials and processes.
+ In-depth knowledge and understanding of global supply chain management, distribution methods, and global transportation services and inventory management.
+ Good understanding of IT concepts and integrated business applications
+ Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem resolution skills.
+ Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy and working under tight deadlines.
+ Ability to evaluate, prioritize and problem solve a variety of tasks to ensure their timely and accurate completion.
+ Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers. Strong presentation skills.
+ Ability to effectively lead, manage, assess, train and motivate a diverse group of employees.

+ Working knowledge (if pertains) to Free Trade Agreements, HS Tariff, Duty/VAT, ITAR regulations, Sanctions and Embargoes
**Physical Demands**
+ Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
+ Duties of this position require continuous light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motion, standing, sitting in a confined work space.
+ Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Salary Range: $102k-$159k Annually
